amazon AKG Y500 reviews
Open the box
As expected of a product that has won a great design award, the Y500 easily impresses users from the first contact.
Outside the AKG Y500 box, with a prominent red logo certified by the iF design award, the 33H battery life is also emphasized by the manufacturer.
Accessories include: 1 carrying case, charger cable and 3.5mm cable for users to connect when needed. All have pretty good quality.
The headband consists of a metal core, surrounded by a combination of plastic and rubber covers. Each ear has 10 tapping steps so users can remember the position that best suits them.
Volume control slider, Play / Pause button and virtual call, 3.5mm connection is located on the left ear.
On the right is the power on / off button, when you flip back and hold will activate Bluetooth detection mode. Next to it is the Ambient Aware button, the micro USB charging port.
AKG Y500 is an on-ear headset with not too big pad, using leatherette material for a pretty feeling of wearing.
Closed-back earphones with closed housing.
The feeling of wearing and the first impressions
If you are a young person, the Y500 will not only be a device to enjoy music, but it can also become a fashion accessory to take with you wherever you go. Sitting in a coffee shop or walking around with the Y500 will definitely be enough to attract every gaze from the opposite people.
It is the compact design, exudes youthfulness and especially high mobility is what makes this impression.
In its price range, the level of product finish on the Y500 is surprising. Although the designers have brought quite a lot of details, such as up to 3 joints and rotate on each ear, every detail is polished. Parts whether leatherette (on the pad), rubber (on the headband) or plastic and metal all feel high-class, rugged and reliable in every use.
You can also rest assured that these joints do not get caught in your hair – one of the problems with over-ear headphones. In addition, the weight of Y500 is about 230gam, there is no need to connect wires so the feeling of wearing continuously, even while moving is still quite comfortable.
Perhaps because of being born to serve the needs of listening to music anytime and anywhere of young people, AKG equips this product with a good feature called Ambient Aware.
The Ambient Aware button is located on the right earpiece, when clicked, it will switch to a special mode: reduce the volume of the currently playing music, and play the sound of the surrounding environment. This feature will be extremely suitable for those who are just on the road while wearing headphones, or do not want to miss the notifications from outside. A small minus point of this feature is that every time you press, the headset will emit a mode switch sound is quite large and prolonged, unfamiliar users may startle.
The AKG Y500 also has the ability to automatically stop music when the user removes it from the ear and continues to play when worn again, similar to many true wireless headset models currently on the market. However, during the experience, this feature did not work really well, sometimes still playing music when it was removed from the ear, so that the headphones will not automatically go into standby mode and must be restarted to continue use.
Another interesting point is that AKG Y500 has the ability to connect with 2 devices at the same time.
Experience using, sound quality
As mentioned above, the Y500 feels quite user-friendly. We simply open the box, flip the headset button, open Bluetooth on the phone or computer to detect and connect without any difficulties or interruptions.
The device I choose to use is the Samsung Galaxy A80 with Spotify or YouTube, using a wireless connection. In addition, you can also connect to another computer. Trying with the MacBook, the connection and control also went smoothly and perfectly. The thing is, because of its many buttons, users will take the first few times to get used to and remember the location of these buttons.
With the voice function, the microphone of Y500 works quite well, the ability to filter noise relatively. Even when you’re on the road, you can still hear and talk to your friends clearly and with minimal noise.
In terms of sound, the Y500 is in the form of headphones that allow “noise listening” similar to other headphones in this price range. Not quite strong in any genre, but any song through the Y500 can bring the feeling “adventure” for the listener. In addition, if you like listening to songs with vocals that bring sweet nuances, the Y500 is also fully responsive.
Although the housing is closed, the Y500’s soundstage is not too secretive. Try playing the live song of Adele’s Set Fire To The Rain on the Galaxy A80’s YouTube app, I can still feel the stage space when I wear the Y500 and turn on the music at about 70% volume.
Overall, the AKG Y500 is a headset with relatively good sound quality. Combined with impressive battery life, diverse connectivity and many smart features.
