The OnePlus 10 Pro, from the enhanced camera to the stunning display and glossy feel, will put up a fight with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, just not at that exorbitant price. But it’s hard to say which one would take the honors, firstly since OnePlus has not fine-tuned the productivity aspect, and secondly, it does not fall in line with Samsung’s new update policy.
Functionally, the OnePlus 10 Pro stacks against the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, undercutting it by several hundred dollars. Starting at $899 (at the time this review was written), OnePlus’s offering costs considerably less than $1,199 for the Samsung S22 Ultra. The OnePlus 10 Pro isn’t the only one; the other contender, Google Pixel 6 Pro, has the same price point of $899 as the OnePlus 10 Pro but has a fantastic camera.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is said to be up for sale since April, although it was launched way easler abroad, in China, setting the presale price at $899 for an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. But with the advent of OnePlus 10T, the price of the flagship device has been slashed by OnePlus. The OnePlus 10 Pro is now available at $799, down from the original cost. The other version is the 12GB/256GB, which sells at $869 (all prices at the time of writing this review and subject to change).
To go a bit more save, the OnePlus 10T starts at $649 and has a faster chipset compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro, although the camera performance is bound to be lesser on such a cheaper device.
Design
Over the years, OnePlus has improved the design of its phones, but the OnePlus 10 Pro is one of the more stunning designs than that of the OnePlus 9 Pro. Our review unit is the Volcanic Black which has soft touch material on the back. One feature you’ll love about the new design is that it’s now fingerprint-resistant-something you couldn’t say with OnePlus 9 Pro that launched earlier.
Moreover, it reflects an all-new camera module design taking cues from the Samsung S22. The whole array very much merges into the frame easily, much like the cropped border of Samsung Galaxy S22. Made from ceramic, OnePlus 10 Pro’s camera module looks durable and sleek, much sleeker than most phones that were launched this year.
The alert slider is one feature common to all OnePlus phones, starting with the OnePlus 2 and present even today with the 10 Pro. Apple has a similar hardware switch on the iPhone, which we haven’t seen on any other Android phones. The quick mute vibe on the OnePlus 10 Pro definitely wins some brownie points. This is one setting that I personally love, and I commend OnePlus for keeping it alive; it shows that the old design language of the company is still alive. And that’s a good thing, especially when the slider is such an extremely useful feature.
Having used other OnePlus phones, especially post-OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 10 Pro feels premium. Weighing just 7 ounces, it’s very light to hold in a single hand, 3 inches wide, and you never have to stretch your thumb too far to reach any part of the screen.
From your perspective, the OnePlus 10 Pro is narrower and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. To summarize, OnePlus has innovated by designing a phone that is friendly to hold despite its large size. The 10 Pro’s optical in-display fingerprint sensor is very much faster and responsive than the slow fingerprint sensor found on the Pixel. Basically, it is fun to hold and use.
The 6.7-inch size is undeniably massive, and the OnePlus 10 Pro is no exception to this. It happens to bear a 1440p LTPO OLED panel, sweeping across the long edges in a subtle curve. The aspect ratio of 20:9 is slighter on the higher side compared to the displays on the Samsung S22 Ultra and the Pixel 6 Pro, but perfectly matches their flagship 120-Hz refresh rate. Under the direct sunlight, OnePlus 10 Pro’s screen can be said to be not as bright when compared against the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s screen, but it brightly illuminates well during use, even outdoors.
Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus up front, Gorilla Glass 5 at the back: the 10 Pro has them all. OnePlus appears to have taken hints from the Samsung playbook to design a metal camera housetop that seems integrated into the side rails of the phone. They could be ripping someone off, but at least they are cribbing off the right classmate.
Second-generation LTPO technology allows the 10 Pro display to modulate the refresh from 1Hz to 120Hz according to whichever content is being viewed. You can also select your resolution between FHD+ and QHD+ for battery conservation purposes.
With the OnePlus 10 pro display, you enjoy watching videos and playing games. The display features a 3216 x 1440 or 2K resolution with high peak brightness at 1,300 nits. There is a new algorithm that OnePlus introduced, which learns how bright you like it in different environments, which adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly, whether you do it manually or not.
Such as gorgeous overall displays in the OnePlus 10 Pro. I’d be tempted to say that this phone has the best display we’ve seen yet on an Android phone-if only the Galaxy S22 didn’t exist. Camera
The OnePlus 10 Pro has three rear cameras; the flash sits inside the fourth cutout on the camera bumper, at least it doesn’t house a boring monochrome sensor or something like that. The rear camera hardware hasn’t had any major updates (although some improvements were made in software) from the OnePlus 9 Pro, but it has doubled the resolution for the selfie camera.

That said, this is an excellent shooter in OnePlus 10 pro but cannot be recommended over equally priced rivals if the camera is what you need in a smartphone. A good measure of the fun can be had with the main camera on the 10 Pro. The shots are all very colorful, couched in natural vibrant shades with bright depth in the close-ups and yet just the right amount of detail for wider shots.
On perhaps the most incredible account is ultrawide, with a 150-degree field of view-very wide for a lens, and thus OnePlus 10 Pro offers a ‘fisheye’ style mode. This might interest some people a lot, but you’d have to use it to see if you would ever go back to it.
Standard ultra-wide shots can be captured, but I don’t think you’ll use all those high-resolution ultra-wide shots. The images are nice and surprisingly without distortion, even if the lens is in use, but you’ll find some over-zoomed images.
The zoom camera features a decent range of 3.3x for a telephoto lens like this one, but several flagship models with periscope lenses have offered 5x to 10x zoom. And 8MP for a phone sensor isn’t really great either. The photos look good at this level of zoom, but by the time you reach the upper limit of 30x, they do begin to look rather grainy.
Again, it is best to stick to standard photo mode for a 32MP f/2.2 camera and lessen the blur on Portrait shots manually. The video can be recorded up to 8K, but that would involve dropping the resolution to 1080p when employing some AI features like AI stabilization or colorization -which somewhat defeats their function for mobile filmmakers who want to shoot in high-res 4K nonetheless.
The OnePlus-Hasselblad partnership remains strong; 2021 makes for the second hosting of OnePlus flagships draped in camera branding all over the phone body and of course, marketing materials. That partnership has produced a couple of modes: a tweaked-for-OnePlus Pro mode, which is better than any Pro mode offered by any other camera phone maker-territory-wide; and XPAN mode, for capturing text box images with sweeping perspectives, much like Hasselblad’s actual XPAN camera.
We have raked through a couple of stuff, which is our job, and we are glad that there were no deal-breaker ones here. These are just evidence that the OnePlus 10 pro camera experience is falling short of the rivals, especially the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which captures pure sharp shots.

Performance and Software
The OnePlus 10 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset: a most powerful chipset for Android devices since it was launched. It has an 8GB/128GB RAM option, and another variant with 12GB RAM/256GB storage will come later. The processing power thus offered is worth application for any everyday processing.
The collection is 5G-ready too; the OnePlus 10 Pro is like every other flagship smartphone in 2022. It’s a sub-6GHz 5G, however, so don’t expect super-fast millimeter-wave (mmWave) 5G as most consumers might not have an issue with that. It will support low- and mid-band 5G for T-Mobile and Verizon users, but the 10 Pro is incompatible with AT&T 5G, and it doesn’t seem that support will be added in the future. That is a huge miss on the 10 Pro, especially when you consider that any consumer would have to go around without full 5G to use it on AT&T. Full 5G support across the major carriers with no restrictions is offered by the Samsung S22 Plus and Pixel 6 Pro.
The phone comes with Android 12 but topped with the company’s Oxygen 12 OS as well. OnePlus merged with its sibling company and the two companies promised a unified codebase sharing; so, now it seems that OnePlus’ OxygenOS software is behaving too much like that of Oppo’s ColorOS. This merger will allow them to roll out software updates much faster at being somewhat slower in this regard by OnePlus.
The new OxygenOS has gone long the way of the old, but everything about the OnePlus 10 Pro is a boon to this phone. The UI is actually rather clean and resembles Samsung’s ONE UI, but some Android traces are bolted down within this whole thing that approximates Google’s vision for Android. But the overall feeling has a lot to do with ColorOS. That’s not bad.
As for the audio, two stereo speakers are found on the phone and are quite excellent in terms of forming a sound that fills a medium-sized room. However, it doesn’t have a 3.5mm port that allows the connection of your wired headphone; therefore, you would need to get an extra wireless headphone – maybe the Sony WH-1000XM4 – if you want to enjoy music or a movie while you travel.
Battery Life and Charger
Battery life is a bit disappointing on the OnePlus 10 Pro: it does not impress, and does not disappoint either. This is likely the standard for nearly all premium high-end phones under the same price range.
The good side of the phone is that it lasts and survives on a full charge for almost a day, but, in no case, can any more than that be expected; this is definitely not a 2-day battery. However, it gets better when compared to the Galaxy S22 Ultra even though both packs the same 5,000 mAh battery capacity and also has 1st-generation Snapdragon 8 chipset.
Sure, the 10 Pro has that massive 5,000mAh battery, and it makes more sense that such a configuration comes with a large bright display, 120Hz refresh rate, always-on display, powerful processor, and always-connected 5G. With all this, you can pretty much punch in a day on a full principal.
At Least with Fast Charging
Now, that is subjective depending on where you are, though. Most countries worldwide get the OnePlus 10 pro variant with 80W charging, which should completely charge in a maximum time of around thirty minutes-good and fast. There’s a charger inside the box.
However, in the United States, the charging of the phone is only up to 65W. The reason for this is because of different power supplies and the fact that OnePlus has a slightly different charging feature with its phones. This may sound a little like a downgrade, but do keep in mind that, even in the US, rival phones by Samsung and Apple do not go very fast.
In all areas, however, wireless power is the same at 50W, which is pretty fast. Besides this, it includes reverse power sharing, which means that the OnePlus 10 Pro can be used like a base plate to charge other devices. Comment
There is much to be excited about in the OnePlus 10 Pro, from its great stance as an everyday user to everything else. Nice looking and feeling, good software, not a bunch of applications you don’t require, and pleasant to use-how a phone should really work. OnePlus has taken another approach with the flagship offering, and the result is remarkable in every aspect. It feels like a product that knows exactly what it is and for who-as much better than the 9 and 9 Pro.
However, it is difficult to sell that phone when the Pixel 6 Pro is already available since the cost is the same yet provides complete 5G on every carrier and much better camera performance. The Samsung Galaxy S22, while being a bit more expensive, carries a much better camera system, has wider 5G support, and promises an extra year of OS upgrades, so you can spend that extra $100.
