SOME QUICK FEELINGS ABOUT LEGION SLIM 7
The device is made from aluminum and magnesium alloy, the design is similar to the Legion 5 and Legion 7 2020 but is made thinner only 1.79cm, and is quite light with a weight of 1.86kg.
In addition, the point that easily distinguishes Slim 7 from Legion 5 and 7 is the rear heat sink cluster and the heatsink slots on the 2 sides.
The hinge frame is made smaller than on Legion 5 and Legion 7, but still very solid, easy to open the lid with one hand, and can be opened at an angle of 180 degrees.
The full-size keyboard has a per-key RGB LED background (customizable support via Corsair iCue), the touchpad is quite large and the surface is covered with glass. Comfortable typing feeling, relative key travel, good bounce, fast typing, easy typing. There is a 1-touch fingerprint sensor on the power button of the device.
15.6-inch screen, 16:9 aspect ratio, IPS panel, Full HD resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, with Webcam and physical switch to cover it when not in use, very thin screen edges.
Rumored that the official version will have 2 screen options: 2K QHD 165Hz 100% sRGB 300 nits G-Sync, and 4K 60Hz 100% Adobe RGB 500 or 600 nits (premium options for users doing creative work, graphic design, photo, and video editing, etc).
It is almost certain that the Legion Slim 7 will be equipped by Lenovo with a Vapor Chamber cooling system, an instant cooling solution when the machine temperature rises to a high level for thin and light laptops with high performance, there will still be 2 large fans and 3 or 4 heatsink copper pipes.
In addition, likely, liquid metal cooling cream will also be applied to this new laptop model.
Machine for good upgradeability: 2 Ram slots and 2 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD slots.
Ports are quite complete: SD card reader, 2 USB-A 3.2 gen 2 ports, 2 USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support (with Intel chip configuration), and headphone jack with 3.5mm mic.
CONFIGURATION OF LEGION SLIM 7 (Demo version)
CPU: Intel Core i9-10980HK
Ram: 8GB DDR4 2933 MHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q
SSD: 1TB (M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x 4)
There are currently no official specifications and configurations, but many rumors in addition to Intel chips will have more AMD Ryzen 7-5800HS or Ryzen 9-5900H / 5900HS chips with 45W TDP, combined with RTX 3060 Max-Q or 3070 Max-Q.
If true to these rumors, it can be seen that despite being a thinner, lighter, highly portable version of the Legion 5 and 7, the equipped configuration of the Legion Slim 7 is still very powerful, with high quality, and good finishing, but there will still be a slight trade-off in terms of ports and cooling system.
In addition, Legion Slim 7 in my opinion will no longer be just a pure gaming laptop, but will also be a worthy choice for a group of customers who are content creators, editors, graphic design and architecture, etc. with a memory card reader and optional high quality 4K 100% Adobe RGB display.
BENCHMARK PERFORMANCE (Demo version)
The following are the performance scores of the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 (i9-10980HK and RTX 2060 Max-Q) through some benchmark tests of CPU, GPU, SSD drive speed, etc in High-Performance mode. There is also a comparison with laptop models with similar equipment configurations for your reference.
BATTLE GAMES
Because this is a demo, it has little effect on the performance score of the Legion Slim 7, as well as the ability of the machine to fight today’s heavy AAA games on high graphics settings. So the scores recorded are for reference only, here are the average FPS scores when playing Legion Slim 7 games:
Added Legion Slim 7 FPS on Far Cry New Dawn on Ultra settings
Tested through the in-game benchmark feature, the highest FPS: is 40 FPS, average: is 36 FPS
In realistic gaming, the highest FPS: is 48 FPS, average: is 35 FPS
RADIATORS
Because the loan period is quite short, I did not have time to test the operation of the cooling system inside the Lenovo Legion Slim 7, you can temporarily see the temperature of the machine through some pictures recorded during the game and test machine performance.
After about 2 hours of testing the machine and playing games, the air-conditioned room temperature was 27 degrees Celsius, the machine was placed directly on the table, operating in High-Performance mode, without adding a heat sink or exhaust fan, I recorded the temperature. CPU’s peak is only about 75 degrees Celsius, sometimes it goes up to nearly 80 degrees Celsius. GPU almost does not exceed 70 degrees Celsius, very cool!
Of course, in fact when touching the lid, touching some areas on the frame and keyboard, …. Everyone will have different feelings: some people will find it very hot, some people will find it hot and medium, and like me, it will be cool.
The numbers showing the temperature are also a basis for us to somewhat evaluate the efficiency of the cooling system on the Legion Slim 7 even though this is just a demo.
There is one point that is not necessarily a disadvantage, but maybe some of you will not like it very much, which is the heat dissipation slot on the right side of the machine when the machine is operating at high intensity, the hot air exhaust fan will cause a little discomfort to the mouse handle.
END
Just now are my experiences and quick reviews of the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 laptop (demo with Intel i9-10980Hk and RTX 2060 Max-Q configuration).
This is a laptop product that is not flashy or colorful, with the same gaming style as the Legion 5 and 7, offering a powerful configuration inside a slim and very light body.
More screen options for optimal support for both gamers and users who specialize in creativity, design, and graphics.
