amazon Deadfall Adventures reviews
Surely when we mention the tombs, treasures, historical legends, deadly pitfalls … we immediately think of the “famous” series – Indiana Jones, the duo of illustrious director-producer Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
That is movies. What about the game industry?
Equally as much when we get to see a “version” of Jones in the Tomb Raider, Uncharted is extremely attractive and charismatic.
However, let’s leave Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, or Uncharted aside and go back to 1885 when writer HR Haggard released the novel “King Solomon’s Mines”, about hero 300-710 exam dumps Allan Quatermain in the liberation of the people of Africa from oppression of slavery.
The work has achieved great success in the social field and also the character Allan Quatermain was the inspiration for George Lucas when he created Indiana Jones.
Allan Quatermain has appeared in more than 14 works by HR Haggard and even his name has spread to the modern entertainment industry, with Sean Connery’s role in the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).
Equally agile when he wanted to create a “different version” of the Allan Quatermain character like the way the game village did with the image of Jones, the game designers at The Farm 51 created the game Deadfall Adventures, plays the player as James Lee Quatermain – the grandson of Allan Quatermain, in his quest for the “The Heart of Atlantis” antiquity with archaeologist Jennifer Goodwin.
Spending together through the frozen arctic lands to the burning desert in Egypt, James realized that the Nazis – who intended to usurp the treasure, were not the only concern. Mummies, hanging traps, supernatural forces … will make James realize that the rumored stories of his ancestors are not as “crazy” as he used to think.
The gameplay of Deadfall Adventures depends on two main factors: shooting and puzzle.
However, both of these arrays are poorly executed (if not trivial).
Shooting array learning from Call of Duty but does not make the player feel “perfect”.
There are two main types of opponents the player will encounter in the game – Nazis, and mummies.
For the Nazi soldiers, Deadfall Adventures became a conventional shooter in which players just fired-reloaded, did not have any special abilities like Max Payne’s “Bullet Time” often commands teammates like in Spec Ops: The Line, which makes the confrontation scenes against Nazi soldiers extremely boring.
For the mummies, Deadfall Adventures has the style of Alan Wake when it forces the player to use a flashlight or lure the enemy into a place with light that weakens the enemy, thereby ending the opponent with a few bullets. The scenes of encountering the mummy are not much better when you only need one more step “shining the flashlight” before firing-reload. Occasionally some new types of mummies will appear (boxers or big guys are more able to withstand the blow than normal mummies), but the way of “handling” them is not too special.
Deadfall Adventures also made a mistake “taboo” for any shooting game: armory lacks balance. The game owns 10 – 15 different types of guns, from pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, and rifles … bearing the mark of World War I.
However, the guns possessed power, recoil, sound… completely the same and they were only distinguished by… appearance.
James Lee Quatermain’s “branded” revolver, though with “infinity” bullets, is extremely “useless”, it is too silly to have to spend 10 bullets just to knock out one the brash soldier, while two regular pistols can do the same with only 4 bullets.
The puzzle segment, which is promised to be the “kick” of Deadfall Adventures, is designed very poorly, carelessly, and lacks creativity. The puzzles in the game follow a common, less diverse pattern and often revolve around using giant mirrors that reflect light, rotating symbols carved on rocks, or shooting gold circles to temporarily turn off the hanging trap.
The puzzles in the game are extremely simple, so easy that the writer has to “learn” with the lighting game for 5 minutes just to realize that … I think too deeply when the way to solve the puzzle is easier than expected much. If you “miss” a puzzle, try opening James’s notebook for hints, each with an occasional “saintly” or even pictures is … blatantly a way of solving, helping players avoid having to reason hard! Deadfall Adventures’ action side is not only poor but also “overcome” by the silly AI system (artificial intelligence) most ever.
The Nazi soldiers liked to run out of cover to … “1 on 1” with the player, they also could attack at “impossible” angles, making the writer think that the enemy was can “bend” projectile like Wesley Gibson character in the movie Wanted.
The A.I of the mummies was even worse, they only knew two things to do right: play a game of catch with the player and react when the light shone on them. The writer had an odd situation when in front of a mummy and behind the crowd was chasing, instead of blocking the way, the mummy … stood looking and “merged” with the crowd behind. when both sides ran past it.
The design of the game screen of Deadfall Adventures has a few points that are not good. Most are designed quite meticulously and in detail, but they are too linear and “force” the player to stay in a confined space.
The pitfalls and puzzles in the early game are quite interesting, but perhaps because The Farm 51 has “run out of ideas”, the later the game becomes more monotonous and lifeless.
Also, many times players will have to solve a series of different puzzles, go through many areas that can be sure that “only in but not out”, but after a while, they come across a group. Nazi soldiers were in a basement one that had been taking a long time for the player to break into.

The player can find many treasures during the game and use them to level up through three branches: Path of Light (upgrade the flashlight), Path of Life (upgrade the character’s stats like Blood or stamina) and Path of Warrior (improves combat ability). However, the updates in the game are quite redundant because Deadfall Adventures is not, after all, a role-playing game, the character James Lee Quatermain was too “powerful” from the beginning of the game and these upgrades only make the game become so it’s easier.
It is also worth mentioning that the treasures are sometimes carefully protected, sometimes placed “openly” in the middle of the road or even … thrown into a dark corner like a discarded item, which This again proves the lack of ideas in creating the scene of The Farm 51.
With such an “Indiana Jones” background and the main character has a close relationship with a character considered a “heroic image” in literature, The Farm 51 can completely create an engaging and dramatic story.
However, the game tries to be an Uncharted first-person action version and ignores all the advantages in the context that I have achieved.
Actually, after “clearing” the game, the writer still wondered: What power does The Heart of Atlantis possess and why does it cause many forces to jump into “tearing up” it? Why did the Nazis know in advance and greet James at the Arctic Base? Why are the mummies revived at such timing? There are so many “why” questions that the game asks during the game but in the end, do not adequately explain it! Think about it, if you and your girlfriend got guns in the head by a Nazi and his teammates and forced you to find the antiques for him, 12 hours later, he tells you … betray Nazi Germany and wants to find antiques with you, do you believe him or not? James’s answer would be “yes”!
Also, to keep the essence of “Quatermain” more present, The Farm 51 decided 90% of James’s sentences were in the form of… sarcasm. James lacks an inspirational voiceover from Nolan North and deep jokes, James’s words throughout the game give the feeling that he does not care for his life or his companion, and especially a lot of the words were not released at the wrong time, at all. The supporting characters are not much better, Hagen does not bring the “dangerous” feeling needed by a villain. Goodwin owns the lines “stupid” to the point of understanding and the voice is similar to the voice of the character … Marge Simpson in the animated film The Simpson.
At present, players will have very few opportunities to participate in online battlefields. After being released for nearly a month, the multiplayer part of Deadfall Adventures has been and is falling into a “premature death” state.
The game supports Dedicated Server, but the probability of finding a room is very low. Not only that, the system automatically detects the game room (matchmaking) sometimes makes the game “dirty talk” when looking for players.
Up to the present time, the writer has only participated in a single Team Deathmatch match with only … 4 players!
Developed on the Unreal Engine 3 platform, Deadfall Adventures’ graphics impress with the exciting and unique locations throughout the game. The journey in Deadfall Adventures can make players feel like they are sitting on a train traveling around the world and enjoying the wonders for 8 hours.
Yellow-tinged pyramid in the Egyptian desert, majestic snowy mountains on a military base in the Arctic, ancient ruins deep underground, or mines engulfed in the crimson color of lava jelly… all make the adventure in the DA surprising and epic. If only the character’s facial movements and his body parts were taken care of, the DA’s look would be perfect!
The “Survival” part is a bright addition to the game. Similar to the “Horde Mode” of Gears of War or “Zombie” of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Survival puts players in the midst of dozens of mummies fighting to “kill” prey.
The maps of the Survival section are brought from the single-player, but they have been tweaked and added some small elements. The game screen contains a lot of hanging traps and players can take advantage of them to “punish” the opponent, creating a unique playing style.
