After much feedback and opinions from the audiophile community about the product duo SA6 & SA6 Ultra, Dunu’s production team has begun to produce the next version of these two IEMs. The result that Dunu achieved is the masterpiece IEM Dunu SA6 MK2. So compared to its predecessor, what changes does SA6 MK2 have in terms of design, accessories, and sound quality?

Packaging and accessories

Youthful and dynamic colors are still the main design language on the cover box of Dunu SA6 MK2. Dunu’s high-end headphones will be packaged in a cardboard box that is much larger than the box of the SA6 version. With orange-red tones covering the outside, the cover box of SA6 MK2 looks very eye-catching. On the front, in addition to the product name, Dunu also arranges a certification stamp that meets Hires Audio standards. Meanwhile, on the back, there will be a detailed technical specifications table printed in 3 different languages.

Inside the cover box, in addition to the pair of Dunu SA6 MK2 headphones, users will receive an additional set of accessories including:

  • 1 cable
  • 1 Single-Ended 3.5mm jack module
  • 1 Balanced 4.4mm jack module
  • 3 pairs of silicone ear tips size S/M/L
  • 3 pairs of Dunu Candy ear tips size S/M/L
  • 4 pairs of Dunu S&S ear tips size S/M/L
  • 1 pair of foam ear tips
  • 1 headphone cleaning brush
  • 1 high-quality carrying case made of leather
  • User manual and warranty card

Design and wearing experience

Dunu SA6 MK2 continues to inherit the design language from its two predecessors. But there will be a little customization to make the headphones more beautiful and provide a more comfortable wearing experience.

The housing part of the headset continues to undergo the 3D printing process and is made from UV acrylic plastic from Germany. Due to its transparent form, users can see the internal structure of the headset. Fixed to the housing is a faceplate made of wood with a strange but extremely attractive burnt orange color. On the faceplate will be printed the brand name Dunu and the number 6 symbolizing the name of the headset.

On the housing, there will be a small switch that allows users to switch back and forth between Default Signature (corresponding to symbol I) and Atmospheric Immersion (corresponding to symbol ON).

Compared to the previous two versions, Dunu SA6 MK2 has a better optimized ergonomic shape. And this makes the appearance of the SA6 MK2 look similar to a custom headset. When worn on the ear, the SA6 MK2 creates a very impressive fit and brings an extremely comfortable, snug, and smooth wearing feeling. Choosing the right tip size will further increase ear fit.

Similar to the Ultra version, the SA6 MK2 comes with a Dunu Hulk Pro Mini cable. This is a beautifully designed, sturdy, and sturdy cable. All conductors inside the cable are made of high-purity Furukawa single-crystal copper.

The connector will be 0.78mm 2-pin and the 2-pin connector will be a bit longer than other common 2-pin connectors on the market. The jack is designed in modular form allowing users to easily unplug and convert from Single-Ended to Balanced connection. Dunu gave this design its name, Q-Lock Plus. Practical experience shows that the SA6 MK2 cable has quite good anti-tangle ability, is easy to untangle, and does not encounter microphonic problems when used.

Driver configuration and sound quality

The driver configuration equipped with each ear of the Dunu SA6 MK2 will include 6 Balanced Armature drivers manufactured by Sonion and Knowles. The tasks of these drivers will be divided as follows:

  • Sonion AcuPass Vented Dual Woofer driver is in charge of reproducing the bass range
  • A pair of Knowles Custom Midrange drivers are responsible for reproducing the mid-range
  • Driver Knowles Custom Dual Tweeter is in charge of reproducing the treble range

In terms of parameters, the Dunu SA6 MK2 will be frequency-divided in a 3-way format, with a sensitivity of 114dB, an impedance of 24Ohm, and a frequency response range of 5Hz – 40kHz.

Overall, the SA6 MK2 has a fairly neutral sound quality, is tuned in a light U-shaped direction, and has a more enhanced sub-bass than the SA6 version. Even though it only uses BA drivers, the bass range of the SA6 MK2 has a very impressive texture and volume. The sub-bass has a much better presence than the midbass, which makes the rumble in the bass range more enjoyable. If that’s still not enough for you, turn the switch on the housing to ON mode. At this time, the bass range will become more flexible and energetic. Expressing vibrant music genres like EDM or Hiphop will become better when switching to this mode.

The mid-range is still the main highlight of the SA6 MK2. Like its predecessor, SA6 MK2 has a very smooth, detailed, and emotional vocal performance. With the enhanced bass range, the mid-range will benefit a bit. The mid sound will become thicker but still maintain a natural and honest timbre. The prominent low mid-section will create a good amount of air for the entire mid-range. This factor, when combined with the smooth and clear mid-range, will make the vocals even more attractive. Although the timbre is a bit thin, using it with a quality Questyle M15 or Cayin RU7 sound source will improve the thickness and fullness of the mid-range.

With good handling of the treble extension, the treble sound on the SA6 MK2 sounds very pleasant, airy, smooth, and full of detail. The brightness in the treble range is very moderate and not too harsh like other headphones using BA drivers, so it does not cause unpleasant sibilance. Good retrieval ability helps SA6 MK2 accurately describe every detail in the music, even the smallest.

In addition to great timbre, Dunu SA6 MK2 also possesses perfect technique. The soundstage has impressive width and depth, accompanied by excellent imaging, clear instrument separation, and very precise positioning of each instrument in the orchestra. However, SA6 MK2 will have some difficulty with high-tempo rock or metal songs.

With meticulousness in all aspects from design, finishing, and accessories to sound quality, it is not difficult to understand that Dunu SA6 MK2 is the hottest IEM in the price range of $400.
