amazon EARFUN AIR PRO reviews
Coming from a very young brand, Earfun Air Pro unexpectedly offers a great balance between design, sound quality, and price, with active noise cancellation (ANC). If AirPods or other high-end headphones are out of your reach, Earfun Air Pro can be an alternative with almost the same quality but at a much more attractive price.
EarFun might be an audio brand you’ve never know. That’s right because EarFun was only founded in 2018, with headquarters in Shenzhen, China. After “launching” with two true wireless headphones, EarFun Free and EarFun Air, this brand have recently launched upgraded versions, EarFun Air Pro and EarFun Free Pro, notably Active Noise Canceling (ANC).
EarFun might be an audio brand you’ve never knowMasculine design, comfortable to use
Since AirPods were released in 2016 and ushered in a new era of wireless headphones, Apple’s design with a long headphone foot is still very popular. It is learned and customized by many headphone companies thanks to the microphone in Closer to the user’s mouth will increase the quality of the conversation. With EarFun Air Pro, the company has customized straight, square cuts combined with dark gray tones to create a masculine look, not round and soft like most true wireless headphones today.
The outside of the headset is the EarFun logo; the imprinted tone is similar to the surrounding background. The microphone on the outside serves the active noise cancellation feature ANC (the writer will talk more about it below) and the touch receiver. Inside, the EarFun Air Pro has a built-in accelerometer sensor to detect and recognize the control operation, so the user will need to tap “force.” It takes some time to get used to the traditional touch, but EarFun Air Pro will limit accidental touches.
The control operations of EarFun Air Pro are not very much, if not narrow. The company removed all one-touch operations to limit the error of pressing further, can only advance to the next song (no reverse), play/pause, call virtual assistant, and switch between modes. Normal, Transparent, and Noise canceling. There is no volume up and down, and users can’t customize the keyboard shortcut because EarFun Air Pro doesn’t have an accompanying app.
The earbud part of the EarFun Air Pro has a “bulky” shape quite similar to AirPods Pro and Huawei Freebuds Pro; the earphones are about 45 degrees diagonal to put them deeper into the headset, increasing the effectiveness of active and passive noise cancellation. The wearing feeling of EarFun Air Pro is very comfortable; even though the ear tip is only silicone, not a sponge, it can be worn for many hours without feeling stuck, tired and there is no condition that the ear will slip out when exercising. The headset has a built-in proximity sensor, so it will automatically stop/play music when putting it in / out.
Speaking of sports, the EarFun Air Pro is IPX5 water-resistant. This number is inferior to its predecessor EarFun Air (IPX7); maybe the active noise cancellation feature forces EarFun Air Pro to make a trade-off. IPX5 is still enough to ensure safety against sweat when you exercise or go in the rain without any problems.
EarFun Air Pro’s charging box has a compact size, traditional clamshell opening, and a matte black painted surface that limits fingerprints. The rounded edges are comfortable to hold in hand or put in a jeans pocket. Above the cap is the brand identity of EarFun.
It’s so compact, but the EarFun Air Pro’s charging box has a capacity of up to 500 mAh, which can recharge the headset 2.5 times more, for a total listening time of about 32 hours. Users can charge the headset using the Type-C port (10 minutes of charging, 2 hours of music playback) or Qi wireless charging. Next to the Type-C port, an LED indicates the remaining battery level of the box.
“V-shape” sound quality, long battery life, active noise cancellation needs better.
The process of connecting the headset with the phone is simple and fast. You need to open the cover, and the headset will automatically turn on and connect to the nearest device. The two headphones can work separately, and as mentioned, the ear will automatically stop/play music when in/out the ear. EarFun Air Pro does not integrate aptX or aptX HD decoders because it does not use Qualcomm’s processor chip; only two popular decoders are SBC and AAC.
Active noise cancellation used to be a luxury feature only available on flagship headphones. Still, over time, they have become more popular and are available in products in the price range of $100. EarFun Air Pro for noise cancellation, as announced by the manufacturer, is up to 38dB, higher than the 35dB figure of AirPods Pro or Sony WF-1000XM3, which is hundred dollars more expensive.

In actual use, both the active noise cancellation and crosstalk of the EarFun Air Pro work as expected in this price range. EarFun Air Pro inherently limits a lot of noise with an in-ear design; when ANC is turned on, sounds such as chatting, typing, mouse, … in the office space will almost be lost annihilated. When worn on the street, the writer only hears the horn of the car nearby or the sound of big trucks and buses in the distance.
However, the headset appears “white noise” when turning on ANC without listening to music, which the writer did not feel when experiencing AirPods Pro or Sony WF-1000XM3. This headset does not control the noise level to suit the environment like on Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro or Huawei FreeBuds Pro; if you are not used to wearing it for a long time, it will cause ear fatigue due to pressure. In addition, the crosstalk feature for the sound into the ear is relatively small; often, the writer still has to lower the volume of the track to be able to hear what the other person is saying. Those are some of EarFun Air Pro’s points that need to do even better in the next version.
The EarFun Air Pro features 10mm drivers on each side, an upgrade over the 7mm of the previous generation, high-quality Composite drivers, and fine-tuned by Edifier, an experienced audio company (in fact, Edifier). There is a headset NB2 Pro that has almost the same design and features as EarFun Air Pro). With V-shape sound quality, the writer is impressed with the bass range of EarFun Air Pro: abundant, powerful, but not overdone. The overwhelming sub-bass makes electronic music more exciting; the mid-bass is neat and punchy, not buzzing like cheap headsets. You can feel every drumbeat in Imagine Dragons’ Believer.
EarFun Air Pro’s mid-range is round, the vocals are warm and full when high, but the violin or guitar acoustic has slight white noise; if the listener is not too careful, it may not be recognized. EarFun Air Pro’s treble range has good detail; the instrument is separate, jingle, and sibilance but not significantly.
The soundstage of EarFun Air Pro, like most true wireless headphones today, is narrow and not omnidirectional, sounding like it’s coming from inside the ear, not the surrounding instruments. A cozy feeling of a tea room, but this tea room only plays EDM, is the most reasonable.
In terms of connectivity, EarFun Air Pro is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Some true wireless headphones have begun to integrate Bluetooth 5.2, but most smartphones today do not support this standard, so you do not need to care much. During the experience, the connection quality of EarFun Air Pro proved to be stable, whether used in the room or on the street. However, the ear still has a delay of about half a second, which is why true wireless headphones are not often used to play games that need quick reflexes and should only be used when listening to music or watching movies.
EarFun Air Pro features a total of 6 microphones with a customized noise filtering algorithm. A quick test shows that the quality of conversation and recording is good, the voice is clear, there is still wind but not too much influence.
The battery life of EarFun Air Pro, according to the manufacturer, is 7 hours when active noise cancellation is on and 9 hours when turned off. In actual use, the writer’s headset gives the same battery life as EarFun’s claims. Plus the battery capacity from the charging case, you can listen to music comfortably all week without worrying about running out of battery.
Summary
Despite having a very “fun” brand name (literally), it would be wrong to consider the EarFun Air Pro as a product made “for fun.” With just $100, EarFun Air Pro offers the same values as high-end flagship headphones, and it should also be remembered that this is only the second generation of EarFun’s product line. If this brand can overcome some weaknesses in noise resistance and add useful custom applications, EarFun Air Pro will surely convince many discerning users.
