Eufy’s RoboVac 30C robot vacuum is a great improvement over the original, offering app and voice control for just $30 more.

We like the Eufy RoboVac 30$ 269.99, even if it’s as basic as a robot vacuum. However, the newer RoboVac 30C adds to the deal with mobile app control and voice assistant compatibility for just $30 more. If you decide between the two, the $299.99 RoboVac 30C is the model worth buying. However, for $70 less, the Ecovacs Deebot N79S offers the same features and functionality as the 30C.

Design

The RoboVac 30C looks virtually identical to the RoboVac 30. At 12.8 inches in diameter and 2.9 inches in height, its slim and compact construction makes it ideal for low-light furniture. The top is made of tempered glass; a subtle bronze design runs across the surface and adds pops of color to the black frame.

The start/stop button on the top of the vacuum will flash orange when charging, glow blue when charged, and solid orange when the battery is low. If there is an error or the vacuum is stuck, it will flash red. Above this button, the Wi-Fi status light slowly flashes blue when the device is waiting to connect, briefly flashes blue when connecting to your router, and glows blue identical when connected.

The front bumper houses the infrared sensor of the vacuum cleaner. At the opposite end, you’ll find the 0.6-liter trash can and the release button. The bottom contains two main grooves, a rotating wheel, the main roller brush, dual rotating brush, brush guard, charging contact, anti-drop sensor and lobby sensor, main power switch, and battery compartment.

The RoboVac 30C comes with a charging dock and remote control. You can use the remote control to return the vacuum to the charging base, adjust the suction power, start or stop cleaning, control navigation, and start different cleaning modes.

The box also includes two AAA batteries for the remote, a power adapter, two extra brushes, a cable tie, adhesive tape, an additional filter, an additional foam filter, two rolls of strips limit where each strip measures 6.6 feet long.

Setup, apps, and voice control

Since the RoboVac 30C comes with a remote, an app is not needed to control it, but it does provide access to features like scheduling and voice control. To get started:

1. Download the EufyHome app (available for Android and iOS) and turn on the main power switch on the bottom of the vacuum.
2. In the app, create a user account and tap the plus sign in the top right corner to add RoboVac to your profile.
3. Follow the instructions to connect the vacuum to your home Wi-Fi network.

The vacuum’s battery life (in percent) and status (charging, cleaning, standby) are at the top of the app’s home screen. The start/stop button, along with a steering wheel, is in the center. While convenient, the app controls don’t navigate the vacuum as smoothly as the physical remote. In testing, the 30C moved when controlled with a remote instead of a phone.

Tap the Mode button for different cleaning modes, including Auto, Spot, Edge, and Fast. In Auto and Fast, you can also switch between different suction strengths such as Standard, Maximum, and BoostIQ. When BoostIQ is on, the vacuum will automatically increase suction power on thicker carpets or sense a harder to clean clutter than usual.

The Schedule button allows you to program the vacuum to clean at a specific date and time automatically, but only once per day. The Home button returns the vacuum to the charging dock, and the Find button beeps to help you find the vacuum’s location in your home.

While the app is easy to use, the notifications are sometimes confusing and inconsistent. No matter where or how the vacuum got stuck during testing, I always get the same message that combines multiple warnings in one: its drop sensor is dirty, and it’s hanging from a ledge or trapped. Sometimes I don’t get any notifications and realize it’s stuck because it starts beeping.

As mentioned, the RoboVac 30C is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. After connecting the device to the assistant of your choice, you can use your voice to start or stop vacuuming, return the device to the dock, and more.

Performance

The RoboVac 30C moves well around and under furniture. In testing, it moved quickly around chairs, tables, and desks. Thanks to the low height of the vacuum, it can also pick up dust particles below the vents. I made sure to tie the cord away from any areas where wires and computer chargers can’t move off the floor using boundary strips. Every time 30C reaches a marked point, it immediately recognizes it as a no-go zone and returns to clean another area.

30C has strong suction, easily removes dirt and hair on both tiles and carpets. It even smoked a few staples with no problem. While Standard mode works well on hardwood and tile, I recommend BoostIQ if most of your floor is carpet. 30C is very quiet in all three modes; it’s hard to hear it work unless it works for you.

I tested how well it sucks up different materials on carpets and wood using Standard suction. It inhales most of the mess with larger items like Cap’n Crunch cereal but leaves a piece or two on both carpet and tile. Cat poop and sand need to go through a few times to clean the carpet and leave some debris behind fully. It works better on tile, fully absorbing both materials. Unfortunately, the double brush scattered cat poop litter all over the floor and created an even bigger mess.

30C lasted about 90 minutes in the test before the battery ran low (BoostIQ mode reduces this to about 50 minutes). Meanwhile, the N79S lasted a bit longer, at about 100 minutes.

Conclusion

The $299.99 Eufy RoboVac 30C is a great upgrade over the original. Not only is it quiet, compact, and powerful, app control and voice assistant compatibility are welcome additions for just $30 more.
