amazon Samsung Galaxy A40 reviews
In addition to using the Samsung Super AMOLED sharp screen with Samsung brand, Galaxy A40 also owns super wide-angle camera. This is a great advantage of the Galaxy A40 because other phones in the same price range rarely possess this camera.
In fact, the Galaxy A40 does not have too many outstanding features or own new features but this device also deserves attention in the mid-range segment because of stability.
Design
Samsung Galaxy A40 has a completely body made of plastic with choices of colors Black, White, Coral and Blue. The phone used in this review is the Blue version. Although the back of the device is called a 3D glass, the plastic surface is actually finished to look like a glass.
With the Blue version, it can be easily recognized that the machine changes colors from different angles. The back of the device is quite easy to track the user’s fingerprints but it is difficult to see.
The soft curves of the back not only bring the aesthetic to the Galaxy A40 but also give users the feeling of holding other devices firmly.
Fingerprint sensor located at the back of the machine works very well with high speed and high accuracy. Although it only takes a very short time for the device to recognize the user’s fingerprint, it will take a while longer to unlock the phone screen. For some users, the sensor may be slightly higher than the finger placement but this does not affect the experience of the Galaxy A40.
On the front, Samsung gives the Galaxy A40 5.9-inch water drop screen with a high display rate thanks to its impressive thin edges. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S10e, the overall A40 is only 2mm taller and the same size, but has a screen larger than 0.1 inches.
The chassis is also made of plastic but perhaps because of the color and overall design make the frame look like it is made of metal. Power button and volume rocker are located on the right. On the left is the SIM slot and microSD memory card tray.
On the lower edge of the Galaxy A40, Samsung has equipped a speaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a USB-C port used to charge the battery as well as the main data and voice transmission. Meanwhile, noise-canceling microphones are located on the top edge of the device.
With a compact size with plastic material, Galaxy A40 has a volume of only 140 grams. Users can easily hold the device with one hand and the grip doesn’t feel slippery. The advantage of that material is that plastic will be more difficult to break but will appear scratches if placed on a rough surface.
Screen display
As mentioned above, a bright spot of Galaxy A40 is the ownership of Samsung’s characteristic Super AMOLED screen. The device is equipped with a 5.9 inch water drop screen with a resolution of 1080 × 2340. The frame rate of the device is very high (19.5: 9).
A point on the screen that would probably affect some of the users’ initial experience was the drop of water that looked a bit deep and narrow. However, getting used to the design will happen very quickly and will not cause discomfort during use.
The color accuracy, resolution and display quality of Galaxy A40 are quite good. The brightness of the device is enough for users to easily use in the sun.
Battery, speaker and sound quality
Battery life is not one of Samsung Galaxy A40’s strongest points. The 3,100 mAh battery has not been able to deliver as much time as expected in the tests. On one charge, the device can browse the web continuously for more than 10 hours, watch videos continuously for nearly 11 hours and 3G calls for 20 hours 38 minutes.
The single speaker of the machine has standard quality compared to the mid-range segment, however, the volume of Galaxy A40 is somewhat smaller than other competitors. This is probably also affected by the small size of the device.
When connecting Samsung Galaxy A40 to external speakers, this smartphone has done a good job of providing clear, accurate audio output and high volume. However, when the headset is connected, the result is not good because the volume is small and somewhat noisy.
One UI interface
With this year’s Galaxy A series, Samsung is pre-installed for Android 9.0 operating system devices along with the latest One UI interface that includes many features and optimizations that make it easier for users to use the device.
Users can also install alternate navigation keys with swipe gestures from below the screen. Depending on the user’s wishes, the operation will perform the function of returning or opening recent applications as well as exiting the main screen. For users who need to perform quick switching between two applications, navigation keys must be used because gestures do not support this feature. The General Settings section is also easier to find.
However, the screen mode is always displayed often with products using Super AMOLED screen does not appear in Galaxy A40.
The security and biometric sections are similar to other devices, including full fingerprint settings and face scanning with a number of additional options. However, as mentioned above, the scanning speed of the sensor is very fast, but the phone takes a while after scanning the fingerprint to unlock it.
Face unlock feature works quite well with several options to help this security mode more accurate and faster. But face scanning is based only on the front camera, so security is not as high as fingerprint scanning.
Some advanced features also appear in Samsung Galaxy A40 such as: opening the screen by double-tapping the screen, intelligent alert (when you pick up the phone, the device will vibrate to remind about calls Missed or unread messages), flip to mute and the screen is always displayed when the user is still looking.
Although sometimes annoying, a smart Pop-up interface may be useful in some cases. Users can enable this feature for individual applications to support screen split mode. When the user receives a notification, a small icon will appear on the screen. If you touch the icon, the application that just announced will appear in a small window or full screen display.
With the Device Care section, users will see battery management, storage, memory and security management items. The battery section will provide information about how many applications have been used since the last charge.
Similar to other Samsung phones, there are many system applications that will be preinstalled on Galaxy A40 such as Calendar, Clock, Galaxy Library and Store. The Samsung Internet web browser works also quite impressive and includes many features.
Overall, the user interface works quite smoothly and doesn’t have any crashes.
Efficiency
Galaxy A40 owns one of the most powerful mid-range chips that is the 8-core Exynos 7885 combining Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. The phone has only one version of RAM / Internal memory of 4GB / 64GB, with microSD memory card support to increase storage capacity.
With a benchmark of single-core performance as well as multi-core, Galaxy A40 is not really impressive. And also anticipated before, GPU performance is also not excellent, only meet the needs of simple use. For many gaming users, this device is not really impressive.

Camera
Galaxy A40 owns the rear camera pair including 16MP f / 1.7 main camera and 5MP ultra wide angle camera f / 2.2. Meanwhile the front camera of the device is 25MP f / 2.0.
The default camera application is similar to other smartphones running on Samsung’s One UI interface. Users can swipe left and right to switch different camera modes and one button to switch between normal camera and super wide-angle camera. Additional settings are located in the upper left corner of the screen including photo and video settings.
Galaxy A40 also has Pro shooting mode but only stops at ISO settings, white balance and exposure.
In daylight conditions, the Galaxy A40 captures pretty good pictures with enough detail, convincing colors and impressive contrast. However, the photos taken with the device being evaluated have a slightly blurry image on the left while the right part is still clear. This phenomenon may be caused by hardware and only appear on this device.
In general, Galaxy A40 camera is not really outstanding, on par with most competitors in the price range. The scene optimizer on this smartphone works not really effective when there is no difference between the normal photo and the shot when the Scene Optimizer is turned on.
With low light conditions, the noise of the photos is not much. The scene optimizer does not do much but also makes the image’s contrast a little higher.
Super wide-angle photos on Galaxy A40 only stop temporarily because the camera has only 5MP attached with no auto focus. Photos of the blur mode are also not perfect, but the results are still good.
Selfie photos are especially impressive with sharp details, harmonious colors.
Regarding video recording, Galaxy A40 is capable of recording videos with maximum quality of FullHD 1080p. The recorded video has a good color and less noise in detail.
Conclude
Overall, Samsung Galaxy A40 is a good, compact smartphone with beautiful design with Super AMOLED screen. However, the processor chip and camera part are not really impressive. In return, for users who are not too important in performance and taking photos, Galaxy A40 is also a reasonable choice for their designs.
