amazon Zotac GeForce GTX 660 AMP! Edition reviews
Compact, based on the GK104 graphics core and some components removed, but the Zotac GeForce GTX 660 AMP! Edition’s performance is no less competitive than the graphics card GeForce GTX 670 GPU and overclocked RAM is quite high.
DESIGN
Design of the Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti AMP! Edition based on GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
Similar to two high-end GPUs, the GeForce GTX 680 and 670, the GTX 660 Ti also uses the GK104 graphics core, but has removed some component for a more competitive price tag for the majority of users. The GTX 660 Ti also has a total of 1344 CUDA cores arranged into four Graphics Processing Clusters (GPCs) sharing L2 cache; Of which the fourth GPC has only 1 SMX such as GTX 670 and less than 192 CUDA cores compared to GTX 680.
In addition, the number of ROP units, L2 cache and memory controller of GeForce GTX 660 Ti is also less than the GTX 670 and 680. This is evident through the specifications of the GeForce GTX 660 Ti. Specifically, the GTX 660 Ti has only 24 ROP units, L2 cache capacity 384 KB and 192 bit memory bandwidth.
Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti AMP! Edition (called Zotac 660 Ti AMP) is a graphics card manufacturers have overclocked, so the default GPU operating at a clock frequency of 1,033 MHz and can reach 1111 MHz in the GPU Boost mode; Higher than the standard GTX 660 Ti is 12.9 – 13.4% respectively. In addition, the RAM of the card is about 10% higher (1.652 MHz) and memory bandwidth is 158.6 GB/s.
The Zotac 660 Ti AMP also features 3D imaging Vision Ready 3D technology with approximately 600 3D game titles and 3D entertainment content. The card has four video outputs including DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort, and nVidia Surround technology for pairing up to four monitors with a single card for displaying high resolution images. Play games, show movies or work with multiple applications at the same time.
The card also supports 3-way SLI technology, ready for multi-graphics configurations for game or graphics configurations.
Graphics card manufacturers are overclocked, the Zotac 660 Ti AMP will require two power lines + 12V PCIe with a minimum total power of 24A (equivalent to 288W) and power supply 450W or higher.
The Dual Silencer cooling system incorporates two 80mm cooling fans to ensure optimum heat dissipation as well as minimizing background noise during operation. According to Zotac, compared to conventional heat sinks, the Dual Silencer technology reduces the graphics card temperature by 10 degrees Celsius and 10 dB noise level during operation.
With dimensions of 19×11,1×3,9 cm and weighs around 460g (without accessories), the Zotac 660 Ti AMP looks much more compact than the Zotac 670 AMP.
The heat sink is simpler with three copper heatpipes inside the PCB.
In addition, the Zotac 660 Ti AMP also occupies an adjacent expansion card slot, suitable for either mini tower boxes or desktop units.
EXPERIMENT
To evaluate the power of the GeForce GTX 660 Ti AMP graphics card! The Edition, Test Lab uses experimental configuration built on the Z77 BMC chipset platform, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 and NVIDIA’s GeForce 301.42 driver. Graphics tests include CineBench R11.5, 3DMark 11, Heaven Benchmark v3.0 and some DirectX 11 games such as DiRT 3, Alien vs. 3D. Predator 1.03 and Crysis 2. The results of the tests run at HD 720p (1280×720) and full HD 1080p (1920×1080).
With the Cinebench R11.5 (64 bit) tool, the experimental configuration achieved 57.37 fps (fps) in OpenGL graphics tests.
In testing the processor’s multi-threading capabilities and graphics card based on the 3DMark 11 engine, the Zotac 660 Ti AMP scored 8,301 points in performance mode, a resolution of 1280×720 and reached 2,791 points of extreme mode, with a resolution of 1920×1080. Compared to the Zotac 670 AMP graphics card, the lower test results were 5.51% and 11.54%, respectively.
With the Heaven Benchmark, the graphics benchmark is pretty much similar to 3DMark 11 but mainly emphasizes tessellation technology; One of the outstanding technologies in the DirectX 11 graphics library, the frame rate per second of the Zotac 660 Ti AMP is still higher than the standard 30 fps about 23.67% in both Ultra mode with the highest graphics setting ( Tessellation: extreme, shaders: high, 8xAA and 16xAF).
For DirectX 11 platform test games like DiRT 3, Alien vs. Predator and Crysis 2, Zotac 660 Ti AMP still show the “respectable” power over the number of frames per second achieved. Even with Crysis 2, one of the hardcore games today, the test results of the card at full HD resolution, Extreme graphics quality is still higher mark at 30fps about 100% (60.03 fps).

Temperature, power consumption
To test the graphics card heat dissipation and power consumption of the test configuration, Test Lab uses the MSI Afterburner utility with the MSI Kombustor “heavy” graphical emulation based on the OpenGL library. Temperature and power consumption are recorded using GPU-z and Logger Lite software, a 26-degree C test environment.
In idle mode, the GPU temperature is 30 degrees Celsius, the fan runs smoothly at 1,380 rpm. The power consumption of the test configuration is 80.2W; Calculated by means of averages.
With the MSI Kombustor graphics test, the GPU temperature is up to 69 degrees Celsius, and the fan runs at a decent 2.010 rpm. The power consumption of the test configuration is 297.6W; Calculated in the highest value.
Still using the MSI Kombustor graphics test and boosting the fan speed to 3,390 rpm, the GPU temperature drops to 59 degrees Celsius (14.5% lower), but compensates for high fan noise, significantly affecting around.
COMMENT
The above test results show that the midrange Zotac graphics card easily conveys all tests under the Test Lab scenario built at full HD resolution with the highest graphics setting. In addition, the GPU’s “pushing” GPU clock and RAM higher than NVIDIA’s GTX 660 Ti standard also helped the graphics card achieve better results in tests.
The difference between the mid-range (Zotac 660 Ti AMP) and high-end (Zotac 670 AMP) graphics cards is evident through the results of tests and games at full HD resolution and set of graphics level tallest. This is understandable because the number of ROP units, L2 cache and memory controller of GPU GeForce GTX 660 Ti significantly lower than the GTX 670.
