Tiny Tina has always been considered by the Borderlands community as one of the most memorable characters in this series, even though this “little girl” only had very supporting roles in the two “main” versions of Borderlands in which she appeared.

Understandably, Tina embodies all the hallmarks of the Borderlands franchise – a quick-witted and at times unstoppable sense of humor, an undying spirit of adventure, and a sense of humor that likes to blow things up in the loudest and ostentatious ways possible, all supported by deep compassion and a history of loss.

Through that, the Borderlands community’s love of Tiny Tina is most evident through the resounding success of Borderlands 2’s Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon’s Keep DLC, where the familiar Borderlands story is set in a single Dungeons ‘n Dragons play session by the rich imagination of Tiny Tina.

Seeming to understand that, the Gearbox team has developed a separate “spin-off” game for this particular character, in the spirit of the legendary DLC called Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, once again letting the player adventure into this girl’s… hyperactive imagination.

After a Borderlands 3 with so many improvements and changes, the writer expected Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands as a version of “old wine in a new bottle” with a fantasy context only.

But the Gearbox team didn’t “play it safe” but added a lot of important improvements in the main gameplay loop of the game.

In, the three most important improvements are Hero Stats, spells, and melee weapons.

In terms of character stats, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands does not allow players to choose a pre-made character but will create their character (like Western RPGs) with relatively similar gameplay, with options to choose from. The only limited selection is the character class, with six distinct “ultimate” skills.

This means that the main skills of the character will become “easier to understand” and simpler such as increased gun damage, and movement speed … but these mechanisms, therefore, resonate better with the basic stats version that the player chooses.

These basic stats are arranged like those in familiar fantasy role-playing games such as Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligent … but they will not play a decisive role determine the player’s core metrics such as health or damage, which will play a more complementary role such as increasing the probability and critical damage, reducing timing skill cooldown, etc.

This makes the player’s “metrics” improvements between levels more apparent, and with a Borderlands version that is more about weapons than skills, these additions make the gameplay loop even worse and become more attractive.

And yet, the other two important additions and changes are that players can now equip different melee weapons and spells!

Borderlands’ monotonous melee mechanics are now changed by a deep melee system, with tons of different melee weapons with different attack speeds, damage, and effects for players to choose from. Choose and combine during gameplay, with a pronounced effect in an insanely fast and furious gameplay.

The writer’s favorite melee weapon is a very funny and powerful “good”: a frying pan with the ability to reflect up to 90% of damage! And in the game, there is no shortage of this crazy equipment!

As for magic, they are now replacing grenades and as a result, the Gearbox team gets to apply more crazy skill ideas.

This sorcery is no longer purely dealing damage, but can also play a supporting role such as creating lifesteal effects, tying feet, summoning “disciples”, controlling the game screen …. creating a lot of crazy combinations, and…. effective for players instead of sticking to one character’s playstyle as before.

These additions are primarily about increasing the variety and freedom of players in approaching and solving problems (with guns) to the maximum, as well as the “respec” multiplier. Items are incredibly easy and cheap, making the game’s freedom of crazy battle loop approach the game’s brightest!

All these improvements will be enjoyed by players through the Chaos Chambers mode that is “unlocked” after the player completes the campaign, with extremely detailed customization difficulty and rewards satisfy!

With tons of guns and different gameplay, the fun with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands seems to be endless… of course, if you get through the lengthy campaign I will “tell” the following!

Despite all-important improvements to the game’s core gameplay loop, the “old” problems of the Borderlands franchise still haunt Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and new problems emerge because of the scale Tiny of the game!

The sense of humor of the Borderlands brand always has more “boring” than “excited” points, when many characters think: they talk a lot and fast means they are making players crawl on the floor! But if you keep talking like that for nearly 15 years, it will certainly be saturated and boring, which is nowhere more evident than in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands!

Although there is a “terrible” star with a “bloody” comedy career like Will Arnett (Bojack Horseman, Arrested Development) or Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping), seeing the characters. If you repeat the same joke over and over again during the 20 hours of the campaign, you will find it more “choking” than funny.

In addition, the character Tiny Tina in seasons two and three is annoying, but cutely annoying with a very interesting depth, while Tiny Tina in this season is just annoying without the loveliness and dimension deep before.

These make the game’s clever and funny moments drowned out in thousands of bland jokes.

This makes the game’s content delivery model even more severely affected. Players now no longer travel the world in the first person or vehicles but will have to go back and forth on a “chessboard” like traditional DnD tables, with side quests and other challenges its own little joke.

This mechanic would have been smarter and lovable if the Gearbox hadn’t had trouble keeping the tempo consistent.

Some side content will require the player to interact with the board directly, and some content will require the player to go into very short and simple dungeons, so getting from point A to point B will be lots of downtimes and leveling up to play through the campaign would be boring…

Seeming to understand this, Gearbox has attempted to add a random encounter mechanism to the game, where the player will occasionally encounter a clash and be forced to take down several enemies to “escape” from the clash.

The freedom in the approach to gameplay is suddenly severely limited, because if the player wants to fight, usually nothing happens, and when the player does not want to, he is forced into tight arenas, boring!

To make matters worse, Borderlands’ famous cel-shading visuals, though more flashy than in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, aren’t used to portray locations as diverse and interesting as the main series, but rather revolve around fantasy places lacking creativity! For enemies reworked from Borderlands 3, just change the wings.

All this combined makes it hard to spend 20 hours through the game’s campaign to get to the gripping Chaos Chambers!
