Asus is gradually entering the Gaming Gear market with high-end Gaming keyboards, mice, and headsets with the high-end design of the ROG brand. Asus ROG Falchion is the latest mechanical keyboard with a layout design for those who like compactness and mobility recently introduced by Asus.

It can be seen that Falchion is provided with a set of accessories that are not too many, but enough. Especially the polycarbonate protective case will be mentioned in the next section.

Design

Not the keyboards with the classic Fullsize or Tenkeyless layout, Asus also follows the current trend by turning the Falchion into a keyboard with a mini layout. Not the usual 60%, but a 65% layout with full navigation arrow buttons with other function buttons. This layout is much easier to manipulate than the usual 60% types.

The frame of the Falchion is designed with sturdy plastic, at the bottom of the keyboard is designed with a quite typical Asus ROG logo. At the top, the high-end is represented by an eye-catching aluminum plate. Overall, the keyboard is quite light, still retaining the high-end and luxurious features inherent in ROG-branded products.

To add to the high-end part of the keyboard, Asus equips on the left side a small led strip, with a pretty good function of displaying the battery level according to the available divisions. Not only that, this is a touchable part whose purpose is to adjust the volume in windows. This function is quite useful, but for some people who have the habit of putting their hands on the side of the keyboard, it will be a bit inconvenient because this touch is quite sensitive, it is easy to mistakenly touch, and will cause a little discomfort when using.

Asus is also equipped with a Type-C connection port following this current trend, next to that connection port is a toggle switch for wireless mode, and there is also a magnetic slot used to store the USB receiver which is quite convenient, it is very difficult to lose it when attached here.

The key design of the Asus ROG Falchion uses the ANSI standard layout, however, it is quite strange that the length of the Space key is only 5.5u compared to the usual 6.25u standard size. This will lead to the team playing the keycap it will be difficult to play the whole set because the Space button is off. Speaking of keycaps, Falchion uses the PBT Doubleshot keycap set, with the font set also having a bit of ROG style. The highlight of the keycap set is on the ESC button with the ROG logo printed above. This is a small detail that in fact, the writer does not feel very good about. Because Asus could have given away a keycap with a separate ROG logo and led it, it would stand out much more than printing the black logo to highlight the ESC word through the led.

Practical experience

With a 65% layout, the Asus ROG Falchion offers quite good mobility when it can be carried around easily. The included case that we talked about at the beginning is quite cool, it is made of plastic with a metal imitation design that looks very nice and luxurious with the ROG logo as an accent. Inside it is a layer of anti-slip rubber. This case can also act as a dustproof keycap and can be a case to protect the underside of the key when in use.

As for the led, of course, Asus’ strength is still Aura Sync RGB with a lot of accompanying effects, users can easily adjust right on the key or on Armory Create software.

For wireless use, it feels very stable because it is using a wireless connection, not Bluetooth, so the delay is almost imperceptible.

The main part is about the feeling of typing Falchion’s build quality is quite good with this metal plate design, even if the design is open to the switch, the writer feels quite solid when typing, but less prone to damage. The loose phenomenon in the switch foot is often seen in some other types of keys. Not to mention the use of the Cherry MX RGB switch for a rather smooth feel.
