After being released, the Crusher headphones created a ‘wave’ by showing that Skullcandy not only has a bold design and bold sound quality but also has the ability to integrate a series of the most modern features. Recently, Skullcandy has continued this success with the second version of this pair of headphones, continuing to upgrade in all aspects to bring users an even better product than before.

As a flagship product, Crusher ANC 2 is also packaged in a very prominent box with lemon yellow color.

The striking, youthful design continues on the side with the company’s logo reprinted many times to create a beautiful pattern.

Opening the box, the first thing we see is a hard headphone case covered in fabric. This year’s box is quite delicately decorated, with only a small skull image and the color matches the box quite well.

Accessories including charging cords and 3.5mm music cables can be neatly placed in this box and carried away.

The new version has a generally similar design to the first version, but there have been changes in finishing materials and button systems to look more modern. Parts made of plastic are covered with a layer of velvet to give a ‘smoother’ touch compared to the previous generation, but care must also be taken to clean to always look clean.

Instead of using leather on the head cushion like the previous generation, Crusher ANC 2 switched to fabric with diagonal black patterns that look like fish scales. Fabric may not look as ‘luxurious’ as leather, but it is more suitable for head cushioning and has better breathability than leather.

The right side of the headset has a system of 3 buttons to control music, volume and calls, and a lever to turn ANC active noise cancellation on and off.

Moving to the left side we have a USB Type-C charging port and a 3.5mm music port.

Along with that is the power button painted in a very prominent orange color, and the rotary wheel to adjust a feature that has made the name of Skullcandy Crusher products: vibration to the Bass beat. The company calls this the Sensory Bass feature, which allows the entire headset to vibrate every time there is bass to simulate the feeling of listening to music on high-powered speakers. This feature has been upgraded over time, and with Crusher ANC 2, it has been perfected when vibrating firmly, without the feeling of “vibrating” at all.

This feature is definitely born for those who like bass, it feels like the bass is too strong and makes the headphones vibrate! However, when used with gentle music and ballads, it is not very suitable. Fortunately, the headphones have a built-in loop so that they can be turned on and off and adjust the intensity flexibly according to the user’s taste.

On a single charge, Crusher ANC 2 can be used for 50 hours, a fairly high duration for a pair of headphones with many features, including ANC active noise cancellation.

To fully control the features of the headset, users need to download the Skullcandy iQ application. With this application, we can adjust the function of the buttons on the headset, use the Stay Aware feature (listen to the environment), adjust the sound with Equalizer or according to your own hearing with the Personal Sound feature (you will do a hearing test, then the application will give a suitable EQ), turn on and off the ability to connect to multiple devices, search using Tile.

A new feature that Skullcandy has also integrated into its new products such as Rail and Crusher ANC 2 is voice control. To use it, we will say “Hey Skullcandy” plus the command, for example, to turn on active noise cancellation, it will be “Hey Skullcandy, ANC on”. I have tried this feature and found it quite responsive.

Perhaps there is no need to evaluate, everyone already has an overview of the sound quality of this pair of headphones. Crusher ANC 2 still has a vibrant, rich and thick sound based on the first Crusher ANC version. This type of sound, as mentioned, will also be adjusted with the rotation on the ear, because Sensory Bass not only increases the vibration but also increases the intensity of the bass.

Even at low Sensory Bass levels, we can feel the power, even “majesticness” of the bass, when the drums and 808 bass of the Crusher ANC 2 are truly rich. In the song Time alone with you by Jacob Collier, the bass creates a clear vibration, creating a very ‘moody’ atmosphere for the singer’s voice to shine on.

To balance the bass, Skullcandy equips Crusher ANC with 2 V-shape sound types, which gradually increase the intensity in the high-mid and treble ranges. This is also understandable because having a slightly bright high range will not make the sound quality of the headphones too bass-oriented, which will create a heavy atmosphere, making your head tired and not being able to listen for a long time.

V-shape sound also has its disadvantages, when the singer’s voice will be slightly backward, and also has an ‘electronic’ feel so it is not too suitable for songs with a lot of vocals like jazz and ballads. But this is a pair of headphones from the Skullcandy brand, it is made to serve listening to rap and pop music, so the slightly ‘electronic’ and slightly autotuned singer’s voice becomes an advantage for the listener. Jex’s voice in the song Light It Up is a bit thin, but has a vibrant, ‘dancing’ quality on the rich bass background and the vibration of the headphones is really fun.

Worthy of the flagship title

After a very successful first generation Crusher ANC product, users certainly had high expectations for version 2. Through actual evaluation, it can be seen that these expectations have been met when Crusher ANC 2 continues to upgrade from the first version without a price increase, giving users a more comprehensive experience.
