amazon JBL QUANTUM ONE reviews
Following the series of popular gaming headsets Quantum 200 to 400, American sound company JBL has just launched two models of mid-range gaming headsets, Quantum 800 and Quantum One. In particular, Quantum One can currently be considered as JBL’s “final boss” in the gaming headset segment when it is favored by the company equipped with a series of technologies such as head tracking, reproducing 360 surround sound Quantum SPHERE 360 …
Design “muscle”, RGB LED covers everywhere
Similar to the JBL Quantum 400 that BiaReview recently evaluated, Quantum One also follows a youthful, close-knit style right from the box with JBL’s signature red-orange tone combined with mainstream purple tones.
Of course, due to being a flagship gaming headset, Quantum One’s box looks more “dangerous” with many graphic effects, eye-catching lighting, dense logo “show off” with outstanding features like Quantum SPHERE 360. provides head-motion tracking, 360-degree sound reproduction, position simulation, or Hi-Res high-quality audio support, active ANC (Active Noise Canceling) …
It is indispensable for the transparent shell inside so that gamers can comfortably “experience” preliminarily before deciding.
If in the JBL Quantum 400, I once said that the design of this headset is a bit “gentle”, but it has not exuded the fashion, personality required of a gaming device, with Quantum One everything is different. The ear bulbs are “muscular” more pronounced thanks to a series of embossed, angular, and strong details. The glossy surface is moderated, instead of smooth rough material, showing professionalism and high-class.
The ear frames, head cushions also have the same “muscular” design language. Even the details for the headset cord “exposed” to the outside instead of hiding also contribute to Quantum One having the necessary strength in a flagship gaming headset.
Adding to the “cool” Quantum One is the lightning-shaped RGB LED system, covering the entire earbud, “shimmering” more than just the RGB light in the Quantum 400 logo. LED effects are therefore also richer and more diverse, ready to help gamers literally “shine”.
Rich accessories
The price is twice as much as the Quantum 400, so it is easy to understand when the quantity of Quantum One accessories is plentiful and “genuine” than. The 2-way 3.5mm cable section integrates the volume control button and the mic on and off (there are also 2 buttons on the earbud but can only be used when connecting USB).
While the USB C to A cable is also equipped with a large-sized rotary controller to facilitate the balance of the volume in favor of Game or Chat, achieving Discord compatibility certification. This is a useful item for e-Sport gamers or streamers, helping them decide when to focus more on the game and when to listen to the sound of teammates.
Both 3.5 and USB wires are still covered with high-grade, solid anti-cut umbrellas, eye-catching orange polka dots, including small tabs in the connector for convenience and disassembly, clearly distinguish the two ends with 2 colors different shades of orange and black. The orange head for attaching to the source, while the black end to attach to the headset, is very convenient.
The length of the 3.5mm cord is still moderate (1.2 meters) which is suitable for use with phones, tablets, and game consoles like PS4 or Xbox One. Meanwhile, the USB C to A cable is up to 3 meters long, comfortable to use with a PC.
The microphone part has been detachable from the headset, convenient to move, and still allows to bend into near or far from the mouth if desired, the top of the microphone also has a filter pad, noise cancellation, and red LED lights signal when off-mic. However, unlike Quantum 400, Quantum One’s mic cannot be folded up, so it is a bit troublesome when not in use.
Notably, Quantum One also adds an equalizer microphone to optimize surround sound. The design of this mic is almost identical to an in-ear headset. Details of how this mic works will be discussed later in the article.
Effective ANC noise cancellation, the control button is equipped with “take the teeth”
The comfort of wearing on the ear continues to be promoted by Quantum One. Light-weight and the pressure of the earcup is moderate for long-wearing without causing ear pain. The sound insulation of these headphones is impressive due to the integration of active noise cancellation ANC.
As soon as you put your ears on, you will feel completely “isolated” from the outside world. All the surrounding noises sink completely, especially the sounds like the wind fan. Quantum One also includes a crosstalk feature called TalkThru, activated right on the button at the earcup, so you can still chat with people around you when needed without having to remove your headphones.
The ear cushions and head cushions are made of smooth, thick leather for added comfort. The earcups allow for easy width adjustment to a variety of levels, comfortably even for someone with a large head size like me. However, because the ear cushions are quite thick, they quickly cause heat and sweat when used in an environment of 26 degrees or more.
Like Quantum 400, all ports and buttons of Quantum One are concentrated on the left ear, convenient to use, and quickly adjusted during “battle”. There is a dial for volume increase or decrease.
Three buttons respectively from top to bottom act as active noise cancellation on and off ANC (press and hold to enable TalkThru crosstalk); rearrange the headphone position to the center (for head tracking) and finally turn on and off the mic. When you press and hold the mic on/off button for about 5 seconds, you can turn on and off the RGB LED system. The dials and buttons on Quantum One are smooth, responsive, with nothing to complain about.
Accurate head movement tracking, reproducing sound direction vividly
As mentioned, JBL Quantum One supports 2 connections, traditional 3.5mm or USB. To be able to fully exploit the features of this headset, you will need to connect it to your Windows computer via a USB port. If only the 3.5mm port is used, features such as RGB LEDs, Quantum SPHERE 360 surround sound, head motion tracking, ANC noise cancellation will not work.
Once connected to a computer, a message will appear inviting you to install JBL Quantum Engine software. This is the set of tools needed to enable JBL Quantum SPHERE 360 7.1 surround sound, as well as tweak a variety of head tracking, audio, RGB, or mic settings.
Currently, JBL Quantum Engine does not support macOS because it is not the optimal platform for the game. After the download and installation are complete, you will need to restart your computer to complete the setup.
JBL Quantum Engine’s interface is modernly designed, vivid with many eye-catching effects featuring gaming. Thanks to the ability to track head movements, when you tilt your head back and forth, the image of the headset in Quantum Engine will also move along very interestingly. The motion tracking sensitivity is truly impressive, with almost no lag. All head movements from tilting left and right, leaning or tilting head forward, or even turning the head 360 degrees are recorded in full.
Most notably, the Spatial Sound, which hides the JBL Quantum SPHERE 360 feature, helps to emulate the optimal 7.1 surround sound for FPS games. Here, JBL also allows you to fine-tune extremely detailed head size or body height and has a set of sound direction testing tools available for you to customize to best suit your “taste” sound.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, Quantum One comes with a special calibration microphone shaped almost like an in-ear headset. Its effect is to optimize the surround sound best suited to the environment. To use this mic, you need to remove the regular voice mic, then plug the equalizer mic into the mic port on the headset. Continue to place the top of the orange mic in the left ear then put the headset on this mic.
Quantum One will emit some sound for this microphone to record, as well as check the noise of the environment. You will need to avoid loud noises, including keystrokes, during sound calibration. After finishing the alignment of the left ear, the headset will continue to ask you to change the mic to the right ear. The whole calibration process if calibrating will take about 5 – 10 minutes.
After calibration is complete, Quantum One will create a new setting for you to listen to. You are completely free to choose whether to keep the old settings or use the new settings according to your preferences and “sound” taste.

The sound quality exploded, the soundstage overwhelmed
Like with my brother Quantum 400, to test the “power” of Quantum One, I will, in turn, try with popular titles such as PES 2020, FIFA 20, Call of Duty: Warzone, PUBG, CS: GO, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Need for Speed Heat and Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown.
Still a strong, bass-rich sound characteristic of JBL headphones, but the amount of bass is significantly increased, creating boom, blood and fire, vividly reproducing gunshots, and bombs in both games. action, shoot guns like Warzone, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, acceleration in Need for Speed Heat, or Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown. Quantum One’s bass notes go deeper, firmer, but never cause ear fatigue and overwhelm other sound bands.
Quantum One’s treble high band is bright but not bright, and the light sound makes it easier to detect footsteps and gunshots in the game. Mid-range reproduces softer tones, recreates game scenes such as mines, warehouses, precise factories … In these scenes, the sound types will be better separated instead of the gamers themselves will be stunned first by the echoes coming from here.
Quantum One’s soundstage gives a more overwhelming feeling than Quantum 400, vividly demonstrating the vast scenery of stadiums filled with audiences in PES 2020 or FIFA 20, well portraying the majesty when there are tens of thousands of people are cheering, cheering.
Sound is the strong point of Quantum 400 and on Quantum One, JBL has raised the bar with JBL Quantum SPHERE 360 technology. In which direction is the enemy moving from which to have a reasonable combat plan, which is essential for FPS games. In particular, thanks to head movement tracking technology, just tilt your head slightly to the left and right, the sound will be significantly clearer, just like when you need to listen to where a real-life sound is emitting.
However, when you first use this technology, you may feel the sound direction is not very clear in the game due to the sound source coming from both ear channels, it will take some time to get used to.
Quantum SPHERE 360 is more suitable in survival games with wide maps like PUBG or Call of Duty Warzone. It is a good advantage when determining the direction of the enemy to hide, crawl, and camouflage in trees and walls.
Whereas for games with narrow maps and fast and continuous reflexes such as CS: GO or Deathmatch / Team match modes with mini maps of other games, DTS Headphone X 2.0 technology proves more suitable.
Quantum One’s microphone provides good voice capture and noise filtering capabilities, making in-game conversation convenient and clear. A red LED on the top of the mic also makes it easy to see if the mic is on or not.
With music or movies, Quantum One also offers complete processing capabilities. The ability to track head motion combined with Quantum SPHERE 360 creates an enjoyable movie-watching experience, with wider, more vivid sound, especially with war movies, blockbuster scenes with majestic scenes.
When listening to music, Quantum One’s bass range is ready to make you sway and explode with EDM pop songs, electronic music is making a storm on top trending YouTube like How You Like That, Stay Gold. ..
The midrange is pushed close to help the singer’s voice become softer and clearer. The high band is still the strongest point on Quantum One when it tends to be bright but not blinding, helping instruments like the violin to be beautiful, vocal, and airy, with good speed.
Summary
Quantum One is aimed at professional gamers, try-hard, really serious about the gaming path that we pursue, and need high-quality support equipment to unleash their full strength. Head tracking gives a big advantage, helping Quantum One reproduce sound that’s lifelike. While the design has got the fashion needed to convince gamers to have personality.
