amazon Martha Is Dead reviews
Developed by LKA and published by Wired Production, Martha is Dead is a first-person horror adventure game. The game was released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S.
In recent times, Martha Is Dead has somewhat “made storm” in the international gaming community.
Not because the game features veteran actor Udo Kier, or because the game’s protagonist is the daughter of a Nazi general.
Martha Is Dead is famous, that’s because the PlayStation version of the game will be masked with some creepy.
Martha Is Dead a memorable horror experience? Or is it just a game that uses gore and organs to make players feel uncomfortable? Biareview will learn that with you through the following review.
In the Italian countryside of Tuscany, there are twin sisters Giulia and Martha, the daughters of the German general, Elich. K.
Giulia and Martha have the same physical appearance, the difference between the two is that Martha likes to read and is deaf, while Giulia likes photography.
One day, while taking pictures on the shore of a lake near her home, Giulia found a drowned body in the water. Pulling the body up, Giulia did not expect it to be her twin.
Just then, Giulia’s father and mother ran up, and they mistook Giulia for Martha. And Giulia, for some reason, doesn’t deny this either.
This is where the game begins, as we play as Giulia and investigate the mystery surrounding Martha’s death.
At the beginning of the game, the writer quite liked the story of the game, as well as the mystery it built up.
Unfortunately, that feeling has completely disappeared in the final chapters, when the game deliberately goes against what many people are probably predicting to lead to a different ending, also known as the “plot twist”.
This “plot twist” would be nice if its appearance was hinted at in the plot. But no, Martha Is Dead’s “Plot twist”… slaps the player in the face unexpectedly, and it completely ignores the evidence the player has found earlier while investigating the mystery of Martha’s death.
Not only that, when leading to this “plot twist”, Giulia had an extremely illogical action, contrary to what the game was shaped before.
This act – the writer will not tell to keep the readers surprised – is forced into the story just so that the “plot twist” can exist.
In addition, throughout the game, Giulia will also have nightmares and appear to be haunted by a disgusting-looking ghost.
But why does the ghost haunt her, why does she have those nightmares? The game has no explanation. It’s as if the existence of these scenes is so that LKA can promote that their game has gory, horror images.
Martha Is Dead gives players a lot of choices, but most of them are meaningless.
For example, after Martha died and Giulia had to pretend to be her twin, the first choice the game gave us was… to wear someone’s clothes.
You can wear Martha’s clothes, to continue playing the deceased sister, or wear your clothes as Giulia. If you choose Giulia’s clothes, Giulia will say that her mother doesn’t like the two of them swapping clothes.
Picked for fun, that’s because… there’s no one at home to react to.
Except for certain moments, the house we are in is empty, meaning that no matter what the player chooses, there is no response from the game.
Then the game gives us the task of reading the newspaper. This is Martha’s routine and it exists to make sure people around don’t recognize who is Giulia.
It doesn’t matter if you read the newspaper or not, because the house is empty, and no one is present to react to the player’s decision.
Well, if you try to role-play Martha as the game suggests, it doesn’t make any sense. Because at a certain stage, Giulia’s actions will be revealed (for a rather silly reason).
After being exposed, the mission section of the game still reminds us to read the newspaper every day, to pretend to be Martha. Fake with whom? The writer doesn’t know, and maybe the development team doesn’t either.
Throughout the game, there will be times when Giulia has nightmares where she runs into the woods and has to put words into a sentence by choosing which direction to go left or right.
The words that the game gives us are enough to make sentences with different meanings, and the writer wished that we could steer the story in many directions (at least two) by choosing sentences ourselves that I want.
Unfortunately, another pointless choice, because if you choose the wrong word the game wants, the sentence will be deleted and you have to choose from the beginning.
If the choices the game makes for players lead to a different direction of the story, Martha Is Dead will be a much better experience.
Besides the silly story and pointless choices, Martha Is Dead has many technical minus points.
First of all, the game is poorly optimized (at least on PC). Although my computer configuration is more than the requirements are set forth, the game continuously drops frames every time I turn over and back.
The writer has used the auto-configuration mechanism depending on the machine provided by the game, but everything has not changed.
Second, that’s exactly how LKA designed the mission.
Some tasks, so-called main quests, when performed will cause the time to pass. Some other quests, which can be called side quests, when executed will not affect the progress of the timeline.
The problem here is that the game does not specifically identify which one is main and which one is secondary, leading to the writer skipping some side quests due to missing the main one.
In addition, some quest requirements don’t appear on the map at all, leading to a waste of time rummaging around to continue the story.
Third, it is the movement mechanism of the game. Martha Is Dead gave us a bicycle to facilitate transportation, but after the first use, I never touched it.
The reason is due to the insensitive, insensitive control mechanism, combined with the fact that the map is designed mainly on a narrow road for walking, not to mention the speed of the bike is not fast.
The bike will be more efficient if it exists in the form of a quick travel mechanism.
