Design and quality of machining

The TS-1685 is twice as high as most other NAS devices due to the numerous drive bays. There are two rows of trays along the front: eight 3.5 “trays on the bottom and four 2.5″ trays and four 3.5” trays on top for a total of sixteen trays. The benchmark application load for the QNAP TS-1685 includes the MySQL OLTP performance over SysBench and Microsoft SQL Server OLTP performance with the TPC-C simulation load. Performance SQL Server

Each SQL Server VM is configured with two vDisks: a 100GB drive for startup and a 500GB drive for database and log files. From the point of view of system resources, we configured each virtual machine with 16 vCPUs, 64GB of DRAM memory, and used the SAS SCSI LSI Logic controller. This test uses SQL Server 2014 running on Windows Server 2012 R2 guest VMs, and is highlighted by the Benchmark Quest Factory for the database. In our SQL Server test, we looked at the performance of the QNAP TS-1685. Here, NAS has recorded 11,999.5 TPS with individual virtual machines from 2,923.8 TPS to 3,104.6 TPS in RAID10 configuration. In RAID 6, QNAP devices hit 11,199.2 TPS with a VM range of 2, 755.9 TPS over 2,853.6 TPS.

For Sysbench, we tested the QNAP TS-1685 using two virtual machines (8 and 4). With throughput, QNAP was able to reach 7281 TPS and 5208 TPS, respectively.

Looking at the average latency, the TS-1685 has 24.6ms with four virtual machines and 35.4ms with eight virtual machines.

In our largest delay benchmark scenario, the TS-1685 has an average latency of 169.4ms and 303.6ms.

Looking at peak read performance, the TS-1685 has impressive low latency in 4k read performance, measuring at 0.43ms from the start and under 1ms with 211,000 IOPS. Its highest latency is just over 13ms at 211,000 IOPS

Switching to VDI Linked Clone, boot tests show performance below 1ms up to near 51K IOPS. The TS-1685 peaked at 81,438 IOPS at a latency of 5.6ms.

In the Linked Clone VDI measured the initial log performance, the latency started was just under 1ms at 0.97ms and 3,200 IOPS. It has a speed of 32,649 IOPS with a latency of 7.66ms.

In the VDI Linked Clone Monday Login there is no millisecond delay when it starts at 1.31ms with an IOPS of 3,294. It has a speed of 32,352 IOPS with a latency of 15.6ms.

We found latency performance in milliseconds stronger in our 64k benchmarks, with NAS gaining 29K IOPS reads and 15.7K IOPS write before exceeding 1ms latency, with a corresponding bandwidth of 2.14GB / s and 986MB / s. We run three SQL load equal to 100% read, 90% read and 10% write, and 80% read and 20% write, with TSO-1685 hit 144K IOPS, 888K IOPS and 66K IOPS before touching 1ms latency. Running three similar tests with Oracle’s load, NAS reaches 45K IOPS, IOPS 103K, and IOPS 65K under 1ms latency. We also run the VDI Full Clone and VDI Linked Clone benchmarks for Startup Log, Initial Login and Login Monday. With Full Clone, the TS-1685 does not perform at exactly the right rate for several milliseconds of other tests, but still demonstrates robust performance for NAS with performance under milliseconds up to 57K IOPS and 4K IOPS on startup and first login. Similar link clone, no performance below milliseconds in Monday Sign but performance of 51K IOPS boot and 3200 initial IOPS log below 1ms latency.
