The Realme Buds Air 2 which we purchased in 2021 turned out to be our best decision because the earbuds delivered excellent active noise cancellation performance while maintaining high-quality sound. We decided to evaluate the newest version of the brand’s popular TWS earbuds after they released the latest edition. Our weeklong experience with Realme Buds Air 6 enables us to present our complete evaluation of the product.
The Realme Buds Air 6 which represents Realme’s newest product in its AIOT line features advanced technical specifications that aim to provide exceptional sound performance. After using these earbuds for about a week, we achieved high satisfaction with their entire performance which included sound quality and noise cancellation and battery life and design.
Unboxing:
The Buds Air 6 don’t look too different from their predecessor. The device has a pebble-shaped charging case that feels comfortable to hold. The case exterior features a matte metallic finish that prevents dust and fingerprints from sticking to its surface. The device includes a Bluetooth pairing button together with a USB-C port which is located on the bottom section of the device. The Buds Air 6 come in two colors: Forest Green and Flame Silver. The silver variant appeals to us more because its orange inner lining creates a visually striking effect.
The box includes:
Realme Buds Air 6 earbuds with charging case
A pair of small and large ear tips
User manual
USB A-C cable
The charging case has a lightweight design that remains intact when the earbuds are inside. The system achieves this weight reduction because it uses all-plastic materials which provide IP 55 certification for dust and water resistance. When you open the charging case, a bright neon orange color will greet you. The orange inside the case creates a design element that combines with the gray exterior paint to enhance the overall appearance. The case looks more attractive when we leave it open at times.
The earbuds use an in-ear design which features textured white ear tips. The earbuds display a matte gray color which matches the case but only covers their front half. The ear tips use an extended design which allows them to reach deeper into your ear canal, thus improving passive noise cancellation. The accompanying app suggests that users should push the items deeper into their ears for optimal fitting. The first few times of using this product will create an uncomfortable feeling, but your body will adjust to it.
The tips provide an additional benefit because they maintain a strong fit, which prevents ear tips from falling out. The product ensures your safety during both hectic workdays and packed bus commutes.
The charging case needs a silicone case which buyers should use to protect their device from scratches and damage, thus ensuring its long-term resistance while preserving its visual appeal.
The Realme Buds Air 6 use Bluetooth 5.3 together with Google Fast Pair for their connectivity features. The user needs to open the case which contains the earbuds and then press the reset button located at the case’s base in order to connect the device with their mobile phone.
The device provides no support for Microsoft Swift which enables fast Windows PC connections and it does not permit users to connect with two devices simultaneously. The missing features from the device will decrease its price but at the same time multiple earbuds exist that provide all the available connection methods at similar costs.
The entire week we used these earbuds showed no problems with their wireless connections. The device established a connection with our phone immediately after we opened the lid following the initial setup. The overall experience provides users with dependable performance which remains consistent throughout usage.
realme Air 6 True Wireless Earbuds, 50dB Active Noise Reduction, Hi-Res Sound, LHDC, 12.4mm Dynamic Bass Driver, 6 Mics Clear Call, 40H Battery, Bluetooth 5.3, IP55 Water Resistance – (Green):
Sound Quality:
The Realme Buds Air 6 provide guaranteed sound quality as their most important feature. The Realme Buds Air 6 show off their best feature through their high-resolution audio certification which works together with LHDC 5.0 high-resolution audio decoding. The earbuds have 12.4mm titanizing drivers which produce loud and precise audio. Dynamic Bass Enhancement technology needs to adjust bass strength through automatic adjustments which use sound source data to maintain constant sound quality throughout all frequency ranges.
The primary focus now shifts to analyzing sound quality. Most budget earbuds use bass-heavy tuning because people prefer listening to loud bass sounds. The sound quality gets ruined because the bass tuning causes the earbuds to lose their normal sound balance.
Realme has equipped these headphones with special features which enable you to discover all your favorite music and sounds in brand new ways.
The first day we used the product we selected Hi-Res mode to listen to Beyond Desolation from The Last of Us Part 2. The first minute of the song presented a hidden musical element which we discovered as it transformed the emotional feeling of a sad song. The same pattern applied to the songs which we tested because we listened to Hip Hop and Pop and Rock tracks which we normally enjoy.
The separation of sounds between instruments is quite clear. The system begins with bass-heavy mode but you can change it to original mode through the companion application to obtain better audio quality. The midrange range displays vocal sounds while the treble range of the audio system remains highly visible. The Volume Booster feature enables users to enhance vocal performance in their songs.
The bass of the headphones is quite good. The Pure Bass option in the EQ settings provides a moderate and enjoyable amount of bass, but not to the point of overpowering other frequencies. Or you can switch to the Deep Bass option for an extremely powerful bass. There’s also a Dynamic Bass option, but it doesn’t make much of a difference.
Of course, you can pay more for a better experience, but if we only consider the sound quality, we think these earbuds are well worth it.
Microphone Quality:
The Realme Buds Air 6 are equipped with a total of 6 microphones, 3 in each earbud. In our experience using them for commuting to work and wearing masks on the way back, they were quite good. None of our friends and family reported any microphone issues during calls.
The microphones worked well even when we were in traffic. However, we had to speak louder when moving through the bustling street markets in the Thanh Cong residential area or sometimes had to pull our masks down.
Overall, we didn’t encounter any microphone issues when using them in most situations.
The Realme Buds Air 6 headphones provide Active Noise Cancellation 2.0 technology which cancels out 50 dB of sound. The system offers an extensive 4000 MHz noise reduction range which provides users with intelligent functions that automatically adjust ANC strength according to their surrounding conditions.
The noise cancellation system performs best when users encounter loud sounds which occur during public transportation and street traffic. The system uses its intelligent adaptive noise cancellation function to adjust noise reduction based on environmental conditions which helps achieve maximum noise control without disturbing user comfort. We used them at the Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro station while listening to music at 30% volume which made it hard to hear people speaking and we even missed important station announcements that informed us about the upcoming stop.
People standing very close to you will make their voices audible. We considered this to be a safety measure. You will hear jarring sounds like screeching tires or nearby car horns. The Smart option in the Noise Cancellation settings defaults to Medium which plays back sound from low-noise environments.
The Transparency mode enables you to hear everything that people around you are saying. The mode made human voices sound fake which forced me to remove the earbuds from my ears. The Voice Enhancement option improves the situation but we found the results to be insufficient.
Realme needs to develop software updates which will enhance Transparency mode. The company does not issue regular software updates for its earbuds according to their current update schedule.
Touch Controls:
The touch controls of the earbuds provide limited options for users to customize their input settings. Users have three available actions while they cannot use another action to reject calls or adjust volume settings.
Double tap: Play/Pause/Answer incoming call
Triple tap: Play next song
Press and hold: Switch between ANC noise cancellation and Transparency mode
The touch-sensitive area is quite small, a tiny groove at the top of both earbuds. We used to touch the grooves but we failed to contact them during one or two needed taps to achieve our planned goal. The manufacturer decided to discard the complete earbud body touch activation system because they wanted to use different product designs.
Battery life:
The Buds Air 6 demonstrate outstanding battery performance. The first day proved difficult for us to use because we wanted to empty their battery power. We used the headphones at maximum noise cancellation while High Resolution and Voice Enhancement features operated with volume set to 50%. The battery showed 70% remaining power after we used the device for 2 hours.
The manufacturer states that the 58mAh battery powers each earbud and the 460mAh battery powers the charging case. The setup enables users to listen for 6.5 hours on a single charge and 40 hours when using the charging case.
Companion App:
The Realme Buds Air 6 need you to install the Realme Link application which serves as the essential software for all Realme products. The application is available for download through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store which users can access based on their mobile device.
The previous version of this application which we tested required users to create an account for access after installation. There are situations when users face difficulties with account creation and login process but the application will sometimes log them out of their session. The problem has existed since several years ago and we have been waiting for Realme to provide a fix.
The application will detect your earbuds as soon as you establish a connection with your device. Your account will link to the earbuds that you connected with. Users can change between various operational modes while using the functions which those modes provide.
The application allows users to check the remaining battery life of both their earbuds and charging case through its interface. Users can activate Hi-Res audio while choosing their preferred EQ settings and turning on Game mode while testing their ear fit and using Mindflow mode to modify their controls.
The application provides more than 10 audio tracks which users can use for their exercise, work, meditation, and napping activities to establish their ideal sound environment.
The user interface provides straightforward navigation because every option can be easily located. The EQ mode option allows you to establish a personal equalizer when the existing presets do not meet your needs. The Realme Buds Air 6 app functions well for this device, and users who own other Realme products will recognize the application.
Should you buy the Realme Buds Air 6?
The Realme Buds Air 6 provides excellent audio quality which makes it one of the best earbud options available for less than one million VND. The company demonstrates actual value through its Hi-Res audio support because the feature improves the listening experience. The design team must start from scratch because their current work requires fundamental enhancements which they need to achieve. The touch area on the earcups needs special attention from the team.
The Realme Buds Air 6 provides users with a total high-end audio experience. The TWS earphone market recognizes its high-resolution audio decoding and advanced noise cancellation and extended battery life and minimal delay and intelligent design as its main competitive strengths. The Buds Air 6 stands out as an ideal option for music lovers and gamers who require high-quality sound together with user-friendly features.
Caution:
People should be careful about using TWS earbuds because they provide immersive audio yet become unsafe when used for long times. People who listen to loud sounds for too long will develop hearing damage which will progress as time passes. We recommend practicing safe listening habits by keeping the volume at a moderate level and taking frequent breaks to give your ears a rest. Your hearing health is paramount, so remember to prioritize responsible listening habits.
