The 1000x is a separate product line for high-end wireless headsets. Beside the WF-100X and the WH-1000X they have a product with more traditional design is the WI-1000X, wireless neckband headphones.

WI-1000X’s box is quite large, full with information and product images. The headphones comes with instruction, a zippered bad, an airplane jack, charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable and 6 pairs of ear tips. The ear tips are placed in a separate box. Sony fans must not forget the ear tips of the EX1000 with different types for different purposes. The WI-1000X’s ear tips has not many as the EX1000 but separated in two types: normal and soft for comfort.

WI-1000X has a necklace design that is very popular in Japan and Korea, with the advantage that the headphone housing can be reduced, so it feel comfortable and bigger the battery. WI-1000X has listening time for 10 hours. In addition, users can also  quick charge for 15 minutes and can use for more than an hour. The micro USB charging port and buttons are located on the left side of the necklace. The is also integrated vibration motor to signal the call.

The earbuds of the WI-1000X has 2 important technologies. The first one was hybrid diaphragms with a traditional Dynamic and a small Balance Armature. The Dynamic diaphgram has a high, created bass have the force but inferior to the lining Strip expressions in Balance Armature highly distinct and bright. By combining, dividing each frequency for each speaker, the headphones takes advantage of the strengths of both technologies. This is not a new technology, Sony has a specialist XBA-H using hybrid diaphragm, but WI-1000X is the first product of this technology in combination with wireless. The second technology is proactive protection, by capturing audio with 2 microphone side headset, WI-1000X can create reverse-phase audio to create quieter music space. Again, this is not a new technology. But with the new 1000X series, Sony completes it, takes it to a new level by using the app provied on smartphone, users can adjust, increase or decrease sound resistance fit for pressure (suitable for use in mountain or airplane). Plus, the unique features such as DSEE HX, LDAC, Hi-res reduces the compression, quality and linear audio from the source to the headphones. These features definitely make the user sastisfied. The sound of WI-1000X is quite rich, partly due to the bass. The bass sound is pretty much. The advantage of this bass is very good control, especially the sub-bass. The sub-bass has a lot, play very deep, but when playing it clusterd at a point, not spread to the two side of the ear so it doesn’t cause dark background and bleed. This control also helps the mid bass’ speed fast. Try Descente by Noga, the drum is rich, thick, high punchy but not too long. This speed definitely can’t catch up with metal but enough for pop, vocal, jazz, etc.

The Dynamic diaphragm  only play the bass, and The Balance Armature is for the mid and high. The mid of this diaphragm is quite unique: slim, bright and more vocal. Sony has been criticized for the XBA using this type of diaphragm because the mid lack vibrancy. But of course, the technology and the way the sound is tuned are far better. The vocal of the WI-1000X is quite bright, rich and real. Alison Krauss’ voice in Forget About It gives high detail, inspiration and neat. The point that WI-1000X is not good is that the high mid still have sibalance if heard with high female voice like Yao Si Ting or Celine Dion. However, it still acceptable not pitch like the previous XBA. The mid of the WI-1000X is ok, overcome the disadvantages of the previous product line. For better mid, they have to use more Balance Armature diaphragm with larger size which shouldn’t be too demanding on the WI-1000x

As mentioned, the treble is balanced by a Balance Armature. And this treble represents the true nature of this type of diaphragm. The sound high enough, not clustered at one point. The wind chimes, cymbal in Amber Rubarth’s Good Mystery is so detail. With  treble and deep bass, the coherence of the WI-1000X is quite poor, but still acceptable for a earphones that can play good at both. And this is the common stuff of Hybrid earphones
