Sennheiser is one of the big names in the headphone industry, with many bold products that everyone knows and craves when it comes to mentioning. However, the company did not immediately follow the true wireless trend in the technology race like most other brands. Still, it was not until IFA this year that it officially launched its first product called Momentum true wireless (MTW). After years of intrigue, will Sennheiser bring us a product that makes their name shine? Personally and I think many other brothers are also very curious and want to experience this product.

Only within two years, but the concept of true wireless headphones is increasingly popular and known by many people. Companies race to launch high-end products and probably all take Apple’s Airpods as a standard for comparison. Most of the products on the market have the same price as Apple Airpods, but it is less in terms of features and perfection.

Perhaps for that reason, Sennheiser had to wait until now to launch its true wireless product. I’m very excited to experience it and curious what Sennheiser will equip with MTW to make them confidently set the price up to $300, double that of other true wireless products on the market.

1/ Design: high-end, well-finished, comfortable to wear.

MTW deserves to be among the most beautiful and comfortable headphones. The two faceplates are aluminum, and the Sennheiser logo is very impressive. I have tried many true wireless headphones on the market and confidently say that MTW is one of the most comfortable true wireless headphones available today.

Comes with the MTW is a charging dock that is both beautiful and compact. Before MTW, I used Jabra 65t and many others, but I rarely put the charging dock in my pocket but often put it in my backpack. Thanks to its compact size and its beautiful Design, since owning the MTW, I always take it with me every time I go out.

The charging dock has a cloth cover. USB-C for fast charging is also a bright plus. Total battery life is 4 hours for the headset and 8 hours if it comes with the dock. So in total, we have 12 hours of use, which is normal because Jabra products have a total usage time of up to 15 hours. However, we have fast charges in return, so we don’t have to worry too much. Next to the charging port, there is a battery indicator light; you need to press the small button next to it to know the battery status of the dock quite conveniently.

2/ Features: smart but not perfect.

The MTW has a touch, which is great. However, touching on a too-small faceplate surface is a rather difficult experience. You need to remember exactly seven different operations to play/pause, increase or decrease the volume, cycle through songs, and access the virtual assistant. It took me almost a week to remember all of these operations and still confuse each other from time to time. The point that makes it difficult here is that the contact area is too small; that’s why it happens often. Maybe need to use more to be smooth.

Sennheiser also provides users with a Smart Control application to control the headset. However, this application currently only has two features: on / off transparent hearing and EQ adjustment. The other on/off case is unnecessary because pressing twice on the right earbud is done. However, MTW’s EQ is quite good, and I will share more in the sound quality.

Sennheiser is also equipped with the ability to stop music when removing the headset from the ear automatically. However, they do not give the option to turn this feature off when some other products. Another minus point is that when I actively stop the music, the headset does not receive the command after some time when I want to play music again. These are software problems, so I think Senn will quickly update the product soon. Hopefully, they will also update many other attractive features like Jabra’s software that I have shared here.

MTW can receive calls and hear both ears. I like that because most of the true wireless products on the market today only listen to one side. However, MTW’s microphone is not as good as the Jabra 65t that I used. When you wear it on the street and ride a motorbike, the person on the other end can’t hear you. However, in a tight environment, the call quality is good, and the sound is very clear, perhaps because Senn is aimed at users who use cars and electric cars.

One of the advantages of MTW is that it is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and an aptX LL codec. Thanks to that, MTW is one of the rare true wireless headphones on the market today that can watch videos or play games on mobile devices without sound delay. Currently, the demand for watching videos or playing games is very much, perhaps understanding this, Senn has quickly equipped its products to reach more customers.

3/Sound quality: the best true wireless headset

I initially thought it would have the same sound quality as Momentum in-ear headphones with Momentum True Wireless. However, in my experience, MTW can be said to be at a markedly higher level of sound quality. Compared to the true wireless headphones that I have ever experienced, this is the best sound quality headset.

Great because this is a true wireless headset with spacious space and the best class. The space is spacious in width and depth, especially the ability to reproduce the stage very well like these high-end wired in-ears of this range.

Still the typical dark sound quality of Senn, the quiet background helps me hear many details that the previous headset models have never shown. In the previous true wireless headphones, I used the feature as the main and played the music as a secondary, and to enjoy the music; now, there is a product that can do this completely.

At the time of unboxing, MTW’s bass was quite large, and I was not satisfied. However, with the tradition of Senn headphones, burn-in is always essential. After about 50 hours of listening, now the bass is much better. The bass is not too deep, but the amount of bass is enough; tight is the good control ability that helps MTW fight a variety of music from blue jazz to EDM, rock. I often use Bluetooth headphones when playing sports, then EDM is indispensable, and I must say that MTW listening to EDM is very happy thanks to its spacious space, 3D, and detail. Many people who listen to EDM to the bass; listen to the sound effects of loud and small, far and near from many directions mixed, with bad headphones, this is just a mess, but with good headphones, these effects will bring excitement to the listener. Every time I turn on the Martin Garrix STMPD RCRDS album, I can’t stop listening to it.

When I’m on the road, my habit is to listen to rock. Because of driving, I often turn it on low to have less sad music and partially limit the noise. The true wireless headphones I used before when I opened it small meant that I only listened to the singer’s voice, but the drums or the guitar were all together. Because I also used True wireless headphones for a long time, sometimes when I want to listen to rock on the go, I use wired headphones through a Bluetooth receiver. Since holding MTW, it can be said that the joy of listening to rock while on the road has returned. The songs of Nightwish and Avantasia are shown by her sister very passionately, in detail, even though the volume is only about 30%. To do this, besides equipping a good driver, Senn must equip a delicious integrated amp for MTW.

Besides bass, many audio players are also fascinated with the mid-range of Senn headphones like HD650 or IE8. Later, Senn also had more innovative new products, but fortunately, MTW owned that charming mid-range. The mid sound is thick, warm, quite neutral, and has a seamless and flexible level. Male voices such as Andrea Bocelli, Barry White, or female voices like Alisson Krauss and Amy Winehouse are presented round and complete.

The highs are a bit gentle, with treb heads, perhaps not enough. Gentle means still enough for you to listen to most types of music, still have enough to listen to rock, good enough to show the high ranges of the violin in the Four Seasons, but sometimes in some parts, I think just a little more will be much better.

As for the EQ, this section is integrated into the company’s application, and you will probably find it strange when you first see the interface of this section. Normally, EQ will have presets available for you to choose from or, more difficult, the bars pull up and down, but Senn probably wants the user to have a newer experience, so he made the EQ of the product as a chart. If you want to increase or decrease the bass/treb, you have to draw to choose a satisfactory sound quality.
