TFZ has been well known in Asian through IEM earphones that are sleek, well finished, impressive sound quality and extremely comfortable price. In the current trend of wirelessization, TFZ cannot stand by. And in early 2019, the company launched its first IEM True-Wireless headset color and also the first IEM True-Wireless model in the world called TFZ X1. IEM headphones with reference sound have become wireless, let’s find out in this article.
PACKING TFZ X1
The design and packaging of the TFZ X1 reminds me of the packaging of apple products. Colorless, extremely minimalistic, but exuding a sense of luxury. There is nothing more on the box than the product name, the TFZ logo and a little manufacturer information.
Inside we have a box even more beautiful and more wonderful. This is the charger of the TFZ X1 but temporarily put the box aside and see what accessories TFZ gives us.
The included accessory includes 6 pairs of different sized silicon tips to ensure anyone can fit the headset. 1 micro USB charging cable and 1 user manual in English and Chinese. We don’t have the charger. It is easy to understand because I have not seen any company give the charger attached to the headset ever.
DESIGN TFZ X1
Just now we mentioned the box. Previously, I had the opportunity to hand on a handful of preliminary Wireless products including Apple Airpod, Sony WF-1000X, Bose SoundSport Free, Jabra Elite 65t, Pamu Scroll, Pamu x13, NuForce Free, JBL Free, BlueAnt AirPump … So I can confirm that this is the most beautiful bundled charger that I’ve ever touched.
The entire box is made of solid aluminum (probably due to the battery capacity up to 2600mAh inside too). Finely crafted, the outer surface is treated with a rough surface and is sharply curved to feel like holding a lover’s hand. On the top of the box, the TFZ logo is exquisitely printed in the middle, simple and sophisticated. At the bottom of the box is the name and a bit of specifications about this charging box. On the side we have a Micro USB charging port and a small indicator light hole on the side.
True to its name, the TFZ X1 is not an ordinary True Wireless headset but it is an IEM True Wireless. It housing part has a teardrop shape similar to TFZ’s traditional IEM ears. The weight is very light in the hand, according to NSX, it weighs less than 5g for one ear.
TFZ X1 will have all 4 different colors: Metallic Gray, Blue, Red and Pink. Each color version will have a corresponding color box included. At the moment, I see a lot of blue and gray.
The faceplate on the front is not metal. I also mistakenly thought that TFZ X1 made a metal housing because it made a cardboard box with a box but it was not. Made of plastic will be lighter, better reception. At the end of the drop is the hole of the inner microphone. This microphone was announced by TFZ to be capable of filtering environmental noise when talking, for clearer calls, this will be tested later.
The housing is connected to the faceplate very seamlessly, without any excess plastic. Overall design of the TFZ X1 is both unique and beautiful, very good finishing, there is no point to reproach.
TECHNOLOGY ON TFZ X1
In addition to sound quality, this is always the part that makes me most interested in true wireless headphones.
TFZ is equipped with the latest and greatest technology of a True-Wireless headset on the market today.
We have the latest Bluetooth connectivity standard 5.0 for better connectivity, more stable waves. As far as I find out, the TFZ X1 supports 2 Bluetooth codecs, SBC and AAC. These are 2 common codecs equipped on most current True-Wireless headphones so I will not talk about this part anymore.
Next is the water resistance up to IPX7 (some pages say IP67 but I refer to Chinese sources, they say IPX7 only). This means you can drop the TFZ X1 in the water, pick it up, dry it and put it on your ears like never before. Believe it or not, let’s try it later. If so, the TFZ X1 is the strongest waterproof True Wireless headset in the world. Products released in 2018 only the highest Jabra Elite 65t Active is IP45.
The battery on TFZ X1 has a continuous operating time of up to 7 hours. One of the longest battery products in the current True-Wireless world. On average, popular models like Apple Airpod or Bose SoundSport Free, the battery can only last up to 5 hours.
TFZ X1 is equipped with a full-range BA driver instead of the traditional Dynamic driver for better resolution, more detail and more stable operation. TFZ X1 is also one of the first True Wireless in the world to apply this driver technology.
TFZ also included a few other cool features. It is CVC noise filtering technology that allows reducing environmental noise when making conversations, helping the voice become clearer.
And yet, the TFZ X1 also has an extremely powerful ability. These two headsets will normally function as a single pair of headphones, but when needed, they can be split into two separate headphones. That means you use one ear and the other you lend it to others normally, which is wonderful.
EXPERIENCE IN TFZ X1
The stability of the connection
The most important thing about a True-Wireless headset, I think, is the connection. No matter how good a headset or sound quality is, how much technology the listening experience is disrupted is a true disaster. Fortunately, TFZ X1 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0. According to the company, the maximum connection distance is up to 20m, to verify, I have worn the TFZ X1 indoors and when I go on the street to see the comparison and stability. My room is over 10m wide, I put the phone in the corner of the room and go out the door. The connection is very good, uninterrupted for 30 minutes continuously, very impressed with its reception capability. I went out the door and closed the door, the connection began to weaken due to the barrier, the music was interrupted a little bit but still not completely turned off. I kept running up the stairs for about 3m more, this time the connection dropped a lot, the music was jerky and about 2m more to the toilet the music broke off. So I can conclude that the best operating range of TFZ X1 is about 10m, the other 20m is just a theoretical advertisement.
Wearing sensation:
The first experience of putting it on ear was that it was extremely compact and light. Previously, the Pamu Scroll model I was quite impressed with the small housing size but with TFZ X1, the feeling is much better. The IEM-style housing has a tail that helps shape the ears very well, it keeps the ears from turning in the wrong position and also significantly increases the grip. TFZ has the size from faceplate to the very short exhaust pipe, so when worn on the ear, there is no excess, sticking out, plus the housing is strongly curved so there is absolutely no feeling of ear piercing. Testing vibration, shaking all the way, running and dancing when practicing GYM but TFZ X1 really cling like that, refused to budge from his ears. Partly because the housing weight is too light plus good ear holding, the centrifugal force is not strong enough to make it slip out.
In my opinion, this is probably the True-Wireless model with the best wearable experience in 2019.

Volume level
One thing that I need to note is the volume of the TFZ X1. Even when turned on at max volume, the volume is not too loud as when listening with wired headphones. I think TFZ has set a certain volume limit to protect the hearing of bared people, partly to extend the driver’s life and optimize battery life.
Previously, many of my friends wondered why the True-Wireless headphones were smaller than wired ones, so I would like to explain. Whether the headset has a large or small cord depends on the strength of the source and the impedance/ sensitivity of that headset. Most headsets on phones have low impedance and high sensitivity for easy drag. In addition, the power level of the phone is always made to be redundant to be able to listen to the headphones with different impedance. Therefore, when the headset is turned on, the volume is turned up very loudly, even some ears may be timid, damaged drivers due to unable to withstand high volume. This is true on true-wireless headsets that have been calculated by the manufacturers to ensure three factors, you hear well, driver durability and battery life close to the results announced. So it is always limited, there is no way to exceed this limit so the volume on TrueWireless headphones is usually smaller than most wired headphones.
Battery life
The actual battery life I experienced when listening to music continuously at 70% volume, the battery survived about 6 hours. When listening to music and sometimes have a call, the battery lasts about 5.5 hours. This number is not too much different from the manufacturer’s specifications, so I have no complaints about this issue.
Well, one thing to note, I encountered the situation is that when one headset runs out of battery, the other side will still work normally. But because I’m lazy, put all the batteries in the charging box about 5p then take out and listen again. Both sides still hear normally and then the next time the battery ran out, I saw the music stopped on both ears. Perhaps this is a hidden feature to protect the battery. It is best to keep both sides fully charged before use.
Water resistant:
According to the manufacturer, the TFZ X1 is IPX7 water-resistant, meaning it can be washed or even immersed in a short time, the ear survives and operates normally.
I tried dropping her in a glass of water for about 10 minutes to see how much it resisted. As a result, It still survives, there is a bit of water sticking to the sound grid, so at first it will hear the sound of water. Once dried, everything works normally. Proof is quite difficult for you to imagine, but one thing is for sure that if you wear this headset in the rain, it will not affect at all.
Features use 2 independent headsets
This is a unique feature on the TFZ X1 that I mentioned in the previous section. But for me, it is quite confusing and complicated. To use this feature, you have to manually turn off one side, as I do on the left. Then hold the power button on that ear for about 3 seconds until the red light flashes, use another phone to connect quickly before the two of them recognize each other and boom. We have 2 separate MONO ears, each headset has one machine.
Put them in the charging box, lift off at the same time, it will pair. I tried it just now, the one on the right will keep it connected to the phone, then it will pair with the other ear.
SOUND OF TFZ X1
Introduced as the world’s first IEM True-Wireless headset, the sound of the TFZ X1 is “as rumored”. Overall sound quality I find very balanced and pleasant.
Bass range:
This bass I’ve seen on IEM headphones using many BA drivers before. Bass hit quite neat, good control, good hitting power but it seems not to be very deep. Focus more on the mid-bass section. There is a bit of IEM when the bass is slightly separated but not very clear. But have to admit, no other True-Wireless I’ve heard do the bass so clean and polite like this. Cheap models like Pamu Scroll or Pamu X13 are too much in volume and out of control and TFZ X1 works with much better bass range. Compared to the Bose Soundsport brothers, TFZ X1 will certainly nestle in terms of volume, ability to go deep.
Mid range:
This is the range that TFZ X1 in my opinion is best done. Mid in the middle, neither forward nor backward, sounds very comfortable and not tired. Recall that this is a headset that uses only one BA driver, the more I find this true. The singer’s voice is kept strong enough, quite sentimental, not thin and high-pitched. Details in the voice are also kept pretty. No sibling phenomenon. Show that the mid of TFZ X1 is well controlled.
Treb strip:
This strip is the most detailed blur on True-Wireless headphones ever experienced (except for V-Shape sounds) It can be seen that the treb band on TFZ X1 is quite gentle. The tinkling, hihat sounds are still clear but not sharp enough to keep the sound full and bright.
Soundstage:
The soundstage is a bright spot on the TFZ X1. It is quite wide, the distance between singers and instruments is spread horizontally rather than depth. The feeling of space is very comfortable, not as confined as the cheap True-Wireless. Anyway, this is too good compared to the previous True-Wireless.
In summary, the sound quality of TFZ X1 is exactly IEM. The sound is mature, polite and sophisticated in the direction of the test. The graph is quite flat, does not emphasize any sound range, wide soundstage. Surely if you are a true audio believer, you should not ignore the sound quality of this headset.
