Is there a pair of headphones on the market for those who play strong sports such as X-games, surfing, and off-road vehicles? This answer was answered when Skullcandy released their very special pair of Vert earphones.

The outer box of Vert is made in black like other products of the same company and is imprinted with a photo of a ski athlete, a mountain bike player, showing the target audience for the product.

Design

What makes Skullcandy Vert a pair of headsets for extreme sports enthusiasts, can’t just any pair of wireless headphones?
The answer lies in the design of this pair of headphones. Vert has a rather large circular control cluster, including a large button to control music, a dial around to adjust the volume, battery, and components Bluetooth connectivity. The microphone has been placed on the wire by the company to be closer to the user’s mouth!

This cluster incorporates a very large clip on the back so that the user can attach it to a shirt or helmet. This design makes the headset very firmly attached to the user; no matter how strong the activity is, it will only drop the ear-wearing part, but the whole headset cannot fall.
The ear-wearing part is designed as an earbud, allowing the user to enjoy the music and hear the surroundings.

We have the earcups that the company calls FinFet, so even though it is the earbud, it is difficult for Vert to fall out of the user’s ear. This wearable also feels more comfortable than traditional earbuds, as there is no hard plastic rubbing into the ears.

As mentioned above, this pair of headphones gives about 10 hours of use, which can be said to be quite good at the moment because there are also many smaller TWS pairs that have reached this threshold.

Sound quality

All of Skullcandy’s new generation headphones have been upgraded to the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard by the company, so of course, users no longer have to worry about connectivity issues and latency. To put it more broadly, by 2020, which pair of wireless headphones on the market that still uses the Bluetooth 4 standard is unacceptable, so we probably do not need to discuss this issue anymore.

We need to worry about the sound quality because the earbud design often lacks bass, thin sound – the kind of sound that goes against what Skullcandy has pursued so far. Fortunately, the company has made timely adjustments so that these headphones can still completely satisfy its loyal fans.

Although wearing a little loose, with sound out but the bass part of Vert is still quite adequate, probably because the company has intentionally increased this band to compensate for the loss in the air. If compared to last week’s Method Active pair, Vert will still have less bass, but in my opinion, it is still enough to satisfy those who like this range. Tame Impala’s The less I know, the better drum sound has a good density, a bit softer than usual, reaching sub-bass but not too much.

This sound type is continued in the mid-range when the singer’s voice is dark, warm, and bold. I would not like this expression because it makes the headset somewhat ‘locked’ and difficult to hear, but this is no longer a problem with Vert’s wearing style. Andrew Kozar’s voice in Ha Na’s Lullaby is rich, blending with the music in the background, not standing out. The high-mid has been cleverly trimmed, so the sibilance never happened, even at high volume for noisy places!
As usual, the treble strip is not the most focused in Skullcandy’s headphones. This range of Vert is also ‘weaker’ because of the earbud design, so there are not too many things worth saying. This range might be at the ‘full use’ level and ‘as a background for the other two bands’, but of course, it’s hard to please the treble-heads.

Not for everyone, perfect for those who need it

Skullcandy Vert is indeed a special pair of headphones with a design that must have a clip to work. That is not the first choice for regular users because many neat and convenient wireless headphones are on the market. But for the rugged athletes who want a pair of earphones that are easy to control with large buttons, the Vert becomes the perfect choice.
