amazon Yeelight Smart LED Bulb reviews
Yeelight Smart LED Bulbs are affordable color LED bulbs that you can control with your phone or voice and don’t require a controller. It supports HomeKit, Alexa, Google platforms and works with other smart devices through IFTTT.
We’ve reviewed a ton of smart bulbs, and while we’ve yet to find a bulb that does it all, the Yeelight Smart LED Bulb has come up pretty close. It’s dimmable, offers 16 million colors, and connects wirelessly to your home network without the need for a hub or bridge. It supports Apple HomeKit, IFTTT, and Alexa, Google, and Siri voice commands, and it’s relatively affordable at $25.99. It also offers a user-friendly application that allows you to configure lighting effects and create lighting schedules.
Design and Features
The Yeelight bulb is a dimmable bulb with a 16 million color palette, 1700K to 6500K white temperature range, and an 800-lumen brightness rating equivalent to a 60-watt bulb. It has an E26 base and will fit into any standard light socket. The bulb measures 4.6 inches long and 2.2 inches wide and has an expected lifespan of 22 years (based on three hours of use per day). Inside is a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio used to connect the bulb to your home network and mobile apps.
The mobile app for Android and iOS is easy to use and offers some neat lighting effects features. It opens the Devices screen with tabs for all your Yeelight bulbs containing the name, status (online, offline), and an On/Off button. Tapping on any tab will take you to a screen where you can customize the bulb by selecting a color from the palette, choosing the white temperature, setting the bulb brightness level, and selecting Flow Mode, which runs the color gamut between yellow and blue. The Flow Mode setting allows you to control the flow rate quickly or gradually transition from one color to another and adjust the brightness level while in this particular mode.
The app also offers preset color scenes like Dawn (slightly red), Night Mode (dim and warm), Movie (blue), Romance (gradient from dark blue to red), and Flashes (mimic a candle) and has a Music Stream setting that changes color based on music and other sounds using your phone’s microphone. Additional settings allow you to create a lighting schedule and set a timer so that the bulb automatically turns off after a certain amount of time.
Back on the Devices page, there are three buttons stuck to the bottom of the screen. Tapping the Scene button lets you create a one-touch icon to turn the bulb on/off or put it into color state. The Room button lets you create a room and control multiple lights from the group, whereas Devices returns you to the Devices screen.
The Yeelight is supported by voice commands from Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant. Thus, being a part of HomeKit home automation system would allow it to be included in HomeKit Scenes and also in SmartThings. It is not quite as versatile as the Philips Hue bulb, which is compatible with a variety of smart home platforms, including Logitech, Vivint, Wink, and Xfinity Home. At the very least, you can create IFTTT recipes to link the Yeelight with other smart home devices supported by IFTTT such as cameras, doorbells, and plugs.

Settings and Performance
Setting up a Yeelight is straightforward. After having downloaded the app, I proceeded to create and verify my account via email. I selected Devices at the bottom of the screen, tapped Add Device, and chose the LED Bulb (Color) from the list.
Following the instructions from the app, I put the bulb in the light socket, moved to the Next Step, chose the Wi-Fi SSID, and entered my Wi-Fi password. I then accessed my Wi-Fi settings on my phone, connected to the Yeelight SSID, waited for about 12 seconds until it was added to the Devices list, and the installation was complete.
Yeelight exhibits very rich colors and shades in white from cool blues to warm yellows in our tests. It quickly responds to app commands such as turning on and off, setting colors and dimming levels; all other operations such as Flow Mode, Schedule, Timer, and Music Stream function perfectly.
The bulb had no trouble responding to Alexa, and Siri commands to turn it on and off or change color, and HomeKit scenes worked without issue. I made an IFTTT app so that the bulb turns red when the Arlo Pro 2 camera detects motion, and it works every time.
Conclusion
Install wi-fi-connected colorful smart lighting and you have what could be one of the smartest available bulbs to brighten up a home, with a small catch: it doesn’t offer as much interoperability with other smart devices as do Philip Hue bulbs. Still, it is more affordable and works with three of the largest voice control platforms and Apple HomeKit (unlike our previous Editorial Pick Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED). And You can get it to work with other connected devices using IFTTT apps.
