amazon Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G reviews
The Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G is a high-performance laptop that combines solid performance with an attractive aesthetic. It was a great choice for the office and college, but Acer has since released newer laptops in its line with 12th Gen processors and a sleek look.
The Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G is a capable laptop designed for anyone looking for a solid laptop for use at the office or university. This 15-inch laptop features a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 2700U CPU, AMD Radeon RX 540 graphics, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. As configured, it offers all the power you need in a productivity laptop.
The other iteration we’ve seen with the latest Core CPUs is the Acer Swift 3 (SF314-52G-55WQ) which adds a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics card on top of the base configuration. But other than that, the new Swift laptops are nothing special compared to their predecessors.
Certainly, the new systems offer a potential perfect balance between form and function. With an all-metal body, an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, and 10 hours of battery life. I was impressed with the previous version of Acer Swift 3, just hope the Swift 3 SF315-41G won’t let you down.
Design
The Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G is 14 inches larger than its predecessor, but both have all-aluminum bodies. Out of the box, it opens up to the display lid, keyboard surround, and base all made of metal, and it looks great. When you open it up, you’ll find a 15.6-inch, 1080p display, a standard island-style keyboard, brushed aluminum floors, and a fingerprint reader. The silver hinge looks solid – looks can be deceiving at times, but it does a good job of supporting the screen.
One more thing the Acer Swift 3 has to do with its 4.6-pound lightweight profile, making it 0.7 inches lighter and thinner than its competitors. The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 weighs 5.2 pounds and is 1.2 inches thick, while the Lenovo Flex 5 weighs just over 4.4 pounds and is 0.8 inches thick.
Monitor, Keyboard, and Trackpad
Less welcome is that the glass front on the screen will show you’re trying to boost brightness and colors out of place. For example, when watching a trailer for The Hunt, the trees in the rainforest had been left with strange colors and turned yellow, and it was difficult to see the forest predators at first. The screen covers an sRGB color gamut of 78 percent and 177 nits; 158% lower than the Aspire and 133% the Flex, but still delivers acceptable colors.
The island-style keyboard is well-placed and feels comfortable. With a stroke of just 1.2 mm, it’s not too flashy compared to its peers but is very sturdy thanks to the aluminum floor that prevents flex. It’s very possible to do more than 104 words per minute, which isn’t all that bad. Its trackpad measures 4.2 x 3.0 inches, which means it’s spacious and responds well to gestures, including a finger tap to open Cortana. The speakers are nice and loud enough to fill a small room, although the vocals aren’t exactly balanced.
Ports And Storage
Even with a slim profile, the Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G still manages to include almost all the ports you need. On the left side are the HDMI output, a USB Type-C port (which doesn’t support charging), two USB 3.0 ports (one with power-off charging), and a headphone jack. The right side has an SD card slot, a USB 2.0 port, and a Kensington lock slot.
It doesn’t have an Ethernet port, but you can connect wirelessly via dual-band 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. Others include a front-facing webcam and a fingerprint reader. For storage, the system has a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD), which sits in the same ball bearing as most systems in this category including the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54, but the Acer Swift 7 doubles the memory. Even though it comes with a 7th-generation CPU and a 13-inch screen.
Efficiency
The Acer Swift 3 is available in a few different configurations. Our review unit is the Acer Swift 3 SF315-41G, the only one in the series with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700U processor, 8GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD; while the rest use 7th-generation Intel processors. Many users will be happy with the Ryzen 7 version as the extra processing speed and power efficiency make the upgrade worthwhile.
In fact, for an average multitasking user, the Ryzen 7 2700U is more than enough. With it, you will be able to open more than 15 chrome tabs, with two 1080p videos streaming, and other background tasks without any signs of slowing down. Thanks to the PCIe SSD, the system benefits from faster copy speeds, which most of its predecessors can’t easily beat.
Graphics and Battery Life
You can play low-end games here, but the AMD Radeon RX 540 graphics card may not be enough for modern games at high settings, but you can still play at low settings. For example, the number you get on basic titles like Dirt 3 is 61 fps (fps), far below the 95 fps category average, even though even the laptop has Dedicated GPUs also never hit the baseline. The Asus TUF Dash 15 (2022) is something you can consider for mid-range gaming, as it has a dedicated GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card for low-end gaming with Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics card.
Acer claims that the Swift 3 can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life. If we can get away from the market slang, you get just over 7 hours of continuous web browsing over Wi-Fi. To be fair, it’s better than the mainstream average of 6 hours, but the Apple MacBook Air M2 offers over 18 hours of battery life on a single charge.
