amazon ASUS RT-N66U reviews
Design the theme
The RT-N66U – “Dark Knight” is sleekly designed, like the “Black Diamond” RT-N56U, with three detachable antennas attached to the back. The RTN66U is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and a WAN port.
Nearly all these ports are Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), reset, two USB 2.0 ports, switches and power port. This is almost the “standard” design of a router.
The front of the router is a series of LEDs that display the status of Internet connections, USB, and wireless networks.
Included with the RT-N66U is a CD containing simple installation setup software for general users. Inteligent users can skip the CD and set up using the computer’s browser to connect via 192.186.1.1 address.
ASUS has improved the RT-N66U management interface to become more user-friendly and easy to use. The Web interface of the RT-N66U is quite logical and simple. There are three main sections included: The top section is the installation instructions mentioned above, the middle is for general items, and the bottom is the Advanced Settings.
The RTN66U Admin Interface provides a network diagram for viewing currently connected devices, including those connected to the router via USB. End users interact with devices with one click. For example, it is possible to quickly block a device using your Wi-Fi or set up a network storage feature of an external hard drive. Other convenient features include Parental Control, bandwidth management, and management of the router’s USB ports.
Function
The “N900” here means that both bands (5GHz and 2.4GHz) can transfer data up to 450Mbps, the fastest speed of standard N. However, to optimize this speed, Wi-Fi Your terminal also supports the 450Mbps standard (also known as the 3×3 standard). But this is only a theory, the device as well as the bandwidth can not reach this number now.
To make sure that the router is compatible, you need to change the router’s wireless network settings with Automatic Methods (TKIP) and Encryption (AES). Users will need to use the web interface to have access to all the features of the router.
Some shortcomings of the RT-U66U is that it does not support HTTPS secure access protocol – a feature that is essential when users want remote access. The device has no IP filter, limiting users to control access to inappropriate websites and addresses.
The DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) feature is a standard for transferring data in local area network but not easy to operate. This is a rather disappointing point especially for users with entertainment needs.

New supported features include: IPv6 with Native, Native w / DHCP, 6to4 Tunnel, 6in4 Tunnel and Tunnel 6rd. Firewall with a series of filters such as URL filter, keyword filter, …
In addition to supporting protocols such as FTPs, SAMBA, and UPnP AV, users can download USB mass storage devices without having to turn on their computers.
Users can use USB 3G plugged into the RT-N66U for back up Internet access. However, consider whether your USB device is supported by Asus.
The QoS (Quality of Service) feature automatically manages bandwidth that is misleading to the user. This feature only joins the default online gaming rules and other tasks with the highest priority without being affected by P2P applications.
One feature introduced by the RT-N66U is Ai Radar – which automatically increases the strength of Wi-Fi waves to devices connected via the amplifier, enhancing connectivity with wireless devices.
Efficiency
You can set the RT-N66U to work in router mode, bridge, repeater, MAC address filtering, WPA configuration, extended coverage area.
Wi-Fi 802.11n test, Wi-Fi WPS security, TOTOLINK N300UA USB adapter and Gigabyte GC-WB300D Wi-Fi network adapter meet N connectivity standards, RT-N66U router for connection speed Wi-Fi is stable at 2m and 8m. The quality difference between the devices is negligible.
The RT-N66U on the 5GHz band and USB receiver or network card has shown pretty impressive numbers of 130Mbps and 98Mbps for near and far distances respectively.
When moving down to the 2.4MHz band, the results are really good. In addition, the RT-N66U broadcasts at a very long range on the bands. Within 30m, the signal is quite stable.
