What are IP Standards?

IP (Ingress Protection) is an international standard that measures a device’s dust and water resistance.

IPXX has two digits. The first digit in the IP code indicates the degree of protection against solid objects, including dust. The second digit represents a device’s level of water resistance.

Meaning of number XX

1) Standard against Solid Objects and Dust

IP0X: No special protection

IP1X: Protection against solids larger than 50 mm

IP2X: Protection against solids larger than 12.5mm

IP3X: Protection against solids larger than 2.5 mm in diameter.

IP4X: Protection against solids larger than 1 mm in diameter.

IP5X: Ingress-prevention-level dust protection

IP6X: Prevent dust

2) Waterproof Standard

IPX0: No special protection

IPX1: Protection against dripping water

IPX2: Protection against dripping water at an angle of 15 degrees

IPX3: Protection against spray water

IPX4: Protection against multi-directional splashes of water

IPX5: Protection against low-pressure jet water for at least 3 minutes

IPX6: Protection against strong pressure jet water, at least 3 minutes

IPX7: Protection for immersion in water to a depth of 1 meter, for 30 minutes

IPX8: Protection for immersion in water at a depth of 1 meter, for hours
