The relatively affordable Eufy RoboVac G30 robot vacuum has a compact design, strong suction for its size, and smarter navigation than its predecessors.

If you’re looking for a robot vacuum that can fit in tight spaces, they’re not much more compact than the $349.99 Eufy RoboVac G30. At just 2.85 inches tall, it can clean in places where many other robot vacuums don’t fit, like under the couch. Its battery life is decent, but it offers smarter navigation than its predecessors and a lot of power for its size. It also supports app and voice control, scheduling, and Eufy’s BoostIQ feature automatically adjusts suction power as needed. It’s a serious contender against the $299.99 iRobot iRoomba 675, and you might prefer it if you have a small home with low furniture.

Design and Features

Note that Eufy also makes a version of the G30 called the RoboVac G30 Edge, which costs $20 more. The main difference between the two models is that the G30 Edge is compatible with physical boundary strips that you can place on your floor to prevent the robot from cleaning certain areas, such as under your desk, where it may be entangled in the wire.

Whatever the model, the Eufy RoboVac G30 is one of the smallest robot vacuums we’ve tested, measuring 12.8 inches in diameter and 2.85 inches in height. At the top, it has an attractive dark blue design with three physical buttons: a Recharge button in the middle, flanked by an Auto-Clean start/pause button above and a Spot Clean button below. The Wi-Fi status light is at the top.

There is a main power switch on the right side. You can always power the robot on, but Eufy recommends turning it off if you know you won’t use it for a long time. At the bottom, it has a main roller brush, an auxiliary brush, a drop sensor, and a tracking sensor. It also has a 600ml dustbin with an E11 high-efficiency filter inside. The RoboVac G30 boasts a suction power of 2,000Pa, easily surpassing the Roomba 675’s 600Pa.

Unlike its predecessors, the Eufy RoboVac 11s and RoboVac 30C, which clean in a random pattern, the RoboVac G30 cleans your home in a systematic way. It has a gyroscope and sensors that track the path to follow an orderly path and record where it has passed. A Eufy spokesperson told me that this second-generation navigation technology “dramatically improves cleaning efficiency by ensuring greater coverage with shorter cleaning times.”

In Auto Mode, the robot creates straight lines just like you do when mowing the lawn. In Spot mode, it cleans a specific area in a spiral for two minutes.

The RoboVac G30 has four suction options for you to choose from Standard, Turbo, Maximum, and BoostIQ. By default, it is set to BoostIQ, which automatically adjusts the suction power based on your floor and how much debris is detected. With BoostIQ enabled, it will increase suction when moving on carpets and areas with a lot of soil.

Setup and Maintenance

To set up, remove the protective foam blocks, install the side brushes and turn on the main power switch. The robot will make a sound, and the Wi-Fi status light will start flashing slowly. From there, you place the charging dock against the wall and plug it in. Eufy recommends placing the base on a hard, flat surface (instead of carpet or rug) two feet away from objects and six feet facing anything. Then press the Recharge button on top of the robot, and it will come right to its premises. When fully charged, it will say Standby next to the battery icon in the app.

The RoboVac G30 doesn’t come with a remote, but you can control it through the EufyHome app (available for Android and iOS). Setting it up to work with the app is simple. Just download the app and create an account if you don’t already have one. Tap the plus icon to add the robot to your account, then follow the onscreen instructions to set up the robot on your Wi-Fi network.

While the robot is charging, you may want to take some time to prepare your home. Eufy recommends removing the power cord and small objects on the floor that could drop the robot. The company includes a small pack of cables that you can use to clean wires on your floor in the box. If you have area rugs, you’ll want to fold any fringe edges underneath, so they don’t get tangled up.

The robot’s anti-fall sensors will prevent it from falling down the stairs. Sensors are less effective when soiled or used on carpeted or very dark floors, so you’ll want to wipe them clean and use physical barriers to block off areas where the robot can fall. Finally, be sure to keep the robot away from wet areas and use physical barriers around fireplaces and other potentially hazardous spaces.

As expected for the price, the RoboVac G30 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to control it with your voice. It’s easy to set it up to work with either voice assistant, especially if you’re familiar with the process. Otherwise, Eufy provides instructions and troubleshooting tips in the Smart Integrations section of the app (accessible from the top left menu). I already have the Alexa and Google Home apps on my phone, making setup quick and easy. Once connected to it, you can control the robot with commands like “Alexa, ask RoboVac to start cleaning.”

Eufy recommends cleaning the dustbin after each use, the filter, and the main roller brush once a week. Every month, you should clean the side brush, drop sensor, wheel. You will need to change the filter every two months, the auxiliary brush every three to six months, and the main handle brush every six to 12 months. Instructions for cleaning and replacing these parts are included in the owner’s manual. In the box, you get a cleaning tool along with an additional filter and side brush.

EufyHome App

The EufyHome app is intuitive and easy to use. You can start and pause cleaning jobs in the app, choose cleaning modes and suction levels, set cleaning schedules, and view your cleaning history.

When you open the app while the robot is working, it will show how many square feet the robot has covered and the duration of that cleaning session. You can also see how much battery it has left.

When cleaning, the robot will create a very basic map of your home in the app. An icon shows where the charging dock is located on the map, helping you identify which room it is. You can also view the robot’s location, which can be useful if it’s stuck and you can’t find it. The iRoomba 675 doesn’t offer any mapping features, but it’s also $50 cheaper.

If you have a large home, you’ll want to head into the app’s Cleaning Settings menu and enable the Auto Return to Clean function. When turned on, the robot will resume cleaning where it left off if it has to return to the charging dock before the job is finished. In the Scheduling section, you can choose which days of the week you want to clean and at what time.

Performance

The RoboVac G30’s cleaning and navigation capabilities amazed me. It runs around your home efficiently and can be moved from floor to floor with ease. For instance, it has no problem moving from hard floors to carpets and rugs with a low area. Its small size allows it to tackle tight spaces, like between chair legs, more easily than other robot vacuums I tested.

It’s the only vacuum I’ve used that’s short enough to clean under the couch in my living room without getting stuck. However, it got stuck under another couch, a sleeping sofa.

In Auto mode, which you’ll probably use most often, it’s not too loud. One of my complaints about the Roomba 675 is how noisy it runs. On the other hand, the RoboVac G30 doesn’t bother me; even with BoostIQ enabled, Eufy warns it can increase noise levels.

Eufy says the RoboVac G30 can run for up to 100 minutes per charge, but BoostIQ reduces battery life. In testing, it cleaned for 88 minutes in Auto mode with BoostIQ turned on before running out of battery and successfully navigating itself back to the charging station. Meanwhile, the iRobot Roomba 675 lasted 104 minutes.

After those 88 minutes, the trash was filled with dust, dog hair, crumbs. My floors look much cleaner, and my carpet has perfect vacuuming lines on it.

During the cleaning process, the robot wanted to get under my desk, so I moved away to let it do its thing. I wanted to see if it got tangled in my wires, and it started like that, but I quickly pulled it out. I also had many wires behind my TV stand and nightstand, and the RoboVac G30 successfully avoided those without my help. If you are concerned about this, I recommend using the RoboVac G30 Edge, which is compatible with boundary strips. That said, boundary bands can be a bit tricky to place and an eyesore. More expensive floor mopping robots like the $800 Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI and $500 Proscenic M7 Pro let you set virtual boundary zones for no-go zones in their companion app.

In testing, the RoboVac G30 worked perfectly with both Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. I can use my voice to start the cleaning job and return the vacuum to its base. The Scheduling feature also works as expected.

Compare and conclude

In terms of features and price, the RoboVac G30 is similar to the Roomba 675, iRobot’s cheapest robot vacuum with Wi-Fi connectivity. Both support app control, scheduling, and voice commands. RoboVac G30 has stronger suction power, more compact design provides a more basic and quiet home mapping.

The Roomba 675 is $50 cheaper, has better battery life, and supports virtual wall barriers. We’d prefer the Roomba 675, but both are solid options depending on your needs. If you are looking for a compact and powerful robot vacuum that can navigate tight spaces and clean underneath low furniture, choose the RoboVac G30.
