amazon Wyze Bulb reviews
The Wyze Bulb is an affordable white LED light that you can control with your voice, phone, and many other smart home devices.
With Wyze-Bulb-the-Wyse Bulb-was an ultra-affordable security camera brand, as-per-the-name-a white LED light with adjustable shooting colors that come at only $7.99, making it one of the lowest-priced options one can get. Being the cheapest, it still has plenty of features built-in; it supports Wi-Fi connectivity, voice commands from Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, white temperature adjustment, scheduling options, and interaction with other smart home devices. Plus, it is very simple to set up and needs no hub for running. These features make them the Editors’ Choice for Smart White LED Bulbs.
Design and Features
Wyze Bulb is a dimmable white LED that emits 800 lumens, correlating well with the power output level from an incan light of 60 watts-the bulb is adjustable in that one can vary its white temperature from 2700 K (Warm) to 6500 K (Cool), and it has a lifespan rating of 20,000 hours. It has a traditional A19 form and a standard-size E26 base, the dimensions of which are 4.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 inches (HWD). It’s only for indoor use and has its own 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio embedded within, so you get rid-of-lots-of clutter-means-no-hub-like how Philips Hue White needs.
The same mobile app-controlled bulbs control other Wyze devices, like the Wyze Cam Pan security camera and the Wyze Sense Starter Kit. The home screen contains tabs for all installed Wyze devices with their names and current status (Online, Offline). You can turn the Wyze Bulb on and off with the button on the tab or open it and do other things like adjusting the brightness and color temperature settings with the sliders. You can also create a Scene that will turn on the light bulb using a preset color temperature and brightness level.
Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to edit the name of the bulb, turn on Sleep Mode to randomly turn the bulb on and off to make the bulb look like someone is at home, edit or delete Scenes and create Rules to have bulbs interact with other Wyze devices and turn them on and off on a schedule. You can also use IFTTT apps to get the bulb to work with third-party smart devices like cameras and doorbells, and you can turn it on and off with Amazon Alexa and Assistant voice commands. Google. However, Apple HomeKit is not supported.
Settings and Performance
As with other Wyze smart devices, the Wyze Bulb is easy to set up. I already have a Wyze account from previous reviews, but you’ll have to download the mobile app and create an account if this is your first Wyze product.
I screwed the light bulb into the socket, turned the light on, and tapped the three dots on the app’s home screen from the upper right corner. I clicked on Add Product and then selected Wyze Bulb from the list. According to the instructions on the app, I sent the bulb into pairing mode by power cycling the fixture three times: switch on-off-on-off-on-off. This is the time when the bulb would start blinking. I then chose Next, typed in my Wi-Fi password, and connected to the bulb SSID from my phone’s Wi-Fi settings. After roughly 30 seconds, a prompt appeared, and after the bulb was named, the setup was finally done.
The Wyze Bulb offers a soft yellow glow at the lowest temperature setting on the warm side and a sharp cold blue at the top temperature setting, responding immediately to commands from the app and Alexa voice commands. I have a Rule setup that switches on the bulb thoroughly when the motion sensor or Wyze contact sensor triggers, and it works flawlessly. There is another IFTTT app that turns on the Wyze bulb whenever an Arlo Pro 3 camera detects motion, and it works every time. It is always working, just like with me.
Conclusion
Being priced at $7.99, Wyze Bulb was one of the cheaper white LEDs in our tests. With all its features, such as voice control, interaction with other smart devices, scheduling, one-touch scene selections, and Wi-Fi integration, it is truly one of the most feature-rich LEDs available on the market. Moreover, it is simple to install, performed well in testing, and required no hub.
