After the initial baby steps, LG moves very strongly into the mobile audio market as users get used to the TONE headphones and XBoom speakers. Therefore, the Korean electronics company feels confident enough to go deeper into the high-end True Wireless headset market with the new TONE Free FN7 pair. With a somewhat higher price tag than its predecessors, is this pair of headphones worth the spending?

Much more advanced, but the FN7 is still just a pair of TWS In-ear headphones, so the box is still very small, holding it almost in the palm.

The accessory kit of the headset is also quite basic, with two rubber buffers and an additional USB Type-C charging cord. One point is a bit strange that the headset is black, but the charging cord is white!

The charging box of the TONE Free FN7 is no different from the FN4 or FN6 pairs when it is designed to be round, neat, and somewhat similar to the makeup box of the girls. This charging case provides 21 hours of use for the headphones and will be reduced to 15 hours if you use a feature new to LG products: active noise cancellation ANC.

And this is the pair of headphones that we are analyzing and evaluating today. The FN7 still follows the general design direction of TONE Free products and an In-ear headset with a long ‘tail’ down, bringing the microphones closer to the user’s mouth to increase the quality of conversation, especially when listening. Used on busy roads with lots of traffic.

Looking a little deeper into the charging box, we find a special feature of the FN7 that has been ‘borrowed from the FN6 pair, which is the UVNano light. This light will work ‘underground’ every time the headset is charged, eliminating germs and bacteria deposited on the rubber cushion of the headset to help users protect hearing health in the next use.

The outside of this pair of headphones is a touch screen, with the ability to control music, adjust volume, receive calls, and adjust between active noise cancellation and crosstalk (Ambient sound or hear-through).

So we will evaluate the part that people expect the most; what makes the FN7 different from its predecessors is active noise cancellation. The FN7’s ear cushions are quite sturdy when used normally, firmly clinging to the listener’s ears. So the passive noise resistance (natural noise cancellation) is also quite good; in indoor conditions, we also do not need to use extra ANC to consume the battery.

When activated, the FN7’s ANC active noise cancellation can block outside sounds at an average level, in the form of ‘softening’ the sounds of speakers and vehicles continuously, but cannot be completely blocked. Everything sounds like a pair of headphones from brands that have more experience with ANC.

When I have not experienced the sound quality of the TONE Free FN7, I still think that the company will keep the bright and balanced sound quality of the previous FN4 and FN6 pairs. But until the first song was played with this pair of headphones, this judgment became completely wrong, when with the FN7, the company equipped a new, rich sound quality and added a “quite” amount of bass.’

The bass has significantly more volume, both in the sub-bass and mid-bass, making the sound quality of the FN7 darker than the FN6. In the Berimbass song, we can hear each drum sound emerging in the ear, with much more flesh and skin. In its software, there is also an EQ Bass boost for those who like this band, but I think that by default, this band has enough volume and prominence, so it should make room for other bands to show.

The sound quality is darker, so the vocalist of FN7 is also built in this direction. The voice of female singer Fiona Fung in “A little love” is no longer standing right next to the listener’s ear, but a little bit back, in return, it has a better thickness than the duo FN4 and FN6, so it is not ‘underdog ‘ when standing next to the bass, there was a lot of increased volume. The high-mid part has been trimmed, no longer as high as the FN6, with the advantage that it will be easier to listen to in the long run, but in certain songs with sopranos, it will be less prominent. You can use the Immersive EQ for those of you who listen to many vocals, which will increase the high-mid range to make it stand out more.

The two bands below have increased thickness; then surely the treble will have to be sacrificed to the stage! The overall sound is no longer bright but has turned to the dark direction; the treble is also reduced in brightness to match, most easily seen in Trance songs with a bright treble that emerges continuously at the sound border. Like the other two bands, the British Meridian EQ sets will be able to ‘save’ you if you feel the treble is too weak, more specifically, EQ Treble Boost.

Complete, comprehensive, but still have things to upgrade

TONE Free FN7 will “take the torch” of its FN6 pair to become the new flagship TWS pair of the Korean electronics company, accompanied by active noise cancellation and a richer, stronger sound. Overall, this pair of headphones is worth considering when they do not lack any features, nor do they have a “fatal” defect.

But in future products, perhaps LG will need to increase battery life and further develop ANC active noise canceling technology because the version integrated into FN7 also stops at just the level. OK, not comparable to the “big guys” like Sony, Huawei, or Apple!
