XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Achievements

Rate this post

Without qualifying as just another expansion to the already critically acclaimed XCOM 2, the War of the Chosen adds a whole new array of features, enemies, and challenges. Thus, a lot goes into consideration for those willing to acquire every achievement in this expansion. This guide will cover all achievements in detail, with tips and methods on how to unlock them, and will provide an insight into the game mechanics that must be understood to complete the game at 100 percent.

1. Introduction to War of the Chosen Achievements

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen adds in excess of 20 new achievements; one for many walks of the game activity, including new gameplay features, mission objectives, and particular challenges tied to the Chosen – the new supervillains within the game. These are designed to test strategic thinking, application, and knowledge of the game mechanics.

2. The Chosen and Resistance Achievements

The War of the Chosen expansion features three alien overlords with new types of powers and new kinds of problems. The Resistance factions – freaking the Reaper, Skirmishers, and Templar – also form the central focus of this game. Several achievements are associated with interaction with the elements above.

A. The Chosen

“The Harder they Fall”
Goal: Kill all three Chosen.

Hints: The Chosen – Hunter, Warlock, and Assassin – will need a different strategy to be fought against. Counter their strength and exploit their weak points. To do that, you want to make sure your soldiers are equipped with the right gear, and never be afraid to retreat if a mission starts to go sideways. Also, keep in mind that the final encounter with any Chosen will be in their stronghold, so be ready for a big fight.

“Exquisite Timing”

Goal: Beat the game on Commander+ difficulty by July 1st.
Tips: This achievement is not just about defeating the Chosen quickly. Allocate your effort on your objectives, keep casualty numbers down in the Avatar Project, and use Resistance Orders to fill any gaps you might build into your operations. The better you are in the meta-strategy layer, the more rewarding this achievement will be.

“A Rival Silenced”

Objective: Permanently defeat one of the Chosen.
Tips: After many encounters with a Chosen, the game sometimes permits a raid on the stronghold. Use Covert Actions to reveal the stronghold’s location, then assemble your best team and go in to kill them for good.

B. Resistance Factions

“No One Left Behind”

Objective: Rescue a soldier who was captured by the Chosen.
Tips: From time to time, your soldiers get captured by the Chosen. To get them rescued, you must undertake a rescue mission. Rescue missions are tricky; make sure that your squad is well equipped and ready.

“Born in the Darkness”
Objective: Four kills from Shadow mode with a Reaper in one mission.
Tip: Shadow is a Reaper-only ability, allowing the attack to take place while concealed. Banish or sniper enemies from concealment to avoid being detected.

“It Takes Two”
Objective: Establish a level 3 bond between two soldiers.
Tips: Bonds form between soldiers as they take on missions together. The pair will have to be deployed very often on missions, finishing each one alive, to form the level 3 bond. The Training Center can be used to strengthen the bond and unlock powerful bond abilities.

“Circle of Psi”
Objective: Bring a Templar to max Focus, spend it, and max it again all within a single mission.
Tips: The Templar gains Focus by killing enemies and with certain abilities. Doing this requires carefully managing your Focus generation and expenditure throughout the mission. Ideally, target enemies that can be killed easily, and spend your generated Focus on abilities such as Volt and Rend.

3. New Alien Shenanigans and Adventures

A. The Lost
“Zombie Slayer”

Objective: Kill 15 zombies with a single soldier in a single mission.
Tips: The Lost come in hordes and unfortunately die from one single hit if you manage to point your gun correctly. Give this very basic order to your Assault Rifle or Shotgun-wielding character: stand tight, take shots at will. If a soldier happens to possess any ability granting an additional action, like Reaper for Rangers, use it.

“The Lost Tower”
Objective: Complete the Lost Towers mission.

Tips: This is a mission from the DLC Shen’s Last Gift added as part of War of the Chosen. The mission is about introducing the SPARK unit, and your best bet is to stay mobile while finishing off the Lost efficiently.

Bring It Down

Objective: Sabotage an Advent facility.

Tips: Facility Sabotage missions are critical for curbing progress in the Avatar project. Scout the facility beforehand, and be prepared for a rough fight, as these facilities are often heavily guarded.

B. ADVENT Units
Now Am I Become Death

Objective: Have a Skirmisher kill 3 enemies in one turn.
Tips: Skirmishers have incredible mobility and can chain attacks. Grab an ability to pull enemies toward you, such as Justice or Wrath, then follow up immediately with melee or ranged attacks to dispatch several enemies at the same time.

Always Be Shooting
Objective: Land three shots in a single turn with a SPARK.

Tips: SPARKs, introduced in Shen’s Last Gift DLC, can perform multiple actions in a single turn with their potent Overdrive ability. Equip your SPARK with guns that have the highest ammo capacity and position it optimally for maximum firing opportunities.

“Hail of Bullets”
Objective: Complete a mission with a SPARK unit in the squad.
Tips: Simply get a SPARK unit onto the field and finish the objective. SPARKs are resilient units and can hold the line great on their own.

4. Unique Mission Achievements:

There are some achievements in War of the Chosen which necessitate either the completion of unique missions or the achievement of specific criteria during these missions. They usually demand a fair amount of planning and considered execution.

A. Covert Actions
“Matter Over Mind”

Objective: Complete a mission with a squad of only Psi Operatives, Templars, and Skirmishers.
Tips: You really need to be far into the game to be able to have multiple Psi Operatives and Templars or Skirmishers. Each of these units is an able unit with abilities that complement each other very well, so build your intelligent plan around their strengths.

“Unified Resistance”

Objective: Get all three Resistance factions to maximum relationship status in a single game.
Tips: Focus on completing Covert Actions for each faction and responding to their requests. Also, use Resistance Orders to raise your standing with these factions. Note that some Covert Actions may hurt your relationship with one faction while improving it for another-one for a little bit of an unwelcome twist.

“Fully Operational Resistance”
Objective: Construct all Resistance Comms, Workshops, and Laboratories on the Avenger.

Tips: This one requires you to build every facility possible on the Avenger. Order your construction work in such a way that it is possible to build everything by the end of the game. Excavating all the available spaces might be the key here.

B. Story-Related Achievements
“The Sun Never Sets”

Objective: Complete a campaign with all continents contacted.
Tips: This achievement demands the spread of influence throughout the entire globe. Always stay focused on having contact with new regions as soon as possible and on building and upgrading your Resistance Comms facility to be able to contact more regions.

“The Few and the Proud”

Objective: Beat the game on Commander plus difficulty without buying a Squad Size upgrade.
Tips: This achievement is hard to get since it limits you to the default four soldiers in your squad. You’ll need to heavily rely on strategy, bonds, and advanced abilities for success. Always effectively manage your resources and think ahead several steps.

“Weary Warriors”
Objective: Complete a mission with all soldiers tired.

Tips: Soldiers become tired after missions and cannot fight effectively. Get this by bringing with you soldiers who are tired from another set of missions. The downside would be that tired soldiers are more likely to acquire adverse traits tomorrow or panic during combat.

5. Time-Sensitive and Conditional Achievements

Certain achievements in War of the Chosen are condition-based or time-limited. This necessitates planning and deep knowledge of the mechanics of the game.

A. Speedrun Achievements
“Exquisite Timing”

Objective: Finish the game at Commander+ level difficulty before July 1st.
Tips: This achievement is about quick-paced efficient gameplay. The main goal is to carry out important story missions while keeping the Avatar Project in control. Use your Covert Actions 100% of the time to increase efficiency. Target Chosen Strongholds before they become a massive headache by interfering with your operations. Striking a balance between what you research, facility building, and mission running will lead to efficient gameplay. Keep an eye on the clock and don’t dilly-dally!

“Who Needs Tygan?”

Objective: Win the final mission without researching any Beam Weapons.
Tips: This one is especially hard because Beam Weapons are a huge step up from normal firepower. To work around this problem, you may consider the use of Psi Operatives, heavy armor, and the special powers of Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars. Use Guerilla Tactics School upgrades to make your soldiers more effective, and rely a lot on explosives and other equipment that isn’t a weapon for damage.

Weary Warriors

Objective: Complete a mission with all soldiers tired.
Tips: The achievement is pretty simple to get if you can plan it towards the end of your campaign. Choose a mission with lower stakes, or one where you hold the advantage so as to maximize your chances of success. Use bonds and advanced abilities to compensate for the tiredness debuffs. Remember, however, that tired soldiers panic more easily, so keep morale up with bonding activities and smart strategies.

B. Conditional Achievements
“Valhalla”

Objective: Beat the game on Commander+ difficulty in Ironman mode.
Tips: Ironman mode is the most grueling season of playing XCOM 2 since you can’t even hit manual save, so every choice is forever. Achieving this award will require much careful play and strategy. Never have just one plan, and never expect your enemy to just lie there. Keeping your soldiers alive and switching up your squad will be your top priority. Foremost, you need to understand the working of this game and stay in front of your enemies with your moves.

“No One Left Behind”
Objective: Rescue a captured soldier.

Tips: Captured soldiers can be rescued by Covert Actions or specific rescue missions. You must prioritize the rescue mission and send a balanced team to ensure success. Rescue missions can turn out quite unpredictable, so always expect the worst. Equip your squad with the necessary gear against different types of enemies, and employ stealth whenever possible to limit unnecessary engagements.

“Excalibur”
Objective: Building the Blademaster sword.

Tips: This blade is a special weapon that requires you to work through the Reaper faction Covert Actions and finish a certain study. Make sure it gets resource attention early, and allow your Reapers on as many missions as possible for further advancements. The Blademaster sword will benefit melee combat greatly as soon as the weapon is available, especially for Rangers.

“Heavy Metal”

Objective: Kill an enemy with every heavy weapon in the game (Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher, Shredder Gun, etc.).
Tips: Generally, heavy weapons are mounted on SPARKs and EXO or WAR suits. As you progress in the game, make sure to build and equip every kind of heavy weapon. Design missions wherein you can appropriately use these kinds of weaponry on the right targets. Some heavy weapons are more specific in their use; thus you might want to use them in only a few special cases.

“Born in the Darkness”
Objective: Four kills in Shadow mode with a Reaper during a single mission.

Tips: Shadow mode allows Reapers to stay hidden while attacking and is crucial to achieving this objective. Choose missions with loads of weak or easily isolated enemies and position your Reaper well. Use your Banish with high-crit shots to deal the most damage while remaining in concealment. To ensure you keep the concealment, pick your Reaper’s targets and plan your moves carefully so you do not lose concealment prematurely.

6. Combat Related Achievements

In general, combat-related achievements in War of the Chosen require the execution of certain actions or feats during the battle, such as utilizing special abilities, achieving kill streaks, or enduring through challenging encounters.

A. Ability-Specific Achievements

“Overpowered”
Objective: Kill an enemy with every non-standard explosive (Acid, Incendiary, EMP, etc.).

Tips: Non-Standard Explosives are specialized grenades with varying effects on enemies. Whenever you proceed to unlock or build a grenade, consider putting it in your mission load-out. Some grenades are more suitable against specific enemies, so identify your targets properly. This achievement may be carried out across several missions, so split them up-a single type of grenade per mission-to make sure that you have done all of them.

“Now Am I Become Death”

Objective: Kill three enemies in one turn using a Skirmisher.
Tips: Skirmishers are best at close-range combat and chaining many attacks into a single turn with the use of Justice, Wrath, and a grappling hook. For the best chance of this achievement, focus on targets with low health or those that are already damaged. Place your Skirmisher in the thick of the action so they can reach multiple targets without too much movement.

“A New Alliance”

Objective: Finish a mission using only Resistance soldiers.
Tips: This achievement requires a mission done with soldiers belonging to the Resistance factions exclusively – Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars. Give this a go in a mission where the enemy force composition is predictable to take full advantage of each faction’s strengths. Reapers can run stealth missions, while Skirmishers do high mobility and versatile tasks. Meanwhile, Templars are potent melee fighters with fair Psi abilities.

B. Kill Streak Achievements

“Bring It Down”
Objective: Sabotage an Advent facility.
Tips: Sabotaging Advent facilities is an essential process in delaying the Avatar Project. These missions usually have you working your way through heavily defended areas, so a balanced squad would be recommended. Waste no time clearing out the rooms with high-damage abilities and weapons, and keep an eye on the mission timer, as you will need to plant the charges before reinforcements come in.

“Zombie Slayer”

Objective: Kill 15 zombies with one soldier during a single mission.
Tips: The Lost are zombie-like enemies that often come in hordes; this makes it easy to rack up kills during Lost-heavy missions. Get your soldier equipped with an Assault Rifle or a Shotgun, as these weapons offer the perfect mix of damage and ammo capacity. Position the soldier somewhere with good visibility and where the monsters can walk right in to be mowed down. Extra action abilities, such as Reaper’s, will be a great asset in racking up these kills.

“Heroes of the Resistance”

Objective: Win the game on Commander-II+ without soldier loss.
Tips: One of the hardest achievements to get due to the perfect gameplay required from beginning to end. To secure this, soldier survival must be always put above everything else. Use defensive tactics, cover, abilities that negate incoming damage, or at least reduce it. Bonds help by negating panic or other negative effects when something goes wrong. Always have a Plan B, and do not be afraid to retreat if the mission goes belly up.

7. Strategy Layer Achievements

Several achievements are attached to the strategy layer in War of the Chosen, tied to managing your resources, building facilities, and advancing your strategic goals.

A. Facility-Research Achievements

“Fully Operational Resistance”
Objective: Build all Resistance Comms, Workshops, and Laboratories on the Avenger.

Tips: Every building involves carefully thinking about resources and strategy. Always prioritize Engineers and Scientists for your Covert Actions as this will cut down on construction and research times. Use adjacency bonuses from the Workshop to boost efficiencies as you build towards your final facility targets. Excavation of the Avenger facilities at the earliest shall open up much-needed space.

“The Sun Never Sets”

Objective: Finish a campaign with all continents contacted.
Tips: World expansion is the key to the achievement. Build Resistance Comms early and keep upgrading them so that your ability for contact grows with it. Use Covert Actions and Intel to speed the process of contacting new regions. Always keep an eye on supplies and balance expansion with defense as the Avatar Project can make significant advances if some regions are neglected.

“Know Thy Enemy”

Objective: Research each type of ADVENT soldier.
Tip: You need to kill ADVENT soldiers and recover their corpses from the battlefield so that they may be researched. Try to prioritize missions with new enemy types, and leave some enemies alive whenever possible for research purposes. Perform autopsies fast so that you may unlock new technologies and abilities with which to counter the ADVENT forces.

B. Strategic Gameplay Achievements

“Unified Resistance”
Objective: Max all factions of Resistance (Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars) in a single game.

Tips: You go towards maximum relationship status with every one of the factions by finishing their Covert Actions and missions and their requests. Focus first in Covert Actions that increase the standing of yourself with each faction and give that action to your top-ranking soldiers so it is more likely to succeed. Secondly, try an early elimination of the Chosen since that will cause the factions to look favorably on you. Try to put equal amounts of focus on each of the factions so none get neglected, and keep working on improving relationships all through the campaign.

“Global Resistance”

Objective: Complete all Guerrilla Ops in a single campaign.
Tips: The Guerrilla Operations are essential for maintaining global stability and preventing Dark Events from occurring. Be sure to complete the Guerrilla Ops as they become available, even if that means sacrificing something else. The Guerrilla Ops that counter Dark Events deemed to be of more danger or that yield more valuable rewards should have priority. Use Intel to decide on the most critical Ops, and always keep a squad prepared at all times.

“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”

Objective: Complete all Covert Actions in a single campaign.
Tips: Covert Actions are the most important strategic level in War of the Chosen, allowing for different rewards and bonuses. To finish all Covert Actions, concentrate on building the Resistance Ring early on and ensure some soldiers are always assigned to active missions. Using extra slots provided by upgraded facilities allows for simultaneous Covert Actions. Be mindful of the risks each action holds, such as ambushes or soldier injuries, and plan accordingly.

“Shadow Chamber Master”

Objective: Complete all the Shadow Chamber projects.
Tips: The Shadow Chamber is essential for advancing the main story and gaining intel on enemy forces. To do all the projects, ensure you have enough alien materials on your missions and prioritize the construction of the Shadow Chamber. Balance your research between advancing the story and working on these projects, as in many cases, completing these projects gives you a substantial tactical advantage. Remember to keep declaring earthquaking instances of severe Avatar Project advancements because, sometimes, finishing Shadow Chamber projects might actually come into play for buying some much-needed time to halt its completion.

8. Base Management Achievements

Base management in War of the Chosen involves maintaining your facilities, staff, and resources so as to create an environment where the resistance can thrive. A few achievements relate to managing such elements well.

A. Staff and Facility Optimization
“Field Commander”

Objective: Promote a soldier to Colonel.
Tips: For a soldier to be promoted to Colonel, they must gain experience on successful missions and kills. Assign your most talented soldiers to the best missions where they will gain plenty of experience while also trying to protect them from harm and keep them alive. Use the Advanced Warfare Center to fast-track healing time to get into further action. Bonding with other soldiers also helps gain experience through kills and missions.

“Fully Armed and Operational”

Objective: Build every kind of facility on the Avenger.
Tips: Building every facility involves the keen management of your Avenger’s space and resources. Start with essentials such as the Guerrilla Tactics School, Resistance Comms, and the Psi Lab. Later, get on the Defence Matrix and Workshop. Keep an eye on power consumption and upgrade your Power Relays whenever necessary. Excavating new space as early as possible will give you the time to build the rest of the facilities and claim the achievement.

“Master Tactician”
Objective: Finish a mission with an all-Colonel squad.

Tips: The “Master Tactician” award requires patience, along with tight management over your soldiers’ experience. Strive to have more than one soldier promoted to the rank of Colonel by getting them of missions that reward high experience points from which they can be promoted. After you get all-Colonel squads, find a mission that suits their strengths and make sure to take a very versatile team that can handle any threat. This achievement is best acquired late in the campaign when you already have a well-developed roster.

“Psi Master”
Objective: Fully upgrade a Psi Operative.

Tips: Psi Operatives gain abilities from the training they receive inside the Psi Lab. Volunteer for early construction of the Psi Lab so that you can continuously train your Psi Operative until all the abilities in the game are unlocked. Give them a number of missions to gain combat experience and use their abilities to overcome difficult scenarios. A fully upgraded Psi Operative can be so powerful that they can help win battles with just their mind.

“Hero of the Resistance”

Objective: Unlocking all possible orders from the Resistance Ring.
Tips: Resistance Orders provide several bonuses and are unlocked by completing Covert Actions and fixing your relationship with the Resistance factions. To have all possible orders unlocked, work on Covert Actions specific to each faction and level up your influence with that faction. The orders in each faction are different, so vary your Covert Actions accordingly to get them all. Think about each order’s impact on your overall strategy, and focus on the ones that fit best with your style.

9. Endgame and Narrative Achievements

Approaching the endgame in War of the Chosen will have several achievements relating to completing key story missions, defeating the Chosen, and finishing the campaign under certain conditions.

Story and Campaign Completion Achievements

“Defender of Humanity”

Objective: Complete the final mission on any difficulty.
Tips: The War of the Chosen final mission comprises a multi-stage trial. Depending on your squad composition and choice mostly of ability usage during the mission, it would generally be considered hard. Therefore, make sure soldiers are equipped with the best gear the game offers, and would recommend bringing in some Psi Operatives as well as a handful of other special groups so that you could apply pressure to the unfamiliar threats on the battlefield. Use cover, coordinate squad movements, and wipe out the opposing forces, as you are going to need all your skills and tactics to stunt the enemy’s development and bring down the latter-boss formation. Winning this final mission will grant you the “Defender of Humanity” achievement.

“Army of One”

Objective: Finish the last mission with only one soldier left alive.
Tips: This achievement is very hard, requiring good timing and precise planning. It is, therefore, advisable to do it on lower difficulties where the enemy is not so overwhelming. Whereas doing it during the last mission, protect one soldier at all costs even if it means sacrificing others. That one soldier should be the one with high survivability; normally a high-rank Psi Operative or a Ranger with stealth abilities. Keep your last soldier in cover, use defensive abilities, wait to see your enemy’s move, then keep building more cover, and repeat until you have secured your soldier’s safety completing the mission together.

“Chosen Slayer”

Objective: The objective is to kill all the Chosen in one campaign.
Tips: The Chosen are big oralmen who will frequently interfere with your operations until they are defeated. To go around killing all three Chosen, you need to locate, enter, and assault their Strongholds. Each Chosen requires a somewhat different approach, so compose your squad accordingly to counter their abilities. Doing Covert Actions to locate Chosen Strongholds will reduce the time involved. Do not expect it to be easy, as the Chosen are tough and can call reinforcements; however, you will be rewarded with the “Chosen Slayer” achievement if you manage to take down all three.

“Last Stand”

Objective: To win the last mission while the three Resistance faction leaders are present.
Tips: Up to this achievement, you will need to bring one each of the faction leaders: Reaper, Skirmisher, and Templar. Hence during the campaign, always keep an eye on these elite leaders. Give priority to their upgrades. The three leaders have their distinct abilities, so use one or the other in the final battle depending on the situation. Having them act together will certainly help lead the charge against the tough enemies you will be up against. Having the three present and victorious in the last mission will net you this rare honor.

“Untouchable”

Objective: Complete the final mission on Commander+ difficulty without losing a soldier.
Notes: Completing the final mission on Commander+ difficulty without losing a soldier is a real test of strategy. To pull this off, bring in a squad that has been seasoned through many battles so that they have the best equipment and abilities at their disposal. Focus on defence: use cover, using Overwatch, and use abilities that check or reduce damage. Be aware of enemy positions and abilities and map your steps to minimize hazards. Successfully keeping your soldiers alive for the entire duration of the final mission will earn you the “Untouchable” achievement.

10. Miscellaneous Achievements

Lastly, the War of the Chosen offers a host of miscellaneous achievements that may not fit neatly into any of the other categories but are certainly worth pursuing.

“The Few and the Proud”
Objective: Beat the game with only three soldiers.

Tips: The achievement is a major challenge since you have to take the whole campaign with only three soldiers. In order to do so, pick your soldiers with great caution, ideating about those classes that compliment one another. Rangers, Specialists, and Psi Operatives being excellent choices for na`,igh!meremphasis on the` versatility and survivability. Play cautiously and never take unnecessary chances because a single loss of a member of your team will instantly render the rest of the campaign nearly impossible to complete. Use completely Guerilla Tactics School upgrades and special abilities.”

“Not Throwing Away My Shot”

Objective: Perform three attacks in a single turn with a single soldier.
Tips: In order to perform three attacks in a single turn, one must rely on abilities that either grant extra actions or allow faster actions. This makes the Ranger class an ideal one for this achievement. By upgrading your Ranger with the Implacable ability (which grants bonus action after killing an enemy) and Rapid Fire (which fires two shots at a target of reduced accuracy), you should be able to kill kills and chain bonus actions together. Moreover, equipping the Ranger with Reaper, which is a melee ability that resets your action point after you kill, may further cause multiple attacks. Another option includes the Sharpshooter Gunslinger subclass, where you can attack multiple targets within a single turn by using Faceoff and Lightning Hands. You want to plan carefully, target the weaker enemies so that kills are easy, and use buffs that other squad members can provide to get this achievement.

Run and Gun (Run and Gun)

Objective: To get rid of an enemy after using Dash in the same turn.
Tips: This trophy is quite straightforward but needs very perfect timing and positioning. Run and Gun, being the third ability of the Ranger class, lets a soldier Dash, then still take an offensive action-this means shooting or even a melee attack-all in the same turn. The objective here is to select a target within range, then Run and Gun toward the target, and after that take the shot or perform the melee attack to kill. This can be very handy for closing distances on high-priority targets, and it can even be a bittersweet opportunity given some consideration.

“The Hardest Road”

Object: Complete the game on Legendary difficulty.
Tips: Being the ultimate test for XCOM 2 players, Legendary difficulty drastically increases the challenge by buffing enemy stats, reducing resources, and just making the game utterly unforgiving. To complete the game on this difficulty, you must become an expert in every aspect of the game- from squad and base building, all the way through to tactical combat. You should never take foolish risks; maintain your soldiers’ health, and always use your resources effectively. Research and facility construction should take precedence to avoid falling behind on technology. Make sure you exploit every chance to stay a step ahead, such as Guerrilla Ops and Covert Actions. Save frequently, and do not hesitate to completely change your strategy according to campaign flow!

A God Falls

Objective: Kill Alien Rulers, the very first time they are met.
Tip: Alien Rulers are very tough enemies introduced in the Alien Hunters DLC, and they serve as mini-bosses with special abilities and the power to take an extra turn in between your soldier’s actions. Killing an Alien Ruler on the first encounter requires a well-prepared team armed with the best weapons and abilities. Soldiers equipped with Alien Hunters DLC items, like the Bolt Caster and Frost Bomb, can keep the Ruler under control and bear it down in damage. Concentrate your attacks on the Ruler, using abilities that either stun or freeze them. Since timing is so important, coordinated effort must be put forth to counter this foe. The Rulers will escape from the confrontation if you take too long to finish them. Plan with your best approach in mind so that the squad can lay on as much damage as possible as soon as they can.

“Exquisite Timing”

Objective: Beat the game on Commander+ difficulty by July 1st (in-game time).
Tips: To beat the game on a high difficulty before July 1st, you have to adopt a very aggressive approach to the campaign and work very efficiently. You want to get the story objectives done as fast as possible, and that often means trying not to get side-tracked with side missions unless those side missions bring in really important resources or rewards. Prioritize building the needed facilities, researching the necessary tech, and getting soldiers out there so you can start gaining momentum as early as possible. Don’t get into optional fights that could cost you lots of time in the later stage. Make good calls on when to do what missions. Efficient time and resource management will be key here.

“Brutal Collection”

Objective: Finish the Alien Hunters DLC missions on Legendary difficulty.
Tips: Alien Hunters DLC features some of the best enemies in XCOM, making finishing missions a Herculean task on Legendary difficulty. Before entering one of these missions, your squad needs to be upgraded fully and equipped with all the best gear it can get. Use the weapons and items of the DLC–for example, the Hunter’s Axe and Shadowkeeper–to your advantage. Crowd control should be a priority for your squad: take away the Rulers’ ability to perform any extra actions, as these can decimate your squad in no time. Play defensively, but never be afraid to retreat and regroup if need be; be patient and plan very carefully because these missions demand it.

“The Few and the Proud” (Redux)

Objective: Complete the game with three soldiers only.
Tips: This achievement demands a great deal of discipline and strategy. You will need to identify the soldiers you want to work with and train them to be pretty much self-sufficient and able to cut through a broad array of situations. For complementary classes, the composition of a Ranger for upfront damage, Specialist for healing and hacking, and a Sharpshooter for support seems nice. Focus on advancement and the best gear available. Take no silly risks; instead, pick and choose only those missions that show good reward. You must understand the game know-how deeply and also be willing to change strategies as your campaign matures.
