amazon Canon PowerShot A3400 IS reviews
The Canon PowerShot A3400 IS is the first PowerShot camera to support a low-cost, mid-range touch screen.
Although a new representation of the Canon PowerShot A-Series cameras, but the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS has a slender appearance with colorful wings like the fashion camera IXUS of the company. The camera is quite compact (size 94.4×56.3×21,3mm, 141g weight) there are four versions of different colors of fashion are silver, yellow, red and black. Available at Test Lab is a bright yellow version of Canon PowerShot A3400 IS that looks very youthful with a cluster of black lenses prominently on the front of the machine.
Compared with the 8x PowerShot A4000 IS zoom lens (which was at the same time of release), the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS lens only supports Intelligent IS, 5x optical zoom (focal length Diameter 5 – 25mm) with maximum aperture F1 / 2.8.
Occupying almost the entire surface of the back of the machine is a 3-inch touch screen that supports a resolution of 230,000 pixels. The remaining area of the PowerShot A3400 IS is still designed using the physical controls as seen on previous PowerShot versions. Due to the integrated iSAP Intelligent Scene Intelligence technology, the PowerShot A3400 IS is not equipped with a hard button that switches between shooting modes. However, like other modern designs, the PowerShot A3400 IS also features a self-contained button to quickly activate this feature.
About the interface, the PowerShot A3400 IS also comes with a mini USB port for USB / AV Out connector on the right side. The bottom of the machine is the battery compartment of the NB-11L Li-ion Battery Battery and expansion slot supporting SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
Canon PowerShot A3400 IS is only equipped with DIGIC 4 image processor, 1 / 2.3-inch CCD sensor supporting up to 16-megapixel maximum resolution. With this internal power, Canon PowerShot A3400 IS can capture 4608×3456 pixel resolution and ability to record 720p HD at 25 fps. Included accessories include a wrist strap, battery charger, software CD and user manual.
Throughout the actual use, Test Lab found that the appearance of the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS is small, but very “hard”. The brushed metal surface on the front of the machine is modern and feels very solid when held in the hand. The physical button system on the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS is generally reasonably arranged, highly responsive and easy to operate. However, the power button of the machine is still slightly difficult to manipulate due to its relatively small size.
The first PowerShot camera is equipped with a touch screen, but Test Lab is not impressed with the display quality and screen sensitivity that the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS uses. The picture quality on the LCD is just average, the image color is slightly pale and the exposure is quite heavy. Touch screen operation is generally comfortable despite the “sensitivity” is not high – especially with the menu interface of the machine. However, you can be assured that Canon has the favor of selling it with a small stylus pen that can be attached to the wrist strap to control the touch whenever needed.
In addition to the “Smart Auto” shooting mode, the PowerShot A3400 IS also supports Program Auto mode and various Scene Selection modes for creative users.

Try shooting with the PowerShot A3400 IS in “Smart Auto” mode, setting maximum image resolution and good image detail. – Test Lab found that the machine has fast scene analysis and Sensible when moving from scene to macro shot. Also in this mode, with good light conditions, the PowerShot A3400 IS offers natural-looking color images, although details are not as high as expected. Setting the Auto White Balance on the PowerShot A3400 IS is generally okay in bright environments.
With portraits, the PowerShot A3400 IS is very responsive in identifying different characters. Flash works pretty well in 3m range at wide-angle or when the Lab Test portraits home.
The 5x optical zoom lens is generally adequate for general indoor and outdoor photography needs. The optical image stabilization system works very well when the Test Lab zoom reaches maximum focal length.
In tests with a variety of ISO levels (from ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600) to “Program Auto” mode, Test Lab was not impressed with the image’s noise cancellation capabilities. Even in good light conditions, with two low ISO levels (ISO 100 and ISO 200), the image has been slightly grained. At ISO 400, the image has a heavier grain noise and the image detail decreases dramatically. According to Test Lab, the best user should only set the ISO at 200 and use the machine’s built-in flash to get good quality photos in low light conditions.
The quality of the 720p video recorded from the PowerShot A3400 IS is generally average, quite a lot of the grain in the Test Lab shoots. The sound quality obtained from the built-in mono microphone still has a lot of background noise. Users should also note that the PowerShot A3400 IS only supports digital zoom while recording. And of course, the image will be “heavy” and reduce the granularity if you use this feature.
Although not suitable for low light environments, the PowerShot A3400 IS still fits well with the modern touch-sensitive user interface with low investment costs.
