amazon iBasso D14 Bushmaster reviews
DESIGN
IBasso D14 is canned in a familiar style, quite similar to the iBasso D-Zero MK2 launched in 2014
Specifications of D14. The most notable of these is the Saber32 ES9018K2M DAC, which was featured on the DX90, a branded player for iBasso.
Open the box, the D14 is neatly placed in the shock absorber, reflecting the elegance of the metal.
Digital:
Dimensions: 60 x 104 x 20 (mm)
Weight: 149g
Source: Built-in 4.2V Li-polymer Battery
Battery life: 13-25 hours depending on usage mode
Frequency response: 17Hz ~ 20 KHz +/- 1dB (DAC), 17Hz ~ 100 KHz +/- 0.2dB (AMP).
Power: 400mW per channel at 32 Ω
Output impedance: 0.1 Ω
Headphones fit: 8 ~ 300 Ω
Gain: + 3dB / + 9dB (AMP).
The first feeling when I came into contact with the D14 was extremely reliable design and excellent finishing quality. The entire body is made of aluminum CNC milling scratches.
However, unlike the ultra-slim iBasso D-Zero, the D14 is quite thick (about 3cm), which makes it difficult to pinch it to other DAPs like the Fiio X5, DX80 or smartphone.
The front consists of a black volume cluster (with a power switch) and the 2 outputs of the phone / AUX output are made of very durable copper, which is a two step gain switch.
The back side is a USB port for connecting to a computer, a telephone (via an OTG cable), a charging function, a 3-way toggle switch and a battery-charging switch. Finally, the SPDIF port allowed the D14 to receive digital signals from dedicated music players such as Fiio X5 or iBasso DX80. However, one disadvantage of this portable DAC / AMP is still using the miniUSB port instead of the current microUSB.
IBasso is also quite generous when it comes with all the accessories that come with it: OTG cable, 3.5mm cable, 3.5mm SPDIF cable as well as DAP cable, smartphone.
QUALITY BETTER
iBasso DX90 DAP equipped Saber32 ES9018K2M DAC, what I hope for on the D14 is a clean, neutral sound that dramatically improves the quality of all three strips. Comparing two different devices, not the same segment, is a complete lag (DX90 has two DACs), but if you miss the chance to own the DX90, the D14 is a complete replacement worthy.
The first impression iBasso D14 brings is a very clean, spotless, ultrasonic background soundstage, very good 3D space reproduction, especially the separation between the voice. The singer and other instruments are very clear. It is no coincidence that the Sabre32 ES9018K2M is equipped on a lot of midrange / high end audio equipment, as it perfectly reproduces what is recorded on the song, very specific and detailed.
With a capacity of 400mW per channel at 32Ω and especially a very low output impedance of only 0.1Ω, the D14 AMP circuit does not experience any problems with low impedance IEMs or some easy-to-read fullsize in the segment midrange. There are some names like RHA T10i, RHA T20i, Dunu DN-2000J to Senheiser HD598 or Hifiman HE400.
However, it would be too much of a dilemma if the D14 was mixed up with tough guys such as the Senheiser HD600 or DT880 250Ω, though theoretically, the portable DAC / AMP is capable of playing with headphones with impedance 8-300 Ω.
If properly orchestrated, all three strings are significantly improved by the D14: the bass is very powerful and deep, mid-forward, more detailed and finally a click on the low-treble to create vast space. One point worth noting is that the treble strips are not pushed up too bright, shimmering, leng keng but just fine. If you are a “treble” addict. I’m sure D14 is hard to satisfy your ears.

SUSPENDED
With just half amount of money the DX90, what D14 represents as a portable DAC / AMP device is impressive. Neutral sound, good noise-canceling ability, clean background and significant improvement on 3 audio strips.
In addition, the D14 is also versatile when used for PC / Laptop via USB, Android smartphone via OTG cable, iPhone with camera kit cable, music player or soundcard via digital cable SPDIF.
Advantage:
+ Rigid design, good finishing quality.
+ DAC / AMP audio quality is worth the price.
+ The battery life is pretty.
Disadvantages:
+ Still use miniUSB port instead of microUSB.
+ Size is quite thick, bulky when put into pants pocket
