amazon LG 27MP59G-P reviews
Popular design, thick border
The first and most visible trade-off on the LG 27MP59G-P is the design. Due to the price “nearly lowest on the market”, the 27-inch model from LG still uses quite thick borders and does not have a click detail on the edges to attract the attention of customers. The bottom edge of the screen is the thickest; This is also the part chosen to place the LG logo.
To make this design less boring, the V stand is dotted with a red decorative line on the back. Compared to the LG models with ultra-thin borders or a silver stand, it is true that 27MP59G-P still cannot match the design level.
In return, the “body” of 27MP59G-P is quite thin (especially the upper part). The V-shaped stand feels solid, helping the screen not to shake even in FPS or MOBA games. However, because the monitor does not support the VESA standard, it is also difficult for users to replace with other stand options for putting the product on the wall. In general, according to its price, 27MP59G-P is more suitable for “normal” PC than a “battle station” PC to attract the attention of people around.
Connected with modest features
Compared to the higher screen, 27MP59G-P has a relatively small number of ports, including one HDMI 1.4 port and one DisplayPort 1.2 port. Instead of providing a second HDMI port, LG made the rather confusing decision to still use the VGA D-Sub port on 27MP59G-P.
This cheap 27-inch model also does not come with a speaker, instead of providing a 3.5mm port on the back, to play audio signals received via HDMI or DisplayPort. For those who do not place the case on the table, this can be considered a very valuable addition, allowing users to shorten the distance to the speaker and headphones.
To make 27MP59G-P more attractive to gamers, LG has provided quite a lot of auxiliary features such as reducing motion blur 1ms, Dynamic Action Sync (DAS, reducing latency) or Black Stabilizer (increasing brightness at dark areas). In our testing, Black Stabilizer was not so useful because “heavy” games such as Battlefield or Call of Duty would not put players in dark scenes, difficult to distinguish between opponents and scenes. And the 1ms dimming and DAS features are hard to perceive in reality, although this low latency certainly will “displease” many gamers when playing games at the professional/ semi-specialized level.
LG 27MP59G-P has a 75Hz refresh speed, supports AMD FreeSync anti-tear technology. Although 144Hz monitors have become more popular, there are still many popular gamers who are “living together” with the traditional 60Hz refresh speed. Having a 75Hz refresh speed helps LG 27MP59G-P maintain its low price, while still increasing the smoothness compared to the 60Hz screen.
LG 27MP59G-P uses a joystick-like control mechanism, integrated with the power button located at the bottom edge, right at the logo position. You can use this button to navigate menus, switch display modes, customize colors, or toggle auxiliary features. In our opinion, this type of control design helps bring a much more intuitive experience than the button mechanism that many other companies are still using on the affordable screen.
Colors, good contrast but not high definition
LG has long promoted the technology of IPS, and 27MP59G-P is also equipped with this panel. According to official information from LG, 27MP59G-P is capable of displaying 99% of the sRGB color range, viewing angle of 178/178 degrees and brightness of 250 cd/ m2.
What do these numbers mean during use? With the “Battlefront 2” game in the context of the Star Wars world, 27MP59G-P for vivid frames in maps with many brilliant details such as Felucia or Naboo. With the battle map in space (Starfighter Assault), the advantage of contrast is even more evident through the effects of fire, lights on the black sky.
In general, the color quality of 27MP59G-P proved to be completely superior to the screen models using TN or VA, which even can be considered quite similar to the Ultrawide models that this company has launched before. This is also an experience that users can think of when owning an IPS screen, a technology that has always been associated with true color.
Compared to the regular 23-inch screen, the display area of 27MP59G-P is up to 38% larger, and at normal usage distances, this difference is easy to be perceived. With FPS games (first-person shooter) or RPG (role-playing game), the big screen increases the feeling of overwhelming in the game. With MOBA or strategy games, the larger display area allows gamers to zoom out to track a larger field of view while still recognizing the units on the map.
However, a large screen experience at a low price will not be a perfect experience. The most obvious weakness of the LG screen lies in the resolution: despite its large size, 27MP59G-P only stops at Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels. At normal usage distances (users are about 50 cm from the screen), we were still able to clearly see pixel “particles” on the dark areas of the frame. Even when setting the highest configuration level, images from 27MP59G-P still cannot be considered sharp, especially when focusing on areas with lots of surface textures (such as character armor).
Moving from games to movies, 27MP59G-P still responds well to 1080p content. Weakness in resolution will be offset by the advantage of brightness and color quality. Unfortunately, with Full HD content design and production tasks, there is a shortage, even with multitasking tasks (code, data processing), 27MP59G-P cannot serve as good as the Ultrawide or QHD screens.
Summary
LG 27MP59G-P is one of the most accessible 27-inch monitors available today. Equipped with an IPS panel from a well-known manufacturer, 27MP59G-P delivers truly immersive gaming and movie experiences with impressive colors and compelling brightness. However, for maximum discount, 27MP59G-P also has almost no other advantages: Resolution only stops at Full HD, few ports (1 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort, 1 D-Sub) and also no speakers.
Therefore, 27MP59G-P is only best suited for gamers who place heavy factors on display size first. With just enough money to buy a 23-inch screen, they were able to get a 27-inch “affordable” experience from LG.
