The fairy tale of Lost in Random revolves around two sisters: Even, the game’s protagonist, and Odd, her older sister. They both grew up in a drab town called Onecroft, where the grown-ups had to spend their days sorting trash from the rest of the Kingdom.

Even is an 11-year-old girl and her only weapon is a slingshot used to shoot small pebbles. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t be able to deal with large enemies on her way to find her sister.

If you are a fan of the RPG genre, many people will think, “Ah, now is the time to fight weak monsters to earn money and level up, buy better weapons,” but Lost in Random chose a different direction.

The uniqueness of Lost in Random comes from Dicey, a live die that Even meets on his journey.

When battles begin, Even will use a slingshot to shoot weak points in the enemy’s body; these weak points do no damage. Instead, they will release blue crystals.

Dicey will collect these crystals for energy, and when full, Even will roll the dice with Dicey. The value Even receives – from 1 to 6 – will be used to draw battle cards.

For example, if Dicey lands a 2, Even will be able to use 2 points to draw a bow card – which turns the baby slingshot into a powerful weapon – or a sword card – allowing Even to use a sword made of energy for close combat with enemies.

The funniest element of Lost in Random’s battle mechanics is building decks of cards to create your style of play. Small changes to the deck can make a big difference to how the battle plays out.

The battle mechanism of Lost in Random is really interesting, but the battle process of the game still has some unfortunate limitations.
