amazon SteelSeries Arctis 9X reviews
Bluetooth headsets are usually a mixed bag. Use between several consoles, gaming platforms, and other devices can be a recipe for disaster, as they compete for possible interference and other challenges when trying to find a location perfect for your gaming experience.
I’ve had such problems during my time using the Arctis 9X, contaminating a spectacular kit. This wireless headset works great with Xbox One, connects with the simplicity of the controller, and is instantly modeled to match my experience with the console.
The SteelSeries Arctis 9X gaming headset has also graced the device with plenty of bells and whistles, which justifies its initial price tag. Aside from some imperfections, this is a great headphone that delivers impressive sound, elegant design, and more.
Design
Compared to other headphones I’ve tried, what immediately jumps to the Artis 9X from SteelSeries is the perfectly flat design of the headphones. There were no exaggerated lighting or stabilizing accessories hanging over my ears, which added complexity to what should have been a quick and simple feature. What you get with the Arctis 9X instead is a smooth, flat surface that feels great.
Be careful when placing the Arctis 9X on a table or similar rough surface, though: its mostly plastic exterior is prone to scratches and marks. This is one of my biggest doubts aside from the metal band, which in turn is sheltered by other materials.
While the Arctis 9X seems decidedly premium, the plastic materials used in much of the headphone industry can frustrate users expecting something a bit more sophisticated. This plastic frame extends beyond the pads and into the headband, not expanding as expected from similar devices.
Instead, you’ll have to play with the fabric that wraps around your ears to find the comfort level that’s right for you. However, it only took me a few minutes to adjust the headset to fit my head and I was fine for dozens of hours. In any case, reject the potential wear and tear you’ll see in traditional headphones.
This comfort extends to the pads, one of the best I’ve tried. As a glasses user, I often find that with many devices I get a slight headache after a few hours of use. Here, it’s not like that; The Arctis 9X is great to wear. However, keep in mind that the headset may be a bit small for some people.
As for the buttons, wheel, and other input modes, most of these are on the right earpiece, from where you can control power, Bluetooth connectivity, volume, and whether the internal microphone is muted. The left ear has a scroll wheel to determine the balance between the app’s audio (games, movies, etc.) and the microphone. Everything is intuitively located and easily identified without having to completely remove the headset.
Audio function
The overall sound quality through the Arctis 9X and its various configurations are extremely impressive, especially for a wireless headset that connects via nothing more than a Bluetooth dongle. Pressing the power button once lets you scroll through a variety of presets, providing a sound landscape tailored to specific genres or applications. Shooters can claim a profile with a low badge, while the atmospheric horror experience favors the subtle and subtle audio cues that feel evident here.
The default options are great right out of the box, though audiophiles hoping to make their choice of sound profiles can download the SteelSeries tool and change things up in detail. You must install it on your PC or laptop to use the software.
Otherwise, console players should be satisfied with the selection of available configurations from the start. The versatility is welcome, as it offers an element of customization that not all competing headsets can match.
SteelSeries has stated that the Arctis 9X has a so-called “acoustic space”, which means the audio performance is designed to detect all the noises occurring around the player, no matter how thin. In a few weeks of testing, I can guarantee a high-impact realism that leads to a variety of genres.
The Arctis 9X can be used both wirelessly and with cable, although there is no cable in the package. It connects to Xbox One as a controller and is very easy to configure. To use it on a PC, you’ll need an Xbox wireless dongle and, as before, connect as you would with a controller. It was relatively straightforward, although I had to restart the Discord app to recognize the microphone.
The headset also has two connectivity options, which means you can connect to your PC/Console and another Bluetooth device at the same time. For example, you can answer phone calls or listen to music on your smartphone while playing on Xbox One. This extends to apps like Discord, Skype, and Spotify, giving the Arctis 9X a sense of flexibility that I appreciate.
Should you buy the SteelSeries Arctis 9X gaming headset?
If you have €180 going around, the SteelSeries Arctis 9X is one of the best gaming headsets you can buy right now. It offers versatility in consoles and PCs, including a wide range of customization options, sound profiles, and other features that culminate in an experience.
The plastic aesthetic and small size may frustrate some players, detracting from the premium feel, but it’s a small price to pay for one of the most impressive wireless headphones I’ve tried in a while.
The Arctis 9X is a great gaming headset that works well with Xbox One and PC, leveraging beneficial platforms to deliver a clear, concise, and satisfactory audio product. It costs a good penny, but it’s almost certainly worth it.
