amazon SONY WI SP510 reviews
Sony keeps releasing high-performance headphones like this SP-510, and other wireless audio brands have to upgrade themselves if they want to compete!
In addition to the new 2020 eXtra Bass speakers, Sony has also renewed the WI line of wireless headphones with a new member called SP510 – a direct upgrade version of the SP500 pair that was launched two years ago.
As usual, the best highlights of the headset will be displayed by Sony right on the box: the eXtra Bass diaphragm increases bass, 15 hours of use and IPX5 water resistance.
In the box will be a USB Type-C charging cord, 3 rubber pads and 2 alternate earcups with different sizes, plus a built-in set on the ear of 3.
The previous Sony SP500 pair had a neck-loop design, but with the new version, the company used a rigid necklace to move electronic components down to the user’s shoulders, reducing the burden on the ears. This is a very good decision because the SP510 feels so comfortable to wear, sometimes you forget about wearing these headphones on your ear!
The necklace has 2 large clusters and is thin on the back, reducing the size as possible.
The buttons are moved to the left edge, there are only 3 buttons to control all the features of the headset.
The charging port is covered with a plastic door to ensure IPX5 water resistance. Unfortunately, the ear is not dustproof, but with this sturdy finish, I don’t worry about the durability of the SP510!
The ear cups are stylized by cutting diagonal bevels, with each side integrated with magnets to attach when not in use. The side-mounted ear cushions with the wings make for an extremely solid wearing feel, and also said that the ear cups are so light that they look like they’re not wearing!

As everyone knows, in recent times Sony has no longer distinguished the WI (wireless neckband headphones) and XB (eXtra bass) product lines too much, and the WI line has also owned eXtra Bass driver. Sony WI SP510 is no exception, these headphones are tuned in the XB style: bass, strong, and the rest of the sound are not too sinking, but also one step back to let the bass show.
The SP510’s bass is generally mid-bass rather than sub-bass, quite full, and has great energy. As I noticed, the headphones of Sony recently had a slightly increased bass speed, so it no longer feels too cluttered. Yosi Horikawa’s Letter is also more fully expressed, but the drum sound is quite floating and stands in front of the listener and fades away, leaving not too much echo.
With such ‘intensive’ bass, it is understandable that the midrange has to take 1 step back in SP510’s sound quality. But the way Sony tuned the sound of this strip made it not ‘sink’, not completely disappear. The overall middle range, but the high-mid is slightly pushed so that the female singers, string instruments have the power to get closer to the user. This could also be an effect of better fit on the SP510 than the SP500 pair. Freddy Mercury’s voice in Radio Ga Ga stood next to the drumming but still kept its clarity and detail.
The SP510 treble also received a similar minor upgrade to the mid-range. Although there is no highest position in the entire sound range because it had to give way to the bass a little, but the company is also observant when increasing a little energy for the treble, making it play more ‘serenity’. I still wouldn’t call this a ‘balanced’ sound quality, but it can be said that there is enough noise to be able to play a wide variety of music genres well, with the emphasis on bass!
Old taste but higher finishing
What we see in the WI SP510 are not a mutation, but a somewhat familiar ‘flavor’ of Sony’s low- and mid-range WI products. What we get is higher perfection: a youthful design, lighter ear wear, IPX5 water resistance, a 15-hour increase in duration, and an inherently vibrant eXtra Bass sound.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, Sony is currently very strong in the low- and mid-range wireless earphones segment, so if the sound companies from China want to continue to compete in the future, they must continuously do new, make even better products!
