amazon SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH ACTIVE 2 reviews
With Galaxy Watch Active 2, Samsung is continuing to upgrade fitness and fitness tracking tools as well as adding some new features such as translation and video viewing. Most intriguing, especially for Samsung loyal users, the company’s characteristic benzel ring will return on Galaxy Watch Active 2.
The control ring of benzel is back
Samsung debuted the Galaxy Watch Active without a bezel, which shocked many people, as navigating the watch would become a lot easier with rotation. But Samsung has omitted it to make the Watch Active series simple and adding a navigation ring will increase the weight of the device, and also increase the price. Samsung has found a solution to replace the navigation ring, Watch Active 2 is equipped with touch navigation ring. So you can scroll through widgets and view notifications by swiping around the watch face. Samsung also creates a tactile feedback effect that makes users feel like they are rotating physically.
In the past, I used to use the physical navigation ring on the Galaxy Watch rather than the touch ring. But since moving on to the induction ring, it has given me a sense of novelty and physical feedback gives me a feeling of faster response speed. Recently, I have reorganized my watch face, I leave the most commonly used applications between 2 and 3 rotations. The arrangement on Tizen OS is very easy and I no longer have to rotate continuously to find the application I need.
Screen and controller
Control operation on Watch Active 2 becomes easier thanks to the larger watch face. The previous version of the watch face only 1.1 inch size makes it quite cramped and with the 1.2 inch screen of the Watch Active 2 40mm, although just a little bit more, but also makes the screen more spacious.
Samsung also makes the buttons on the right of the watch bigger and has more borders to make it easier for users to press. This button helps you return to the previous page, or quickly to the application is set by holding down. The small button below is used to return to the main page or turn off the device. The default version of Active 2 supports Samsung Pay, but I personally find the music player control feature to be more practical.
The slight change in the back button doesn’t feel very different. However, this button is quite easy to touch and it will pause the tracking application when exercising if you fold your wrist slightly deep, such as when you excersice or yoga.
Improve motor tracking
What I like most about this watch is the upgraded movement tracking sensors. Samsung uses twice the number of LEDs in the heart rate sensor to speed up the measurement. It is also equipped with an accelerometer with double the sensitivity of the previous version. While I can’t guarantee the accuracy of the sensors, the speed has actually improved. Not only was the sensor faster, but the sensor worked more accurately, as soon as I left my desk to go for a walk, the watch immediately displayed an encouraging message to me for doing so. Active 2 also has better motor recognition, which measures the first time I start walking, while other watches start measuring after I’ve moved 10. minute.
On the other hand, I like the way Tizen encourages users to start campaigning and automatically draw your activity graph. Still, I hope the workout tracker is more in-depth. For example, when I practice Yoga, it can only measure my heart rate and the total duration of the exercise. Meanwhile, competitors like Garmin have been able to track their respiration or stress levels when practicing similar subjects. In return, Samsung has integrated a coach to remind you to speed up or increase your stride to reach the goal. I really like this real-time reminder when walking, you should use it with bluetooth headsets so you can hear information better. The loudspeaker on the watch is quite small when in public environment, even when it is close to the ear.
But Garmin, Fibit in particular, as well as smartwatches running Wear OS in general, lack the integrated applications on Tizen. In addition to health monitoring features such as movement reminders, stress detection, calorie tracking and sleep tracking, Active 2 also features smart home control, car parking (like Grab, Uber, etc.). ), music player and messaging. You can even turn your watch into a PowerPoint presentation control device. Wear OS and Fitbit OS both support these features, but often require additional external applications. These features are all built-in to Tizen operating system.
Control music playback and entertainment applications
Samsung continues to improve the Tizen operating system from large to small. One of the small, but very useful, improvements is the login experience on the Spotify app. You only need to log in to your Samsung account and launch the app on the watch to use, you do not have to enter the password again. I was surprised by the simplicity that it brings, all I have to do when setting up Active 2 for the first time is to log into my Samsung account. Hopefully this feature will soon be applied to other apps on Tizen.
Samsung also created a new app that improves the YouTube and Twitter user experience on the watch, which is called Watch Viewer for Youtube and Watch Viewer for Twitter. I did not find these two apps on the Galaxy app store, hopefully they are already installed. Personally, I find watching a video on a watch a bit silly, but it can also be useful in cases where you can’t wait until you’re away from a crowded place like a train to pull out your phone. But to be honest, I still couldn’t think of a good reason to use this feature.
A new application that I am also quite impressed with is the My Style watch face customization application. The application will create some wallpaper patterns based on your photos. For example, you are wearing a light pink outfit, and you want your watch face to match this color. You can take a selfie and choose colors from your shirt. The application will recommend about 6 texture patterns based on the color you have chosen as a wallpaper. However, I personally don’t like these patterns very much and the colors on the watches are often darker than they actually are.
Performance and battery life
The good news is that you can completely ignore the My Style app and choose your own wallpaper as you like, it will not affect your experience on this Galaxy Watch Active 2 watch. This is a watch with good performance compared to the price, the battery life is about a day. But actually, I expected it to be better than that. Most wearable devices that do not run Wear OS have a minimum battery life of two days. In addition, the version I am using does not support LTE, if LTE is added, the battery life will be even shorter.
Those are all things that appeal to me on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, I personally find it to be a pretty good smartwatch device. At only about $300, cheaper than most of the Wear OS watches and the new Venu line of Garmin, but more expensive than Fitbit Versa 2. However, Samsung’s Active 2 can do more things than Fitbit Versa 2 and does not experience connection errors like Fitbit products. If you are looking for a smart watch to promote a healthier life and find a reliable partner for your phone, Galaxy Watch Active is definitely the choice for you.
