After two very successful Sabbat E12 and X12 models following the very successful E12 Ultra and X12 Ultra, Sabbat has launched its next TWS model. Will the latest Sabbat E16 model still inherit the same strengths as the E12, E12 Ultra that used to sell well on the TWS headset market for a while? PACKING AND ACCESSORIES

The familiar boxed style with a square black paper box with a pair of headphones printed on the front. We have Sabbat E16 tucked away in shock-absorbing foam underneath the box’s lid, and below is a carrying case cum charging box.

The included accessories are not too different, with three pairs of silicone ear tips and three pairs of foam ear tips. A faux leather pouch with the Sabbat logo printed on it and a USB-C charging cord. That is probably more than enough for us to experience and use Sabbat E16 every day in terms of accessories.

DESIGN AND FINISHING

Not to mention how the sound quality of the E16 will change, but the new design of the E16 is completely impressive. With housing designed in the style of modern IEMs headphones, it feels very comfortable to wear. With the accompanying ear tips, the E16 feels very easy to wear and holds the ear well.

The color that is Sabbat’s strong point is still very well maintained on this E16 series. Sabbat E16 will be available in 4 colors: Aurora, Neon, Galaxy, and Mystic. The entire headset is covered with eye-catching metallic paint color and on the faceplate has the Sabbat logo.

It is not known if Sabbat will launch another series of matte colors in the future for those who do not like this metallic shade. Still, currently, with the existing colors of E16, it is really beautiful and luxurious.

The charging case has not changed much with previous models. The color of the charging case will also be similar to the color on the headset, creating great synchronization. The inside of the charging box is still scratched black plastic with an LED indicating the charging status of the box.

Around the box, there is no logo or symbol printed; only on the bottom, we have the symbol of wireless charging, and the back has a USB-C charging port.

A very good point that Sabbat has kept through the generations of TWS headphones is the mechanical control button. The feeling of pressing the mechanical button on the Sabbat E16 ear is still very good; the button has a good bounce, sensitive press. Thanks to that, we will be less likely to accidentally press the button while adjusting the headset, which is very common in TWS ears with touch buttons. In addition, we do not need an additional application to control the E16 ear when all functions can be controlled with just the button on the headset.

Overall, both the headset and the charging case are lightweight, comfortable to wear, and not tiring, and the charging case can be easily carried at any time. The finishing of E16 has improved a lot when no excess details on both the ears and the charging case.

CONNECTION AND CONTROL

Thanks to being equipped with Qualcomm QCC 3040 processor chip and Bluetooth 5.2 standard, the connection process and the processing ability of Sabbat E16 have been improved quite a lot compared to the previous life; there is no longer loss of connection between the two parties. The ear and the signal transmitted from the source to the ear are more stable. Sabbat E16 now supports apt-X and AAC codecs to enjoy the highest sound quality via Bluetooth regardless of using Android or iOS devices. In addition, we can activate Game Mode (Low Latency Mode) to experience today’s mobile games more smoothly. In fact, with Game Mode on Sabbat E16, my PUBG Mobile game experience has improved quite a bit, with the delay on the headset being reduced a lot.

In addition, thanks to Bluetooth 5.2, using each headset is now very easy. If you’ve ever owned the old TWS E12 or X12 headphones, you will certainly not be able to forget the arduous process of reconnecting the two headphones when the connection between the two is lost. It is too simple when just taking out one headset; the other ear will immediately reconnect to continue the experience.

With still keeping the mechanical control button on the E16 headset, perhaps depending on different personal preferences, it may be a weakness or strength of the E16. As for me, the feeling of pressing the mechanical button is still something more accurate and certain than the touch. With the control button of the E16, we can experience all the headset features with just the control button without going through any other applications.

Battery life is also quite good on Sabbat E16, with 6 hours of use on a single charge and the charging box gives us three more full charges for a total use time of up to 24 hours. Compared to the old versions, we will get 8 hours of continuous use and the total usage time is up to 30 hours; those who have used the previous versions of Sabbat will probably have to pay attention to upgrade to E16.

But for me, this point is not too big a minus point when the technologies that the E16 carries on me are quite energy-consuming, and the E16 still ensures a pretty good duration of use. SOUND QUALITY ASSESSMENT

One of the most valuable upgrades of Sabbat E16 compared to its predecessors is the sound quality. Sabbat designed a 10mm Balanced Membrane driver with a 10mm driver as the woofer and a 6mm driver as the tweeter.

So what is a Balanced membrane driver?

Instead of a separate BA + Dynamic hybrid driver, Sabbat combines the two and is located on a 10mm driver to take advantage of the dynamic driver’s bass range and the very good high treble range of the BA drivers to creating a sound with an extremely wide frequency response as well as extremely low distortion. That is not too new technology when it has appeared on popular IEMs like Soranik BMT or Noble M3, but perhaps Sabbat E16 is one of the first TWS headphones to own a balanced membrane driver.

Owning a balanced membrane driver is also one of the reasons why Sabbat E16 is certified as a Hi-res Audio.

The sound quality of Sabbat E16, in general, will be in the direction of balanced – light. Slightly opposite to the old versions when E12 is a completely V-shape version with extremely good bass with a lot of volumes and deep down.

Bass

The bass range on the E16 is more compact, not too much, but still just enough. Body bass is still full and detailed well. Bass hits very clearly, is not chiseled, feels extremely comfortable listening continuously for a long time, and does not encroach on the mid.

Mid

The mid-range on the E16 is more neutral; the vocals are natural, not too colorful. Overall, the vocal does not sound too electronic, nor is it squeezed too much; the detail is just enough. The high-mid has a little bit of pressure, creating a feeling that instruments such as violin or electric guitar perform very well, but the thin and high voice will sometimes be a little sib with some female singers.

Treble

Where the E16 shines the most when the balanced membrane driver performs so well. Treble is high, detailed, and sharp. Some people who are not familiar with the bright style may be a bit harsh when first listening to E16, but the E16 treble is quite good for me. Thanks to that, the details in the treble part are shown smoothly.

Soundstage

The soundstage of the E16 is quite good, not too narrow in the front but slightly wide on the shoulders. The width shows well but not much in terms of depth and height. The separation and instrument layering of the E16 is also acceptable, without too many instruments sticking to it.

Overall, the E16 delivers quite an excellent sound quality, a step away from the average sound quality of the low-cost TWS segment and closer to the more mid-range IEMs.

VOICE QUALITY

With Qualcomm CVC 8.1 chip equipped to improve conversation quality with two microphones on each ear, the conversation quality of E16 is also improved a lot.

In a closed or quiet room environment, the noise filter and the microphone on the Sabbat E16 work very well, but due to the housing design in the style of IEMs, the microphone on the E16 is quite far from our mouth when talking. That will be annoying when we talk in a noisier area like an office or a coffee bar. At this point, the E16 only offers the same conversational capabilities as the TWS headset models of the same price range.
