DESIGN AND FINISHING
Hilidac atom Pro is extremely compact in size and weighs a mere 6g. Inspired by the shape of an atom, that’s why the shape of the Hilidac atom Pro is nearly circular. However, to optimize the user experience, Hilidac has tweaked a few details: cutting out the part of the hole to make the jack stick better and make the end of the cable run out to increase durability.

The body of the Hilidac atom Pro doesn’t have any control buttton, only the Hilidac logo with concentric circles like electrons moving around the nucleus. And one of those electrons will light up when the Hilidac atom Pro is active. The color of the indicator light will change according to the resolution of the music file being played. A very interesting and equally sophisticated detail of Hilidac.

Go to the product finishing section. I personally do not overestimate the complete details of the Hilidac atom Pro. It stopped at quite a level but was not really perfect. The main body of Hilidac atom Pro is crafted from sharp CNC machined metal and good surface treatment. However, it seems that the two pieces of metal are stuck together so they do not overlap completely and leave a small gap.
Plastic parts in the wire and jack protection switch, there is still excess plastic. Even if it’s a little, but with a small technology product like the Hilidac atom Pro, it’s still hard to ignore. Aside from the downsides, the plus point of the Hilidac atom Pro is that it feels quite solid with the umbrella-wrapped conductor. The jack is also wrapped in seasoned metal. The contact pins on the Lightning connector are gold plated carefully.
CONFIGURATION
Hilidac atom Pro is equipped with a DAC/ AMP chip from ESS with codename ES9281C Pro. This is the most advanced chip in the audio decoding chip line for the USB Dongle solution and ESS connector. Thanks to that, Hilidac atom Pro is extremely compact but capable of decoding a lot of advanced audio formats. Dynamic range up to 118 SNR and super low distortion of 0.0003%.
The Hilidac atom Pro stands out with its ability to decode the MQA format. This is an audio format that has many times the quality of a normal CD. This format is usually supported on advanced Streaming software such as TIDAL, Nugs.net or XIAMI.
Currently, only 4 manufacturers are certified in this world, including Hilidac | Audirect.
Hilidac atom Pro uses 3.5mm audio output. The power measured on the Hilidac atom Pro announced by the company is also quite impressive, 60mW at 32Ohm. The company also claims the Hilidac atom Pro can work with headphones with impedance up to 600 Ohm, but for years of headphone users like me and you, it’s only theoretical.
EXPERIENCE AND SOUND
In this article, I only have on hand the version that uses the Lightning port of Hilidac atom Pro to test and evaluate. The Type-C version will be updated soon.
Using the Hilidac atom Pro is exactly the same as using a switch cable, just plug and unplug without installing any software. The startup speed of Hilidac atom Pro is very fast, it takes less than 1s that you can use.
A small note that I discovered when using on iOS devices. Hilidac atom Pro will only activate when the headset is plugged in. This smart feature helps you save a lot of energy for the phone or device you are using. Hilidac atom Pro will also automatically stop the music when you unplug the headset. However, this is probably an NSX error when removing the headset from the Hilidac atom Pro, the device will simultaneously disconnect from the phone. You are required to perform the Hilidac atom Pro unplugging operation for the next use.
Hilidac atom Pro does not generate much heat when operating, it does not run like iBasso DC01 or Cozoy TAKT C.
In terms of sound quality, I conducted a Hilidac atom Pro test paired with BGVP DM6. The MQA music source from TIDAL Master is played via iPhone XS Max.
A note for those who use your iPhone to play music. Only DAC/ AMP models that support the MQA standard can bypass music from iOS and play music at high bit rates 24/ 96kHz. Typical DAC/ AMP types will be downsample to 16bit/ 44.1kHz or 16bit/ 48kHz.
The first impression is hilidac atom Pro for a very quiet and clean background. Not appear any significant hissing. Must pay close attention to see a soft buzz when stopping/ playing music. This is understandable due to Hilidac atom Pro’s automatic power-off feature when stopping the music to save battery power.
The typical sound of Hilidac atom Pro is bright, not much color, focusing on details.
The bass range of the hilidac atom Pro produces just the right amount, well-controlled, is neat and has a solid construction. Bass beat quite naturally, not too smooth too.
The mid-range help moderating thickness and is also very neutral, neither warm nor cold. The female voice expressed through the Hilidac atom Pro sounds better than the male voice because the high-mid section is lightly pressed so the female voice becomes more flying with the high notes. One thing I dare to say for sure is that with the Hilidac atom Pro, the details in the song are pushed to a very high level, different from the sky with the default Lightning switch cable. Especially when listening through TIDAL Master. The Hilidac atom Pro will reveal mercilessly in the recording, so you should consider when using good quality headphones and recordings.
The treble strip of Hilihac atom Pro performed quite impressively. Up high, crunchy and loose. The low-treble seems to be slightly pushed up, making the cymbal sound sharper. If you are a treblehead then I think you will love the Hilidac atom Pro treble strip.
The soundstage of the hilidac atom Pro is not very large, but it still feels comfortable and comfortable. The singer’s voice is in the middle of the stage, neither back nor back. The instruments in the music are well separated and rearranged into the right position in the stage.
