amazon ASRock Taichi reviews
Design and packaging
The bold magnum box of the ASRock design, with the main black and white tone. True to the name Taichi, the yin-yang symbol is designed to occupy most of the box surface. The bottom of the product box is the main features of the Taichi motherboard.
The board design also uses ASRock black and white tones. Overall, Taichi’s design is quite impressive and looks pretty clean. While other X99 products are focused on developing features that serve the needs of the “fancy” with the built-in RGB LEDs, the X99 Taichi is aimed at users who have a preference for a relatively classical, Speech design through mainstream motifs. It’s a shame that if you use black capacitors, the motherboard will give you more homogeneous color than the yellow capacitors.
The board is equipped with 12 phases, using the six-phase Intersil ISL controller that can be upgraded to twelve-phase – by using an extended controller.
This is a relatively inexpensive design compared to the price of the X99 Taichi motherboard, because high-end E series processors require a lot of power, such as the 6950X processor have 10 multiply and 20 threads, not to mention overclocking. ASRock motherboards can still handle this processor, if users are not too picky about the extra features.
Function
Taichi supports SLI and CrossFireX 3 cards at the same time. To support to VGA increasingly large and heavy (large heat sink), the provision of PCIEx metal casings is becoming more popular, X99 Taichi is no exception. On the bottom edge of the motherboard, we can see two BIOS processors and switch.
The Taichi has eight memory slots, supporting a maximum of 128GB at 3.333MHz. The product also supports ECC when used in conjunction with Zeon E5 processors, so it is possible to use Taichi as a good price workstation option for those in need.
Taichi is fully equipped with USB 3.0 ports, but lack of power and reset buttons usually appear on high-end boards. This is a very regrettable shortcoming of this product. There are a total of 10 integrated SATA 6GB / s ports, of which eight are designed vertically. The motherboard also supports SATA Express connectivity, and M.2 connectivity.
Some high end motherboards use the Realtek ALC1150 audio processor, ASRock uses its own component, “Purity Sound 3”, which provides a 115dB signal equivalent to the DAC decoder kit. Texas Instruments NE5532 amplifier for audio entertainment needs, support for headphones with 600 ohm impedance.
PCIEx slots
ASRock equips Taichi with a nice set of applications that can be downloaded on the application store. The A-Tuning application allows users to customize all features of the system.
Overclocking
The X99 Taichi is not aimed at overclockers, so this test is just about the right size. The Haswell-E processors themselves are quite hot, so users need to use a water heater if they want to overclock. Test results show that the highest clock frequency that a microprocessor can achieve with a 4.5Ghz cooler is quite good compared to an unspecified product overclocked. However, if you want to operate continuously 24/24, users can use the overclocking mode automatically tweaked in the BIOS, setting the clock rate falls to about 4GHz.

Conclude
The ASRock X99 Taichi is a combination of good design, modest features and pleasant price for new X99 series beginners. This is a very worthwhile option if your budget does not allow.
The design inspired by Yin and Yang is quite interesting, although compared to 2016’s RGB light it looks a little bit classic. With PCIEx 3.0 and M.2, built-in Wi-Fi as well as 3.1 Type C USB port, you have all the necessary ports.
The motherboard can be used for basic workstations, if used in conjunction with a Xeon processor.
In terms of performance, the BIOS works pretty well, the overclocking feature can be activated quickly and efficiently.
Advantage
Beautiful design
Automatic overclocking feature
Disadvantages
No U.2 port
There is no power button / reset on the board.
