Corsair has been introducing new products that support iCUE LINK technology since the company unveiled its iCUE LINK smart component ecosystem which enables users to build PCs and connect components through a single cable. The company has introduced various iCUE LINK compatible products which include PC cases and AIO water coolers and custom water cooling kits that show significant design and performance advancements.

Corsair has developed a cooling ecosystem which provides efficient solutions through their iCUE LINK fan system which features optimized airflow technology and strong magnetic bearings and smart temperature sensors that operate through a single cable connection.

The Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB delivers all essential beginner components for the iCUE LINK ecosystem while it brings the latest Corsair cooling technologies to high-performance systems which require advanced cooling solutions.

Does the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB provide a different installation method and usage process compared to standard fan systems? The answer to this question will be answered through the testing process conducted by Biareview.com.

Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB delivers strong performance while maintaining a compact design. The Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB package displays its traditional gold and black color scheme through its box design that shows all essential functions and includes the iCUE LINK ecosystem logo and important cooling specifications.

Upon unboxing, the Corsair fan assembly appears somewhat more angular than typical fan designs, noticeably tapered edges instead of the traditional “clamp” design between two square faces, and optimized space for the LED light diffusers.

Although a small detail, the LX120 RGB series features rubber pads at the four screw mounting points, offering improved noise absorption during operation by eliminating some of the contact sound between the fan and the case.

Inside, the “Starter Pack” includes all the necessary accessories for easy installation, including an iCUE LINK hub, power cord, cables for connecting the fans to the mounting brackets, and a set of white-painted QuikTurn single-turn screws.

Upon closer inspection of each fan, the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB appears to have omitted the common 4-pin PWM connector and ARGB lighting control wires. Instead, it features connectors similar to “charging ports” located on the sides.

Unlike many traditional fans that connect to the motherboard via two speed and lighting control wires, along with multiple combined fan wires, the unique feature of the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB lies in its ability to connect fans with a single wire to the iCUE LINK system. This provides a simpler PC building experience without complicated wiring, allowing for centralized control of lighting and cooling through a single software application.

Furthermore, the iCUE LINK ecosystem offers the ability to connect a wide variety of components, from pre-built water cooling systems to compatible cases, simply by using a series connection instead of having to connect each component to a corresponding port.

While this is a strength, it’s worth noting that because the iCUE LINK ecosystem uses proprietary connection standards, fan control and lighting management are entirely dependent on the iCUE software – which is currently only supported on Windows. Therefore, the ability to control or optimize fan speed via third-party software, or even “tweak” it in the BIOS, is a drawback to consider for gamers who want to simplify their PC setup or use other operating systems like Linux.

In terms of cooling capabilities, the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB fan system features AirGuide airflow technology and Magnetic Dome bearings for efficient airflow concentration, low noise operation, long lifespan, and minimal vibration. Optimized for static pressure, the fan system is best suited for cooling radiators in water cooling systems, although it can still deliver high performance when installed in a PC case.

The Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB can operate at PWM fan speeds up to 2400 RPM for high-performance cooling, or be completely switched off via Zero PWM mode to eliminate noise when the system is only handling light loads.

Corsair’s LX120 RGB series features up to 18 ARGB LEDs running along two inner and outer loops, offering unique lighting effects such as a “Time Warp” mode, full customization options, and linking between setup zones via the iCUE software.

During installation, the fan assembly unexpectedly revealed some small but relatively sophisticated design details. For example, while the connection between the two fan sets may already be secured by separate mounting clips, each fan also features magnets for easier installation.

In addition, the iCUE LINK hub is equipped with magnets for hard-to-reach locations such as in Mini-ITX cases, and Corsair has included pull tabs on the iCUE LINK connectors for quick detachment.

In summary, the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB can be installed in a variety of locations thanks to its optimized static pressure and powerful performance – from on top of the case for decoration and additional airflow, to on the most demanding radiator setups of water cooling systems.

In addition, the fan set offers valuable design, lighting modes, and convenient installation and connectivity features of the iCUE LINK ecosystem, combined with several minor upgrades for an enhanced user experience.

However, the Corsair iCUE LINK LX120 RGB comes with a price tag that isn’t exactly cheap for a mid-range fan system, causing many gamers to think carefully before purchasing.
