As technology develops, smart products are increasingly personalized. That is also why Nuraphone from Australia was born, creating pairs of headphones that anyone can buy, but when used, can “transform” into the best product for each one.

Their latest product is the True Wireless Nuraphone NuraTrue headset, which brings audiometric technology to adjust its sound quality to everyone with a more compact design than previous Over-ear products.

NuraTrue’s box is quite small but has an eye-catching and modern design.

The back has a short introduction to the headset’s features, which we will learn about shortly.

Ear accessories include four pads, 1 set of ear flaps, and a USB Type-C charging cord.

Nuraphone’s general design philosophy is “unique but simple,” which is reflected in the charging case of NuraTrue. The box has the company’s logo imprinted but unique in black, without too many complicated decorations.

The USB Type-C charging port is located on the back of the box. The headset can play music for 6 hours, and when combined with this charging case, it will increase the total usage time to 24 hours.

Right from the opening of the box, you will be surprised by the very different shapes of this pair of headphones. Instead of having an oval, straight and long faceplate (with a tail like AirPods), NuraTrue is round. This design gives the advantage that the touch panel controls the headset very large; we never have to find it every time we use it.

The exterior design is different, but the back of the headset is still similar to other True Wireless pairs, so it feels quite comfortable to wear. It’s just that the headset will not be worn to sleep or used with full-face helmets; the outer part is slightly protruding.

The headset is equipped with IPX4 water resistance; although it is not too high, it also makes us feel more secure when taking it outdoors.

Although not advertised as much as the mainstream feature, this pair of headphones is also equipped with active noise cancellation. NuraTrue can also block outside noises at a good level, reducing the sound of car horns.

Currently, it is too difficult for other audio companies to catch up with Sony with the WF-1000XM4 series in terms of noise resistance when the Japanese audio company has done too well in this part already.

But there is one point that not Sony, not Apple, or any other company can do: the ability to measure audiometry to create music profiles for each person automatically. That is a technology Nuraphone has pursued since the company’s founding and has now been applied to a product small enough, “commercial” enough for anyone to enjoy.

Usage is also quite simple; first, you download the Nura application on the Apple or Android app store, then let the headset measure the shape of your ear cavity, your music preferences. After about 2-3 minutes, the application will create a music profile just for you; you almost do not have to do anything extra!

We have two control bars in this application, one to turn off the music profile that the headset has created for you. The other is “Immersion mode” – adjust the width of the soundstage, increase or decrease the bass, like a manual EQ form to control more existing profiles.

Is this feature effective or just made to “flash” users? In the application, we can turn off the profile or choose other people’s profiles using this pair of headphones. Every time I switch like that, I see that the sound quality changes completely, not the same! Proving that personalization is real, each person will have a completely new sound experience.

Therefore, the evaluation of the sound quality of NuraTrue will not be 100% accurate because each person will have a separate feeling after using the headset and creating a separate profile. So in this article, I will only describe the sound quality according to what I heard.

First, what happens when we turn off the sound quality adjustment feature so that the headset emits its “original” sound quality? The sound quality at this point will be quite dry, with low detail, and seems to be “clustered” in the middle of the head, so the soundstage is also very narrow. That is not the type of sound the company wants to bring to users, so anyone using NuraTrue will also need an audiometer to receive their profile.

When using the music profile created by the headset, NuraTrue completely transforms, creating a 180-degree reverse sound quality compared to the original sound quality. After using the profile for a bright sound, this pair of headphones makes the soundstage much more spacious, and everything feels like “forever” to become complete.

Bass will be the first thing you hear, but not because its volume overwhelms all other bands. Good bass can get down to low frequencies and is placed on a clean, slightly light background; it becomes even more prominent. I like this type of bass very much; we don’t need to have too much to stand out, still creating an exciting atmosphere for the song.

The mid-section is made moderately advanced, not completely surpassing the bass but not sinking to the back. This part is lightened, has good detail, and has a small drawback of lacking in thickness. Lady Gaga’s voice in Shallow would be better if it had more depth, a little more roughness, but some of you may like this expression better. NuraTrue is a headset born for EQ, so if you want a thicker mid, you can reduce the high-mid and increase the low-mid a bit.

NuraTrue’s slightly bright sound becomes an advantage when it comes to the high range. This band has very good brightness, showing the jingle in the music. With a good representation of both the bass and treble ranges, the NuraTrue leans slightly in the V-shape direction to make things more vibrant but still has a clean background that makes everything not stick together.

For me, this sound quality will be great for enjoying movies. With a spacious soundstage and bright mids to always hear clearly, NuraTrue can watch anything from action to comedy to drama. I have tried quite a few pairs of headphones, and a few pairs can show both music and movies, and this pair of NuraTrue!

But as mentioned, my experience may not be yours because the headset can change the sound quality depending on the person.

Do what others can’t do

That is not a cheap pair of True Wireless headphones. But we have to consider that it can do something that no other pair of TWS on the market can do: change the sound quality to suit the listener.

That is still a high-end product with integrated touch control, 24-hour battery life, IPX4 water resistance, and ANC active noise cancellation even without this feature.
