Sennheiser IE 100 PRO

At the time, Sennheiser launched the IE 40 PRO, an IEM in its low-cost segment. The headset has stormed international HiFi forums, both at home and abroad, thanks to its low price but the outstanding sound quality, good value for money.

After a period of absence, the company has launched a new product that promises to bring a better experience with the same price as the IE 40 PRO. Today we will do a quick review of it, the IE 100 Pro.

BOXING AND ACCESSORIES

The box is packaged and printed in the same minimalist style as previous Sennheiser products. The front has the company logo, product name, and ear illustration. The inside of the headset is neatly placed in a thick layer of foam.

The IE 100 Pro accessory is as simple as the IE 40 Pro. In the box will include: earbuds, 3.5mm (1.3m) cord, silicone tips with three sizes SML, pair of Foam size M tips, small leather bag, and ear cleaner, along with an instruction manual.

In particular, this time, the company launched another version with a Bluetooth module to expand the convenience. This product package will include an additional Type-C charging cord.

DESIGN

About design IE 100 PRO uses the same material and design as IE 40 PRO. But instead of just transparent white and black, IE 100 PRO will have an extra translucent red.

Using the same diameter MMCX connector as the IE400/IE500PRO makes it easier to change or upgrade the wire than the IE 40 PRO.

FEELING FEELING

The feeling of wearing the ear is very comfortable from the beginning, accompanied by a certainty, easy to wear, enough to wear for a long time without fatigue or earache. The earbuds are very solid, there is no creaking sound when squeezed, but if you are an important person, the plastic of the ear makes you feel that the ear is not as shiny as the products from the MOONDROP. In addition, the ear also has very good sound insulation, thanks to the optimal design of the ear canal.

SOUND QUALITY

IE 100 PRO uses a new generation dynamic driver of Sennheiser with a diameter of 10mm, for an impedance of 20Ω with a frequency response range of 20Hz-18kHz. The distortion of the ear is extremely low, located at < 0.1% (1Khz, 94dB), so it is very suitable for use as a monitor even though the sound has a slight v-shape. The ear has an energetic bass range, neat treble, but in general, the sound of the ear is still very balanced to some extent.

I use Hiby R5 Saber in combination with IE 100 Pro; below is my quick experience of the sound quality on this new version.

Bass: It can be said that the bass range follows a warm tendency, focusing on good volume in the mid-bass, long-range down to the sub. Although it still lacks depth, it is still enough to make the bass part stand out in some dynamic EDM tracks.

Mid: The middle part of the ear is richer and more expressive than the older IE 300, with a good body makes the instrument and the singer’s voice sound much more powerful. In addition, the high-mid has enough presence with good detail reproduction of the ear, so around 1kHz-5kHz, there is no harsh glare.

Treb: Treb is still the highlight of the ear after being tweaked and improved by the company after some “complaints” about the problem of excess treb in IE 40 Pro. The 6kHz-12kHz range is raised slightly more than the average, making the ears slightly light, with a slight emphasis. Space is well reproduced, and details are very clear in the high ranges. Not to mention the high-treb has a very good texture and smoothness without pulling the tail.

Stage space:

Sennheiser IE 100 PRO recreates the stage space quite like on IE 40 Pro. Not too wide but not too narrow, slightly improved on the width and depth of the mix. The position and sound of the instrument in space are shown very clearly and accurately.

CONCLUDE

Sennheiser IE 100 PRO has a decent dynamic level with plenty of energy, very good engineering, and detail. With a price range of $130, I think this is an extremely suitable choice for those who want to experience high-end sound from the studio, but it does not bring boredom and dryness like real monitor ears. Sennheiser IE 100 PRO can be considered an extremely worthy successor of IE 40 Pro – the very successful man before.
