Looks like last year’s band, just a bit bigger

If you only glance at it, the Xiaomi Smart Band 11 doesn’t look much different from earlier Xiaomi bands. It keeps the slim oval frame, so it still looks close to an ordinary wristband.

It measures 47.44 x 23.66 x 9.99mm, a little larger than the Band 10, but about as thin. It weighs only around 16g without the strap, light enough to wear all day.

The strap is smooth TPU rubber that doesn’t get sweaty or uncomfortable during workouts. The frame is aluminum, which holds up well, and the build quality is pretty good.

The back is nearly the same as the Band 10, from the strap mount to the charging port and sensor positions. The one upgrade is a new-generation PD sensor module. It’s larger and has a wider contact area, so health readings should be more accurate.

Like the last model, it’s rated 5 ATM for water and dust, so walking in the rain or ordinary swimming is fine.

A good AMOLED screen that gets bright

I think the display is good. It’s a 1.72-inch AMOLED, noticeably bigger than on earlier bands, and the extra room shows more detail at 212 x 520 pixels.

Watch faces, icons and animations look clear and eye-catching. It isn’t as smooth as a regular smartwatch, but touch response is quick and accurate, and I rarely mis-tapped or missed a button.

Brightness reaches 2,000 nits, which is plenty for a sunny day outside. It also has auto brightness, palm cover to turn off the screen, and Always On Display, so it covers most of what people want.

Health and basic sports tracking

It’s still a handy health tracker. Heart rate, sleep, SpO2 and stress are all there, easy to read, and they feed the stats and body assessments in the Mi Fitness app.

It tracks more than 150 sports, indoor and outdoor, with running as the main focus. The menu has a Running Course feature with basic workouts to help beginners start running properly.

There’s no GPS. For a band that’s acceptable, but you have to carry your phone if you want to record distance during a workout.

HyperOS 4.2: small interface changes, easier to read long text

It runs Xiaomi HyperOS 4.2, and content shows up clearly even on a small screen. I could read every notification, chart and menu without any trouble.

It shows notifications for messages, ads and calls. Xiaomi also adjusted the font, so long text is easier to read on the band.

Icons for common apps display clearly. Emoji and icons in messages, notifications or less common apps still show up as empty squares, though. I’d like Xiaomi to add support and fix that in a future update.

A 233mAh battery that lasts over 20 days

With the bigger body, the Band 11 has a 233mAh battery, good for about 20 days of ordinary use. In my test over 4 to 6 days it used only about 34% of the battery. That’s a good drain rate, and you won’t run out halfway through.

Should you buy the Xiaomi Smart Band 11?

For most people it does what’s needed: small, convenient, shows notifications and messages, and handles basic workouts. That’s also the limit of a smartband. The body is small, so adding more sensors or new features is hard. If you want a small, standard device for wearing, working out and notifications, the Band 11 does the job. If you need GPS for workouts, more sensors or more features, a smartwatch makes more sense.

Highlights

  • 1.72-inch AMOLED display with ultra-thin 2.0mm bezels, 2,000 nits peak brightness for outdoor reading, and Always On Display support.
  • Just 9.99mm thin and light, with a soft strap that’s comfortable and gentle on skin, even while sleeping.
  • More than 150 sports modes, 5 ATM water resistance with underwater heart rate tracking, and full health monitoring (heart rate, SpO2, sleep, stress).
  • Battery life of up to 21 days, plus Bluetooth 5.4. A good pick if you want a durable, stylish fitness band.
