The design is attractive yet offers optimal size and weight for its users. The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 displays an advanced design which combines premium elements with gaming-focused architectural features. ASUS dedicated significant resources this year to develop both the outer appearance and internal components of its products. The new generation of ROG Strix SCAR 15 offers a distinct appearance from its 2022 predecessor through the addition of rear LED lights and U-shaped underbody lighting.

ASUS maintained most design elements from their previous generation product, but they shifted all connection ports and charging port locations to side areas in order to enhance cooling system performance. The gaming setup requires additional setup time because of this minor disadvantage, yet the performance and cooling system improvements create valuable benefits. The chassis maintains its strong aluminum alloy construction while the top area uses transparent plastic material to display the internal components. The product contains multiple plastic components yet maintains its solid and sturdy construction which makes it easy to handle because its weight remains stable at 2.5kg without the charger.

The 2023 ASUS generation provides users with two Type-C ports which include one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port that supports DisplayPort/Power Delivery/G-SYNC and one Thunderbolt 4 port that supports DisplayPort/G-SYNC. With PD support, you can purchase a smaller 100W USB-C charger to use the laptop outdoors instead of the included charger. The 16-inch version proves to be better than the 18-inch version because it weighs below 3kg when including the charger.

High-Quality 16-Inch Display

The ROG Strix SCAR 16 features a 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR display which delivers exceptional visual quality. The current display size of 15 inches has become standard, making it simple to switch to larger screens because ASUS has improved their laptop display technology.

The first noticeable upgrade is the thinner bottom bezel compared to the SCAR 15 2022 which now enables users to experience better viewing space. The company has added a webcam to the new device design whereas they previously worked on removing this component from their products. The new device design maintains almost identical dimensions to its predecessor while providing superior display performance and the small benefit of maintaining your current backpack after upgrading which eliminates the need for a new backpack that was necessary when changing from a 15-inch model to an 18-inch model.

The ROG Strix SCAR 16 display operates at an actual resolution of 2560 x 1600 which maintains a 16:10 aspect ratio and displays content at a 240Hz refresh rate while achieving a 3ms response time and showing all colors within the DCI-P3 spectrum. The screen functions as a Pantone certified display that supports HDR content through its premium Mini-LED display technology. The system operates with excellent display performance that reaches a maximum display brightness of 1100 nits which creates a comfortable viewing experience for both indoor and outdoor environments. The screen provides excellent gaming performance through its high-resolution display and smooth operation which results from its fast refresh rate.

The system features its most advanced design through its current usage of Intel Core i9-13980HX processor which operates with 24 cores at 5.5GHz speed and its features as the most advanced CPU for laptop computers. The machine includes an RTX 4080 GPU which provides sufficient performance for gaming and work because it includes Mux Switch and NVIDIA Advance Optimus and other features.

The machine showed complete compatibility with Biareview’s games together with its ability to handle Cyberpunk at Ultra settings which produced stable performance between 30-40 FPS until players made adjustments to achieve 120-140 FPS.

The maximum settings in Gundam Evolution restricted the game to 120 FPS but the game maintained stable performance which showed frame rates between 118 and 120 FPS.

The ROG Strix SCAR 16 handled League of Legends without any difficulty because the graphics card consumed only 60-80W of power which made it impossible to reach its full performance potential.

Optimized Cooling

The system generates high temperatures because of its powerful components but ASUS has developed cooling systems which operate efficiently throughout their entire operation. The new design introduces three cooling fans which replace the standard two fans found in most gaming laptops to keep the GPU and VRAM at optimal temperatures. The system maintains stable operating temperatures through a combination of 7 copper heat pipes which work together with Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal thermal paste that applies to both the CPU and GPU components.

ASUS created a new internal design for their equipment which includes an operational system that distributes heat throughout the chassis to achieve better cooling results. The equipment now operates by taking in air from below while it expels warm air through three outlets which include the rear and left and right sides of the system.

The main unit base received a small enhancement through its new design which includes higher anti-slip rubber feet that prevent sliding. The device now draws in air through its new bottom design which performs better on table surfaces because of this improvement.

The tests showed that games operated smoothly when temperatures stayed between 86 to 90 degrees Celsius which increased to 92 degrees Celsius and 95 degrees Celsius during intense action scenes but then returned to normal. The device maintained proper performance during extended periods of operation because it did not experience crashes or overheating problems which would cause delays. The keyboard area generates heat during use but MSI Afterburner monitoring software shows that the temperature stays within safe limits throughout long gaming sessions.

The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 laptop delivers outstanding performance through its premium design which creates an exceptional gaming experience. The device provides suitable performance for work and entertainment because its specifications fall short of SCAR 18 requirements but its smaller size enables better performance. The 18-inch version is quite large, heavy, and bulky, making it more suitable for those who prefer to use it at home. The ROG Strix SCAR 16 stands out as the best option between the two versions because it offers better portability according to Biareview assessment.
