amazon DJI Osmo reviews
Design
Osmo is a rotating system with a three-part, detachable structure. The first part (above) is camera and gimbal. This is a dynamic structure, with multiple joints that help suppress vibration when the device is operating.
The camera is spherical and compact in size. It is smaller than conventional HERO cameras and only slightly larger than the HERO4 Session. The body is made of high quality alloy material, very sturdy. There are no buttons on the body, only memory card slots and some positions are chiselled, heat sinks, micro holes … Because of these gaps, the camera is not water resistant – a weakness. Big compared to competitors from Sony and GoPro …
The anti-vibration gimbal has a neat design, covering the electronic parts when connected, ensuring durable operation, long lasting use not to be closed due to dust.
The second part is the phone holder. This bracket because the angle of the phone should be very solid, it can be compatible with many different phone sizes and can be folded down, disassembled when not in use.
The third part is the handle (bottom). This is a static structure and takes control of the entire dynamic structure above. From the power on / off switch, to the record button, the directional lock button … all on the handle. In addition, the handle is also the battery holder, power supply for the entire system. That is both the advantage and the Osmo’s disadvantage, because the two upper parts are more compact, because they can not operate without a power handle.
So, although Osmo has a standalone design, you will not be able to mount cameras and gimbal clusters in your car or anywhere to make the journey camera. Want to use you are forced to connect the whole system together.
Efficiency
In terms of performance, Osmo’s camera is capable of shooting – shooting very well. Sony’s 1 / 2.3-inch, 12-megapixel sensor, which supports 30fps Ultra HD video, 120fps Full HD – similar to the GoPro HERO4 Black.
The lens has a fixed focal length of 22mm (converted to full-frame sensor size or 35mm film size), with a wide viewing angle of up to 94 degrees, F2.8 aperture.
The camera-shake gimbal is the Zenmuse X3, which supports 3-axis shake control, eliminates vibration when shooting video – Osmo’s big advantage over other camcorders. The speed of rotation of the gimbal Zenmuse X3 reaches 120 degrees per second, the range of horizontally varying direction is + -320 degrees, the vertical is + -30 degrees, the inclination is from -90 to +150 degrees.

Experience has shown that the range of rotation changes is not very comfortable, but it is very good compared to the three-axis anti-vibration gimbal on the market today.
Photos from the camera are of good quality, smooth 4K video and smooth, supporting two 4K standards including Ultra HD (3.840×2.160px) and DCI (4.096×2.160px).
When in operation, the camera radiates heat quite hot, this can even affect the video quality. Overheating sensor may cause image noise…
The Osmo is also equipped with a 3.5mm micro-port, which works well with wireless microphones (bluetooth, wireless).
Function
Osmo offers a variety of shooting modes including single shots, consecutive shots, intermittent shots, time-lapse shots, panorama shots, self shots, and more. There are two auto and slow-motion video modes. From simple to complex, manual control of parameters.
To do that, users need to connect their mobile device with Osmo, via an application called DJI Go. This app is currently available for free on two of the most popular mobile platforms, Android and iOS.
The interface of the DJI Go application is friendly, easy to control. The delay is low but the image latency is high, although Osmo plays a separate Bluetooth-enabled wifi connection to connect to mobile devices. It is known that DJI has just released a firmware update to improve this issue.
