The Intel ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 is a good work laptop, with a better CPU and screen than last year’s. Before you spend the money, know its three flaws. It’s expensive, its CPU performance drops by about 36% on battery, and this unit has no keyboard backlight. The rest is mostly good news.
The unit reviewed here lists at around $2,300, though prices vary by market. It has an Intel Core Ultra 7 366H, Intel Graphics 4 Xe3, 32GB of RAM and a 2.8K 120Hz OLED display. Lenovo sells many other configurations.
Design and ports
It looks like a ThinkPad: minimalist, professional, made of durable materials. It’s also among the easiest thin-and-light business laptops to repair and upgrade, a trait it inherits from the previous generation.
The left side has two Thunderbolt 4 ports (Power Delivery and DisplayPort), an HDMI port and a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, plus a nanoSIM slot if you order mobile connectivity. The right side has RJ45 Ethernet, another USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone jack, a SmartCard reader and a Kensington Lock slot.

The screen
This is the best part of the laptop. It’s a 14-inch OLED at 2880 x 1800, 16:10, 120Hz. Brightness averages 512 cd/m² and peaks at 516, so don’t expect to use it outdoors, where the image washes out. Indoors, the deep blacks and contrast make movies look great.
It covers 99.9% of sRGB, 98.8% of Display P3 and 93% of AdobeRGB, enough for graphics work, and the matte coating cuts reflections. The 5.0 MP webcam has an IR sensor for Windows Hello and a physical shutter (ThinkShutter). The 2W stereo speakers sound clearer and more balanced than last generation’s.

Keyboard and touchpad
Keys have 1.5mm of travel and typing is smooth and accurate. The arrow keys sit lower and are smaller, but they’re still easy to hit. The red TrackPoint and its buttons respond well. The keyboard also comes out easily, so a spilled drink costs you a replacement keyboard and not the laptop.
The missing backlight is the real annoyance here, especially if you work at night.
The touchpad is smooth and a good size, with soft, quiet clicks. Three large physical buttons sit along its top edge.
Performance
The Core Ultra 7 366H (Panther Lake) is a clear step up for the CPU. These results come from Best Performance mode:
- Cinebench R15 multi-loop: a peak of nearly 2,958 points, averaging about 2,546 across consecutive runs.
- Blender: 192 seconds, faster than the Core Ultra 5 325 version.
- Geekbench 6.7: 16,270 multi-core, 2,819 single-core.
That’s near the top of the 14-inch business laptop class, but only on wall power. On battery, CPU performance drops by about 36%, and the Cinebench R23 score falls to 13,423.
The Xe3 graphics in Panther Lake are well ahead of earlier Intel iGPUs. Office work and heavier professional tasks are no problem. Esports titles like CS2 and League of Legends run at Full HD or 2.8K with high frame rates, and for heavy AAA games you’ll want 1080p and medium settings.
Battery and heat
The 60 Wh battery lasts about 8 hours of normal office work. A 75 Wh option exists, but you have to choose it on Lenovo’s website and pay extra.
In Best Performance mode (PL1 30W / PL2 65W) the surface stayed cool and the fan was quiet. While playing Cyberpunk 2077, the hottest spot on the underside reached 44.5°C, near the F7 key.
Should you buy it?
If you want a top office laptop and the price doesn’t scare you, yes. It runs everything from office tasks to heavy graphics work on integrated graphics, and it’s tough and easy to repair. If you do buy it, take the 75Wh battery too.
