View phone notifications on glasses
Phone requirements: iPhone 7 or higher or any Android phone.
You download Oculus’s app, just open it, tap Menu in the bottom right corner, then go to Devices. Here you can change your Headset Settings to enable Phone Notifications (the option will be between Controller and Developer Mode if available).
Once you’ve followed the onscreen instructions and paired your devices, you’re done. Using the phone app or your Oculus Quest 2’s settings, you can adjust the notifications you receive to limit them to certain apps and control how many you see.
If multiple people use the same Quest 2 headset, you can also set up multiple accounts so each person only sees notifications on their phone.
Cast what you’re playing on your phone or TV
VR makes for a pretty great gaming experience, but with the screen only visible to one player at a time, it can leave the friends next door largely unaware of what their friend is going through. Luckily, using the Oculus app, you can stream what’s playing in VR to your smartphone or Google Chromecast device.
To enable Casting while someone is using VR, start by opening the Oculus app and tapping the icon in the top right that looks like a headset with a Wifi signal coming out of it.
Then, select the connected headset you want to cast to and it will cast to – your phone or a nearby Chromecast.
Once this process is started, we recommend turning off the setting that makes headphone audio play through your phone or Chromecast – this option will show up on your phone’s screen.
It’s also a useful tool for introducing new players to VR. Because you can see what they see in real-time, you can guide them through the first steps without having to guess what problem they’re having or swap headsets back and forth.
Command by voice
You can navigate through Quest 2’s Menus using just your voice. First, you need to enable this feature. While wearing a VR headset, you can do this by pressing the “Voice Commands” button in the Quick Settings panel, double-tapping the Oculus button on your right controller, or saying “Hey Facebook.”
After enabling the function, you can issue different commands such as “Create a party,” “Change Guardian,” or “Open Beat Saber” and other commands you can find on the Oculus Website
Experience gaming with 120Hz refresh rate / Add a couch
This feature is currently only in the “Experimental feature” section because it is not completely optimized for all games. Not all VR games will run at 120Hz, but those that do look a lot better with the feature enabled – although you’ll also notice that your Quest 2’s battery drains a bit faster when it’s playing these games.
With the add couch feature, players can now mark where a couch exists in their physical space, which will create a virtual representation of that couch in Oculus Home, Quest 2 will automatically switch from room scale to static VR, or in other words, players will experience VR in 2 styles: Standing and Sitting. If you’re looking to take a quick break or switch to a new game, this is a much more convenient way to change your boundary settings without having to tweak them manually.
Re-center your perspective
While the tracking capabilities of the Quest 2 headset are generally very good, your movements can sometimes throw your position slightly out of place. Sometimes, the orientation of your play space may not match the game’s virtual play area
To fix either of these issues, you can quickly reset your view, and you don’t even have to leave the experience. It’s simple, just look straight ahead and hold the Oculus button on your right controller. A white circle will quickly appear in front of you and then you will see the scene change.
Track your fitness statistics
VR headsets like Quest 2 have become an important part of many people’s daily workout routines thanks to VR fitness games. Oculus Move is an app that lets you track your real-time fitness data like active time in VR and estimate how many calories you’ve burned. This application cannot be compared with other advanced applications but if you’re looking for a more conventional way to track your progress, the Oculus Move is the answer.
