“Good and cheap” is always the top priority whenever an audiophile needs to buy headphones. Nowadays, it is not difficult to find a headset with a price range of about $20. But to combine all the factors such as cheap, beautiful, durable, and good sound quality, suitable for all music genres is not easy at all. Understanding this need for audiophiles, Tangzu Audio has launched Tangzu Wan’er SG – a low-cost headphone that meets all the above criteria.

Packaging and accessories

One point that surprises many people with the Tangzu Wan’er SG is that although the price is less than $20, the cover box of the headset has a very beautiful design. The entire outside of the cardboard box will be designed in ancient Chinese style.

Prominent on the front is a portrait of beautiful and seductive beauty. Interwoven with that is the brand logo, product name, and driver configuration. All detailed specifications of Wan’er SG and information about manufacturer Tangzu Audio will be available on the back.

Accessories included with Tangzu Wan’er SG will include:

  • 1 OFC 5N cable
  • 3 pairs of balanced ear tips size S/M/L
  • 3 pairs of vocal ear tips size S/M/L
  • 1 scarf with a beauty’s image printed on it

To create more highlights for the headset, Tangzu has equipped Wan’er SG with up to 6 pairs of silicone ear tips with many eye-catching colors. Note, that pairs of balanced ear tips will have smaller sound pipes than pairs of vocal ear tips.

Design and wearing experience

To be able to compete with other competitors in the same segment such as Zero, Hola, Chu, or BL-03, Tangzu has put on the housing of Wan’er SG a very beautiful, sophisticated, and equally luxurious design. The entire housing and faceplate are made of transparent polycarbonate plastic, allowing users to see the driver assembly as well as the internal structure of the headset.

The sound duct part will be made of metal and has an eye-catching copper color. The most notable highlight of Wan’er SG lies in the faceplate, which is quite structurally designed. The small wavy lines running together look very strange. But the most outstanding thing is the luxurious copper-gold “van vu” motifs. Arranged near the sound duct there will be 2 vents with the L/R symbol allowing users to easily know left/right ears.

Ergonomically designed with a semi-circular shape combined with soft ear tips, the Tangzu Wan’er SG brings a comfortable and pleasant wearing experience. Because the housing is made of plastic, the weight of the headset is quite light. Users can wear Wan’er SG on their ears and listen to music for many hours comfortably without getting stuffy in their ears.

The cable that comes with the Tangzu Wan’er SG is designed quite similarly to the cable of the KZ headphone models. Practical experience shows that the cable is quite soft, braided from 4 wire cores, so it has good sturdiness but is easy to tangle when used. The cable uses an L-shaped 3.5mm jack and a 0.78mm QDC 2-pin connector. The inner wire cores are made of 5N OFC copper, limiting signal loss during transmission.

Driver configuration and sound quality

Just by looking at the housing, users can easily realize that the Tangzu Wan’er SG is only equipped with one driver. This is a 10mm dynamic driver with a dual cavity design and uses a PET speaker membrane. The fact that this driver is equipped with a neodymium N52 magnet cluster capable of producing a large amount of magnetism will help increase linearity and improve detail and clarity for the sound bands. In terms of parameters, the headphones have a sensitivity of 107dB, a frequency response range of 20Hz – 20kHz, and operate at an impedance of 20 Ohm.

As soon as you put the Tangzu Wan’er SG on your ear, you will pay attention to the first bass range. The bass sounds very round, and natural and creates balance with the other two sound ranges. Both subbass and midbass have moderate volume so the bass sounds very powerful and the response speed is fast enough. The sub-bass extension is relatively deep and has good rumble. However, the texture of the bass range is a bit loose and not really well controlled.

The control is not good, causing the midbass to slightly affect the low mids. However, this is not a negative effect. The low mid part sounds warm and thick, followed by the vocal part becoming more powerful. The vocal part moves slightly forward, while the instrumental part will tend to be in the background and move back.

Tangzu Wan’er SG has a smooth treble sound, with just enough detail to create comfort, limiting the appearance of annoying sibs. If you find the treble of 7Hz Zero a bit harsh, then Wan’er’s treble will be more suitable for you.

Moving on to the technical part, Tangzu Wan’er SG has an average soundstage. Although the soundstage is not as wide as higher-end products, the soundstage staged by Wan’er still brings many interesting experiences. Good sound imaging along with the ability to separate instruments at a decent level helps listeners easily enjoy songs containing many types of instruments.

Compare

Vs 7Hz Salnotes Zero

Zero of 7Hz is a headset with bright sound quality with main highlights focused on the upper mid and treble range. This also means that Zero’s sound has better detail than Wan’er’s. However, at some high notes, the treble sound above Zero will cause harshness.

Zero with less bass will make the midbass sound a bit thin. With Tangzu Wan’er SG, having more bass will make the overall sound more vibrant. Although the volume is less, Zero’s bass range is cleaner and more tightly controlled. Wan’er’s bass has a somewhat loose texture and lacks a tight connection.

Technically, the Zero has a better soundstage, more detailed instrument separation, and better transitions. The microscopic details in the music are also exploited very well by Zero. Meanwhile, Wan’er has a natural-sounding timbre. Another small detail that users should pay attention to is that Wan’er provides a more comfortable wearing experience.

Vs Moondrop Chu

Although they have the same price range, Tangzu Wan’er SG has a better finish than Chu. The fact that Chu’s cables are not detachable like Wan’er SG will make upgrading the cables more difficult. Both have good ear fit, but Wan’er with its plastic housing will have lighter weight and limited shock when used with a PC.

Quite similar to Zero, Chu has quite a bit of bass and this makes Chu’s sound a bit thin (especially the midbass part). Wan’er has a richer, more powerful bass range and sounds more lively. But in terms of response speed and texture of the bass range, Chu does better than Wan’er. The upper mid and treble ranges on Moondrop Chu are enhanced more so the sound has better detail, and the female vocal sounds much sharper. But this means that the treble strip will be sib in some music passages. Not only stopping at resolution but also the technical elements are made better by Chu.

Vs Blon BL-03

Appearing on the market for quite a long time, BL-03 is still a great monument that every headset aims to surpass. BL-03 has a heavier V-shaped sound with a clearer and more booming midbass. Although the bass sounds vibrant, it is not well controlled so it dominates the low mid section. This unintentionally reduces the sharpness of the mid-range.

As for Tangzu Wan’er SG, the mid-range has better clarity, resulting in the vocals sounding more detailed and coherent. The treble strip on Wan’er also has better detail. Moving on to the technical part, although the BL-03 has a more open soundstage, in terms of the ability to exploit microscopic details, sound imaging, and the ability to separate instruments, Wan’er does better.

The biggest obstacle when using BL-03 is the level of fit. The strange housing combined with the rather short sound pipe makes the BL-03 difficult to create a good fit for the listener’s ears. Users will need to change tips when purchasing BL-03. Meanwhile, Wan’er with a better ergonomic shape only needs to be used with the tips stock to create an extremely effective ear fit.

Meeting all the criteria of “good sound, good mix, beautiful design, and comfortable to wear”, Tangzu Wan’er SG is a good choice if you are looking to buy a cheap headset.
