To get the most accurate sound rating for the Sony MDR-AS21J, Test Lab decides to “dash” this compact headset for about eight hours with a variety of genres right after the box opens. Try connecting the Sony MDR-AS21J to the desktop via a 3.5mm socket on the ALC887 integrated soundcard that Test Lab still uses for testing before. Also with the Foobar 2000 v.1.0.3 music player software, Test Lab starts listening to some of the 16-bit / 44-kHz CD quality music available on the computer.
With a volume level of about 50%, the Sony MDR-AS21J has a fairly large output volume. Looking at some of my favorite albums is often heard as Johannes Linstead – Cafe Tropical 2006, Songbird CD1 – Kenny G, All My Loving – Jheena Lodwick, Feelings Vol.2 – Jheena Lodwick and Guns N ‘Roses greatest hit 2004, Test Lab found the Sony MDR-AS21J to be quite clear and light. However, the high range of the Sony MDR-AS21J is still not clear and light to hear at this volume level. Trying to reduce 10% of the volume of the computer, Kenny G’s saxophone renders somewhat smoother and quieter than the original. However, at this volume, the bass notes on the Sony MDR-AS21J were completely overwhelmed by the rest of the strips.
