Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

I spent nearly ten minutes hunting for the setting that changes what the buttons do on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. It isn’t where you’d expect. The change itself takes a minute, so if you’re poking around this smartwatch looking for it, here’s where it lives.

Which buttons you can customize

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 lets you remap some of the physical buttons to open the features you use most, so you’re not swiping around the screen all day.

The watch has a Home button, a Back button and a Quick Button. Not every button can be reassigned, and the Quick Button is the one that matters here. It’s where I got the most out of this. One press opens the feature I want, and after a few days I stopped using the default route, which felt slow and clumsy by comparison.

How to set up the buttons

Find the settings menu

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 keeps the button options under Buttons and gestures in Settings. Open Settings, go to that menu and you can start changing things.

I assumed Samsung had buried this in the advanced features, which is where I wasted the time.

Assign the Quick Button to what you use

The Samsung watch can point the Quick Button at Workout, Flashlight, Samsung Wallet, Stopwatch or Voice Recorder. Whichever you pick, that’s one app you no longer have to go looking for.

Mine opens Workout, because I train every day. If you mostly use the watch to pay for things or to turn on the flashlight, put Samsung Wallet or Flashlight there instead.

Test it

Press the button a few times right after you save, so you know it does what you wanted. If it doesn’t feel right after a few days, change it again. I went through two setups before one stuck.

Tips

If you train a lot, put the Quick Button on starting a workout. One press and you’re going. If you pay with your smartwatch often, Samsung Wallet makes more sense, since it comes up almost instantly.

Flashlight is the one people forget about, and then they’re digging through a dark bag wishing they’d set it. It’s also worth checking your button settings after each One UI Watch update, because Samsung sometimes adds options or moves the menu.

I cut the closing question (“What have you got yours set to?”). It reads as a stock engagement prompt, and your last real point was already the Workout setup. If you like ending on a question, add it back. I kept your first-person lines (the ten minutes lost, the two setups, the dark bag), since they’re what makes it sound like a person wrote it.
