Not the most perfect TWS on the market, but for those who want to enjoy the latest technology!
To continue the evaluation series of headphones in Skullcandy’s summer 2020 collection, we will ‘introduce’ to the most advanced product in the quartet: Push Ultra Pair. Perhaps you also remember Push, Skullcandy’s first TWS headset, although the product marked the transformation of the American sound company, there are still many weaknesses.
Coming back to the new version, what can the company do to make the user experience more complete. And is this a superior alternative to Indy Evo and Indy Fuel?
Skullcandy’s case is always the same, has a black tone that looks pretty ‘mystical’, and has the basic parameters of the headset on the front.
The slogan of this pair of headphones is “Unlimited, maximum efficiency”.
As the most premium TWS product, of course, Push Ultra is boxed very ‘good’, the foam inside is made very thick and soft to help the headset be held firmly during transportation.
The Push Ultra accessory set, apart from the manuals, only has 1 USB type-C charging cord, the reason we will find out shortly.
I really like the Push Ultra charging box, with the inside of it being sturdy, but the outside is soft plastic with zippers. The appearance of this box is quite fashionable, not ‘boring’ like other charging boxes on the market.
Push Ultra is one of the TWS pairs with the most impressive usage on the market, with the ability to play music continuously for 6 hours and up to 40 hours if used with a charging box.
In addition, the box also supports fast charging 10 minutes for 2 hours of use in times of need and also wireless charging! This is a feature that only Push Ultra and Indy Fuel have, two lower range products are missing.
And this is our Push Ultra pair, we have a rather large ear-wearing section and a flap wing. This ear-rim is shaped steel inside, so you can bend it to fit your ear, especially useful in cases of running, going to the gym.
And here’s why there’s no extra padding in the box – the Push Ultra is a pair of Ear-buds with a head that is quite similar to Apple’s pair of AirPods. This design brings its own advantages and disadvantages.
The advantage is that it will be worn comfortably with those who have small ear tubes, often needing when wearing In-ear headphones (I know a lot of you have this problem), along with that when worn out on the street, we will hear your surroundings, increasing safety for training sessions. On the contrary, the disadvantage will also be in the noise resistance, because the headphones will let in quite a lot of outside noise, this is the common disadvantage of the ear-buds that we have to accept.
There are quite a few control buttons on the ear, with 2 volume buttons along the ear body, the external logo is also the control button. Press and hold to power on, press 1 time to stop/play music, press 3 times to call up the virtual assistant and double press, and then hold to switch between EQ modes. In which there are 2 modes besides music are watching movies and listening to Podcasts.
Because the sound quality assessment will be evaluated based on the default music mode, I will also talk through two EQ modes. In movie mode, the sound will be stretched more towards the two sides of the headset, making the sound space a bit wider, of course not by the 5.1 7.1 simulated ears, but there is also an improvement. Podcast listening mode will put more emphasis on the midrange to make human voices more prominent, easier to hear. Flexible use of these modes, you will optimize the sound quality of Push Ultra.
The headset also has 2 more features to mention: IP67 water resistance and Tile search chip. IP67 water and dust resistance is a very high standard, in which it is a waterproof standard 7 that can take a bath, swim, so this will be another pair of ‘water sports’ headphones for you to choose from alongside Urbanista Athens and Noble Falcon. Tile search chip we have also learned in the review Indy Evo then, you will be able to search in 2 types:
– Press the search button near, the headset will call the chip chip like a bird for you to find, similar to calling to find a ringing smartphone.
– Press the remote search button to locate by GPS, this way the search will be more difficult, but going to that place, you can use one more method.
Ok, talking about the features of this headset too much (because it is full of auxiliary features), now we will talk about the problem of sound quality. As everyone knows, when wearing earbud headphones, the sound quality will be prone to the bright part because the bass band has been released a lot, there is no earcup to block this sound. Skullcandy probably already knows this, so it increases the bass range to help Push Ultra, although it is not completely worn on the listener’s ear, but also has quite a rich bass. This bass is concentrated in the mid-bass, giving punchy and interrupting sounds, not creating a ‘loud’ atmosphere. This type of bass play also has the advantage that bass songs like Astronomia – Vicetone have a more urgent atmosphere, and are not sluggish.
Surprisingly, the most prominent sound band of the Push Ultra is the midrange, when the bass has ‘stepped back one step’ because there is not too much volume (due to the earbud design). This mid-range is not necessarily bright, but is located in a ‘favorable’ position so it stands out more than its In-ear lines. If you want the singer’s voice to stand out even more, brighter you can completely switch to Podcast mode, but by doing so, the bass band will be weakened, affecting the listening to Dance, Pop songs; But if the Skullcandy headphones cannot hear Dance, Pop, what else can I talk about?
The negative band also surprised me quite by the high range. In recent times, the pair of headphones from Skullcandy has been much more ‘gentle’ than before, high sound range, although enough, is a bit lacking in energy. With the Push Ultra, the company has replenished this amount of energy, making the treble strip shine better, standing on par with other tonal bands.
Aiming entirely towards outdoor sports players
Indeed, the decision to choose the earbud design for the Push Ultra pair made me surprised, I thought the company would launch all-new headphones in the In-ear design. With this wearable, Push Ultra will help users hear the surrounding space to exercise safer, but in contrast, when it needs quiet, it will be more difficult.
That’s probably exactly what you need to consider when investing in this pair of headphones when everything else is done well: full EQ for use, water, and dust resistant as high as IP67, the rechargeable battery problem is made very well and the sound quality does not lack bass.
